The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban’s backyard Anyone who despairs of the individual’s power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan’s treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schools—especially for girls—that offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson’s quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

#Just Amazing (2008-11-23) One of the most touching books I have read in a long time. It is just amazing how much we can do with a little bit of financial help to these NGO s like CIA. I have decided to become a regular contributor of these noble cause, just because of this book. You have to read it, you will never regret you did.
#Inspiring (2008-11-22) What an inspiring book! This is a great read about what one person can do with a vision and very little resources. His tenacity is incredible. Hooray for Greg Mortenson!
#Would have been a great article (2008-11-19) This is a tale about a remarkable man - unfortunately it is not very well written. Even tho the action takes place in different towns, it is basically the same story over and over. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in building schools for the poor in Pakistan and also as an aid to sleeplessness.
#3 and a half stars (2008-11-19) The story itself was quite amazing but I found it difficult to read at times. I think it could have been much shorter. . . I could not keep all of the people straight about halfway through the book. It must have been difficult to write this book with so many stories to tell but it bordered on boring and tedious at times. It would pick up for a while and then I d be bleary-eyed again a few pages later. I really liked the beginning of the story and felt connected to his mission and promise but then I started to think he was a bit off (good inten...
#No wonder it unanimously gets 5 stars (2008-11-18) Truly one of the most inspirational books I have read in awhile. The beginning of this book is a little slow, focusing on Greg Mortenson s climbing expeditions that eventually leads him to find the people of Korphe, and promising them a school. After coming back to the states and scrounging up funds from philanthropists, Mortenson goes back and builds many schools in various regions through Pakistan/Afghanistan/Waziristan. And the story of his determination and the struggles he goes through are extremely inspirational. There is no o...

#USEFUL FOR BEGINNERS! (2008-11-19) This book is very good for people who wuold like to start their preparation for the GMAT. You have enough exercices and and a useful section (explanations) about math, algebra and geometry. After, if you need a more brilliant preparation you need to practice on GMAT 800. I m Italian and when I started to read GMAT 800 (by KEPLAN) I found it harder (contents and language).
#so-so (2008-11-17) I wasnt totally happy w/ this book. As other readers have posted there are countless errors in the math sections. For example on page 335 of the 11th edition they say (xr)^2 = x^(2r). This is hard to look over as a typo - as are other errors. There are also no full-length exams in this book. I mean, come-on, why are the GMAC guys such tight-wads with their questions. I dont really like they way they run the show. . .
#Good book but with some typo s (2008-11-10) Math section has many typo s (more than 10 for sure), use google to find the corrections. Apart from that its good.
#Great source for practice questions, but not good for theory review (2008-11-10) This book should be the first one you buy during your GMAT prep as it contains retired GMAT questions from past exams - this gives you a much better feel for the types of questions you are likely to encounter on the day. There are plenty of questions to practice with in both the quant and verbal sections - although beware that if you are also purchasing the old exams from the [. . . ] that some of these will be replicated. The real weakness with this book is with the level of detail in reviews. Parti...
#No longer useful as it once was (2008-11-07) GMAT has changed a lot over the last 3 years and the materials in this book are no longer as useful as they once was. Most of the questions in this book are over 10 years old and they share approximately 90% of the questions with the 10th edition. The result is the difficulty level and types of questions contained in this book are no longer fully reflective of the questions one will receive in the real GMAT. If you need proof, download GMAT Prep (just google it) from the providers of the GMAT and you will see the GMAT Prep questions are ...

Millions of children and adults tell themselves or are told by others to stop procrastinating, start concentrating, sit still, finish what they started, and get organized. But what appears to be a matter of self-discipline is for many a neurological problem. Now two doctors reveal the impact precise diagnosis and treatment can have.

#Driven to Distraction (2008-09-19) Cd was very informative. Much easier to put in cd and listen than reading for hours. It covers all basic points of ADD. The fast overview should answer most question that a layman would have.
#I m too distracted to review this but I wasn t distracted at all reading it (2008-08-24) Honestly, the title of my review wasn t originally intended to be funny. I came on Amazon to look up the publishing date for a footnote/bibliography reference for this book. I now have spent too much time reading reviews on diet books and updating my other reviews on movies and phones to do this review justice. But if you re looking it up, you don t want a long review anyway. It is the best book in the world for someone with ADD, thinks they might have ADD or someone who has to live with a per...
#One of the classics - but dated (2008-08-22) This is an excellent book for the person who has not heard of ADHD until recently, particularly for the adult who has been unknowingly suffering its effects. But I was an adolescent when ADHD first became widely recognized and diagnosed, and I grew up with friends and family members who were diagnosed and treated for their ADHD, at a time when You mean I m not crazy, stupid or lazy? was sort of a joke catchphrase in the high school hallways. This book presumes that, by the time you read it, your ADHD or that of your child has already g...
#The ADHD bible (2008-07-10) Having had ADHD since birth and as a recovering alcholic, I found this books to answer the many questions that I had regarding the disease. I was always a self-medicator and that turns out to be a classic symptom of ADHD. Five years and no drugs or alcohol!
#Illumination - first step to healing (2008-07-06) I am an MD and knew for years I did not think like other people-in fact it was extremely difficult to think at all. Getting through med school was tough, I studied constantly and would read and re-read the weighty textbooks, still only average among my classmates, after a stellar (and very structured) high school and college performance. Every page of this book had an aha moment for me, brought me to tears numerous times when I saw how comparable my suffering was with the Hallowell patients. Knowledge of this malady alone has helped...

