Meet Denver, a man raised under plantation-style slavery in Louisiana in the 1960s, a man who escaped, hopping a train to wander, homeless, for eighteen years on the streets of Dallas, Texas. No longer a slave, Denver s life was still hopeless-until God moved. First came a godly woman who prayed, listened, and obeyed. And then came her husband, Ron, an international arts dealer at home in a world of Armani-suited millionaires. And then they all came together. But slavery takes many forms. Deborah discovers that she has cancer. In the face of possible death, she charges her husband to rescue Denver. Who will be saved, and who will be lost? What is the future for these unlikely three? What is God doing? Same Kind of Different As Me is the emotional tale of their story: a telling of pain and laughter, doubt and tears, dug out between the bondages of this earth and the free possibility of heaven. No reader or listener will ever forget it.

#Don t catch and release this book too soon! (2008-11-20) Great book chosen/read for a book club (of all white women) I read this over a 4-day holiday and it brought me to tears a few times. It s emotional and historical, modern and joyful. I didn t feel the references to religion were so overt that someone like me (a non-practicing Catholic) was inundated to feel a certain way. I can relate to some of the books spiritual moments (from my own life) and it s interesting to see how they re written. My personal take away is a better understanding of the homeless persona, how my vo...
#Life Changing Story (2008-11-17) I could not put this book down once I got into it. It has enabled me to understand the true nature of God and I have become involved in a Church that has many stories that echo the story of Ron, Deborah, and Denver.
#Inspiring (2008-11-08) Wow. This was a powerful story on so many levels. It challenged me in my perceptions of people. It also convicted me about catch and release friendships. In ministry it is easy to view relationships as a means to share the gospel rather than a lifelong committment to a person. I don t think this is always wrong per-say, you can t be all things to everyone, but maybe God wants to do something more in both my life and the life of someone else. It is a powerful idea to start of thinking of truly loving and learning to trust to the point of becoming famil...
#Get out the tissues! (2008-11-02) Ron s wife, Debbie Hall was a woman called of God to step outside the boundaries of $1000 per plate charity dinners and high society to take follow in Christ s steps and take His love to the least of these. Devoting herself to working with the homeless community of Forth Worth, Texas, she related to those she met as individuals and people with a purpose, loving them for who they were. This flowing, authentic love was much more difficult for her husband Ron Hall to grasp hold of. Coerced into joining his wife s ministering efforts, his initial attemp...
#Powerful story of friendship and faith (2008-10-23) Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore is a different kind of love story. Two men, who couldn t be more different, are brought together by their love for one woman who has a powerful love for God. Ron Hall is a successful art dealer in Dallas, Texas when his wife, Deborah, hears a message from God to serve the homeless in a dilapidated shelter. He goes along with his wife, only for love of her. But when Deborah tells him that she has seen a vision of a man who will change the city with his wisdom, and that the m...

#if you get past the beginning its really helpful!! (2008-11-22) the beginning was kinda slow, but once you get passsed it, it had really helpful and pertinent information in a much easier format.
#You might like these books (2008-11-21) If you are a deep material reader then you will really enjoy Rumi & Self Psychology (Psychology of Tranquility) and Sara s Therapy: A Way to Purity. These books are unique, easy to read, full of information, and just amazing, and you can not put them down.
#book is perfect for anyone with boundry issues and even not (2008-10-21) for those like me who think God left it up to me to do his work and for others who just don t know how to keep someone out of their space, this book is perfect. it was a life changer for me. now i just remind myself boundries and know that God didn t leave me in charge down here, that he is in charge and working on al situations. it let me know that i am interfering with his work. i can now sleep at night knowing that he is in charge and that it s not up to me to fix up everyones lives
#Clearly Defined (2008-10-16) Written by psychologists and incorporating a Biblical perspective, Cloud and Townsend offer anecdotal, clinical and spiritual evidence as they explain the need for limits in our lives. Individual chapters address specific relational areas, e. g. family, marriage, children, workplace. The language and terminology are easy to understand, and the overall tone is encouraging.
#Must Read- Boundries (2008-10-13) This is a wonderful book. I am doing the study along with the workbook. Wow! Have I learned a lot about what my Boundries are. I would recommend this book!

#Life Purpose Made Simple Yet Profound (2008-11-12) Review of The Purpose Driven Life: What On Earth Am I Here For? by Rick WarrenI chose to review this book because I couldn t resist a best seller. The Purpose Driven Life has sold over 20 million copies. The book has won the Book of the Year Award from the Evangelical Christian Publisher Association 2 years in a row. The back book jacket calls the book A GROUNDBREAKING MANIFESTO ON THE MEANING OF LIFE. Given the popularity of this best seller, I had to see what Warren wrote to demand the attention of readers who buy multiple copi...
#A MUST READ!!! VERY SPIRITUAL & MOTIVATING!!! (2008-10-07) I must say that I was not a very spiritual person until now. I have gone to several churches over many of my 41 years and not one has delivered the message to me that this book has. This book has saved my relationship and given me a completely different perspective on life. I am so interested in learning more about God and have plans to read the entire Bible within the next year. I have already purchased this book for a close friend and my brother. I also plan on sending this book to my children. I urge you to visi...
#Best lie-changing book ever! (2008-10-06) I ve gone through a rough patch in my life just a few months ago and at one point I was considered suicidal. It was a struggle to just get through the days. I ve read The Road Less Traveled which helped greatly. But then I read The Purpose Driven Life and it changed my life completely. I have a whole new outlook on life now. This is a book that I will read over and over. It helps you to accept things in your life and helps you to understand life in general and focus on God. I HIGHLY recommend this book for ANYONE going through a r...
#Wonderful (2008-10-02) Thsi book is really wonderful to read, it really makes you focus on what should be most important in your life. We were created for a reason and we should be living our life for the purpose we were put on earth for, not just for ourselves. In general be a fun-loving, caring, down to earth, spiritual person, and always smile.
#Purpose Driven Life (2008-09-29) This book was suggested to me by a dear friend and I am so glad I bought it. It is an awesome book. I ve enjoyed every page I ve read so far. It not only explains what God wants you to do, it helps you believe. I couldn t have asked for a better book to read. It has been a very spiritual journey.

From the bestselling author of The Know-It-All comes a fascinating and timely exploration of religion and the Bible. Raised in a secular family but increasingly interested in the relevance of faith in our modern world, A.J. Jacobs decides to dive in headfirst and attempt to obey the Bible as literally as possible for one full year. He vows to follow the Ten Commandments. To be fruitful and multiply. To love his neighbor. But also to obey the hundreds of less publicized rules: to avoid wearing clothes made of mixed fibers, to play a ten-string harp, to stone adulterers. The resulting spiritual journey is at once funny and profound, reverent and irreverent, personal and universal and will make you see history s most influential book with new eyes. Jacobs s quest transforms his life even more radically than the year spent reading the entire Encyclopedia Britannica for The Know-It-All. His beard grows so unruly that he is regularly mistaken for a member of ZZ Top. He immerses himself in pr...

#Great Book! Funny read! (2008-11-22) I ve just finished reading A. J. Jacob s The Year of Living Biblically and it was hilarious. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone I know. Very funny. (and hi Mr. Jacob s dad :) )
#Just o.k. (2008-11-19) I downloaded a sample of this book on to my kindle and found myself laughing out loud the first couple chapters. So, I went ahead and bought the book. The problem was it just wasn t that great. The author is funny and clever, but the book was a whole lot of the same thing throughout. I got bored halfway. I found myself skimming for a while until I got to the part where he lives the new testament, only to be dissatisfied. He basically skips over the new testament. Cute book, but too long and a lot of fluff, not much meat.
#insightful and fun (2008-11-18) i bought this book, well after the buzz about it had subsided, because i d heard such good things about it. and i was not disappointed. it was one of the more fun and thought-provoking non-fiction works i ve read this year. the author is a self-described secular jew, and has lived his whole life in new york. he s an editor at esquire magazine. and, previously, he published a best-selling book about read the entire britannica encyclopedia, called The Know-It-All: One Man s Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World (which i just ordered f...
#Biblically -- Yes. spiritually -- No. (2008-11-17) I had high hopes for this book, and unfortunately, they weren t met. I had expected that this book would be about someone who truly had an entire year free of any other responsibilities other than to search after God. Instead, what I saw was a guy attempting to do what so many of us attempt to do in our everyday lives -- to carve out a little corner every day for God, in between soccer practice and carpooling and trips to the dry cleaners, and Starbucks and all that other stuff. . . I guess I assumed that the difference betw...
#The Worlds Best Non-Biblical Bible Study Book Ever! (2008-11-16) I was given this book from a friend who thought I would enjoy it. This is probably the best gift ever given to me. This book covers the Bible pretty much from A-Z with insight and humor. As a Christian I could not read this book without digging deeper into my own spiritually. This book prompted me to walk the walk a little better. Okay, I m not quite the fanatic that A. J. Jacobs (Jacob) was, but hey, who is? I cannot recommend this book enough. I want to start a Bible/Book study to discuss this with my frien...

God designed men to be dangerous, says John Eldredge. Simply look at the dreams and desires written in the heart of every boy: To be a hero, to be a warrior, to live a life of adventure and risk. Sadly, most men abandon those dreams and desires-aided by a Christianity that feels like nothing more than pressure to be a nice guy. It is no wonder that many men avoid church, and those who go are often passive and bored to death. In this provocative book, Eldredge gives women a look inside the true heart of a man and gives men permission to be what God designed them to be-dangerous, passionate, alive, and free.

#Wild at Heart by John Eldredge (2008-11-19) Every man should read this book! It will do for men what Captivating (by the same author) does for women.
#Are You a Man? Married to One? Read this Book! (2008-11-08) I was hesitant to read this book. I had never heard of John Eldridge until a friend of mine handed me this book and said read it. The title says it all, and I applaud Eldridge for touching on a subject few are willing to delve into. Eldridge answers the questions that psychologists and counselors have been trying to answer for decades: Why do men act the way they do? What s the call of a man s heart? Where do those nagging desires within every man come from? How are men supposed to act? What is masculinity? How do women fit ...
#Not Christian, it s a Pop Psychology (2008-11-08) / WILD AT HEART (WAH) by John Eldredge John Eldredge is not a Christian, but he does like to put on the act, because when one is selling Pop Psychology by way of personal testimony, the foreshortened theological propositions must be couched in terms of personal conviction. One need only indicate that the Error of Ecclecticism is evident in WAH, because Theology and Psychology do not share a commonality of core assumptives. His greatest asset is the vast number of unthinking readers who follow populist movements for ...
#One of my Favorite Books! (2008-10-31) I am reading Wild at Heart again. This is my 3rd copy, because I have always given the others away after I read it. This has changed the way I think. An excellent book that will help you find a fuller life once you understand why you tick the way you do.
#Finally! (2008-10-29) Finally a book that s about guys being real men!!!I absolutely recommend this to all Christian boys looking toward manhood, and for the men looking to discover the depths of their soul. I thought this was another touchy-feely book when i saw the title. Just the words discovering the secret of a man s soul made me almost want to put this down. Trust me, once you start it up you ll see it s more get out there and be alive or my favorite be dangerous. Overall this really has brought me closer to my Lord and Savior. I really have alot to work on!!