#Beautiful Read (2008-11-17) This book is beautiful. I had to read it in middle school, and then read it again multiple times when I was in high school and college. I suggest it to anyone. It really makes you think and it is so easy to relate to the main character. The world portrayed by this author is so vivid! Read and enjoy!
#Easy reading (2008-11-15) I got through this book in one sitting. It was quite captivating. If you are a fan of The Outer Limits or The Twighlight Zone you might really like this book since it was like reading an episode of a story from one of those shows. The only reason I give it only four stars is that it felt as if the author could have done more with it in the end. It was like he got bored writing the story and punctuated with an ending.
#Amazing. (2008-11-06) I read this in 7th grade and loved the book. I recently ran out of books and I read it over again (I m a college freshman) and loved it even more. The plot is amazing, the characters make it even better. This is truly a piece of art, and the meaning behind the book is astounding. I would definitely suggest this book for a good page-turner to all ages.
#better than expected (2008-11-04) Honestly, I did not expect this book to be this good. Its target audience is young adults, but it certainly is a great read for adults also. I finished the book in one day. The author created a main character you care so much about you just want to read it all the way to the end to find out what happened to him. The idea is creative and the pace is fast and engaging. I highly recommend it.
#Awful, Disturbing, A Waste! (2008-10-16) It was awful! I DO NOT recommend anyone read it. Maybe some people would like it, but not me. I kept reading it, hoping it would get good, but it just got worse. And the worst part about it was that at the end, I seriously felt like the book had somehow taken something from me. And I don t mean just my time. Now I m just trying to get it out of my head. It had the potential to be really interesting, but I just don t think it quite got there. Someone said it was rushed at the end. I agree. It felt like the author just kind ...

See how the brain works while using it in the process of reading this book! Most of us have no idea what s really going on inside our heads. Yet brain scientists have uncovered details every business leader, parent, and teacher should know - like that physical activity boosts your brain power. How do we learn? What exactly do sleep and stress do to our brains? Why is multi-tasking a myth? Why is it so easy to forget - and so important to repeat new information? Is it true that men and women have different brains? In Brain Rules, Dr. John Medina, a molecular biologist, shares his lifelong interest in how the brain sciences might influence the way we teach our children and the way we work. In each chapter, he describes a brain rule - what scientists know for sure about how our brains work - and then offers transformative ideas for our daily lives.Medina s fascinating stories and sense of humour breathe life into brain science. You ll learn why Michael Jordan was no good at baseball. You ll...

#Very good book about the brain and how it integrates w psychology (2008-11-23) It describes very well and in simple language how the brain works, and how it integrates with psychology. It gave me a good insight how our lives and thoughts may affect our brain.
#The THREE Brain Rules (2008-11-08) Why does EVERY scientist who writes a book for the masses, on the brain, need to go into great length about what the structures look like. This book would have been better if the author focused more on useful information. For example, Gender (which he refers to as sex). He gives no useful information about what we can DO once we understand that gender brains are different. So there really are three or four usable brain rules.
#Generally I do not like rules (2008-11-04) The first rule grabbed me - exercise to boost brain power. Medina gave lots of examples of how exercise helps brain function. He also explained how our school and workplace are set up which encourages no activity so low brain function. Since I am a health guy and believe in exercise, I really liked the first rule. The book included a 40 minute DVD. Firly well don. Funny in parts. Since I had been inspired about the exercise I watched the DVD while I was on my treadmill while trying to read the rest of the book. Of course, one of hi...
#Paradim Shifting (2008-09-30) Brain Rules is a fascinating book. Medina has taken the complicated brain and made it understandable and interesting with an engaging narrative. Not only did this book cause me to look at my own life and brain health differently, it caused me to see the world differently. Reading Brain Rules is like finding the missing puzzle piece to some perplexing life questions. That sounds like hyperbole, but for me it was true. The chapters on memory are particularly sticky. Have you ever wondered why someone remembers an event you were both at so differently t...
#Read this Book if You Teach, Learn, Manage, Work, Raise Children, or Age (Did I leave anyone out?) (2008-09-25) Dr. John Medina, the author of Brain Rules, is a tsunami of positive energy. If you re not lucky enough to see him speak live, take the time to explore the book s website ([. . . ]) and view the DVD packaged with the book. His qualifications are top-notch - he s a developmental molecular biologist focused on the genes involved in human brain development and the genetics of psychiatric disorders. He currently holds joint affiliate faculty appointments at the University ...
