#Great going away to college gift! (2008-11-20) I won this book as part of a fashion show drawing at Macy s and put it on the nightstand. I didn t think too much about it until I heard my husband chuckling . He started reading sections of the book to me and pretty soon we were both laughing! But, the advice is spot on. This isn t just a book about what to wear. It has sections on food and basic good manners too. These are invaluable things that seem to have been missed by some of our kids (or maybe they are all other people s children). The recipes are nice too, a little s...
#Freakin Fabulous Indeed (2008-11-20) Clinton Kelly is smart and funny, and his voice comes through loud and clear in this book. If you are a fan of What Not to Wear, you will hear Clinton s voice as you read. Freakin Fabulous is an easy and entertaining read, and it is full of great tips to help you do just about everything, well, fabulously. Specifically, Clinton takes readers through how to dress, speak, behave, eat, drink, entertain and decorate fabulously. If the book has one weakness, it is the recipes. I am not really a foie gras kind of girl, however, the spiced sweet potat...
#Good advice presented in a fun way. (2008-11-20) I d never watched What Not to Wear, so I didn t know what to expect from this book, but, being a midwest farm girl, I thought I might be able to use a little help. First off, at 43, I felt like maybe I was a little too old for the book, but I thought that someone like my 23 year old daughter would be able to get more from it. Aside from that, I enjoyed the book. It had useful information about fashion, including how to dress to best show off (or disguise!) your body type, dressing for different occasions, and how to find a great sh...
#How to have class (2008-11-19) I welcome any advice on having more class. Especially any advice that is as fun to receive as this book was to read. Anyone can have class and style, no matter what your age, race, income level, or beauty. Clinton discusses dressing well, having good manners, treating others with respect, knowing important social protocols, cooking, entertaining, and decorating. This tongue-in-cheek book is a pleasure to peruse as well as study. I know his personality from his TV show What Not to Wear, so I had an idea of what to expect. He gives us golden advice w...
#I LOVE Clinton- and this book! (2008-11-18) I love Clinton and the TLC show What Not To Wear. If you watch the show and enjoy Clinton s humor you will enjoy this book. The book contains a lot of good information about decorating, entertaining- even recipes. The tips in the book are real, from how to dress certain body types to grammar lessons, and I m sure you could pick them up in any number of places. What makes this book stand out is the delivery. As I was reading some of the one liners and asides Clinton makes it was almost as if I could hear him saying them! They are hil...

With the same candor ...

#Will Farrell could have written a better book about James Lipton (2008-11-16) Oh, how James Lipton loves James Lipton. I m glad he loves his wife, but the fawning got a bit excessive. He never mentions he was married before, except to mention in passing that at a party he met the famous actress Nina Foch, who became a lifelong friend. He failed to mention they were married for five years! What really shocked me was when I saw the recent Inside the Actors Studio 200th show special where Dave Chapelle interviewed James Lipton. In the show, Lipton mentions quite a few anecdotes...
#The James Lipton Ego Trip (2008-10-31) I agree completely with the reviewer who stated Lipton is pompous and pedantic. This book is mostly Lipton s autobiography interspersed with a bits of material about the actors who appeared on Inside the Actor s Studio. Who wants to read about Lipton s inconsequential life, his Oedipal adoration of his mother and his obsession with a wife who is much too attractive for him? At length, he describes producing the annual Bob Hope Specials and the Jimmy Carter celebration at the Kennedy Center. Big deal, ancient history and not interesting...
#An uneven, occasionally fascinating read (2008-09-20) Many of the people who have reviewed this book seem disappointed that there is so much Lipton and not enough Inside the Actors Studio. Actually, I had quite the opposite reaction. I wanted this book for all the inside scoop on Inside the Actors Studio yet found myself getting swept up in Lipton s fascinating life and, more importantly, his rich and colorful writing style (I was so taken with his writing that I went out and bought his novel, Mirrors. )I wanted to wallow in the words and the saga of this fascinating man, not sure ...
#Even the half that isn t Inside is Great (2008-08-16) I loved this book!!! James Lipton can write and does indeed write extremely well. The first half is indeed more autobiographical in nature but is a very interesting behind the scenes story of his life and art. Mr. Lipton includes plenty of self-congratulation, but contrary to some reviews, which made the book much more interesting for me. Most of the last half is about Inside the Actor s Studio, a TV-series that I never missed once I discovered it. I ran into a dozen or so passes that were quite moving as I read this book. I ...
#A Most Enjoyable Journey (2008-08-10) James Lipton provides the reader with a modestly-written account of his multi-faceted career and his many accomplishments. It is easy to journey with him from his initial efforts to earn money for law school to his accomplishments on radio, in television, on the stage and, finally as a (the?) principal of the Actors Studio. That s the first half of the book. The second half is a review of many of the actors, actresses, writers and directors who were interviewed by him on Inside the Actor s Studio arranged with emphasis less on the individua...

#My son loved this calendar. (2007-02-08) My 10-year-old son requested this as a Christmas gift and he really likes it.
#Who doesn t love the Simpsons? (2007-01-21) Spend your year with the Simpsons like you should be. The centerfolds in the calendars make nice posters, if you re into that kind of thing. I ve been using the Simpsons Fun calendar for about 4 years now, and I m never disappointed. This year s theme is travel, so the pictures are scenes from episodes, unlike previous calendars which were made up for the most part.
#Buy this every year (2007-01-11) I buy this every year for my teenage son. It s becaome tradition and each year it is hung on the wall and used. He loves it because he loves the Simpsons. There are birthdays listed of celebrities although I m not sure he cares too much about that. The calendar is usually funny and colorful.
#Spectacular Simpsons (2002-12-25) This calendar is just what i expected - fun, colourful and entertaining.
#Another Great Simpsons Calendar (2002-10-30) Another year, another great Simpsons calendar. With the impending arrival of 2002, Matt Groening and the creators of the Simpsons treat us to twelve months of memorable Simpsons moments. Extracting scenes from the show s many seasons, the 2003 Simpsons Fun Calendar provides the user with colorful, glossy pictures that not only catch one s attention, but also captures the zany, fun spirit of Springfield s many denizens. If you are a Simpsons fan or know of one, this calendar will make a great gift during this upcoming holiday season.

Designed for philosophers as well as readers with no particular philosophical background, the essays in this lively book are grouped into four amusing acts. Act One looks at the four Seinfeld characters through a philosophical lens and includes Jerry and Socrates: The Examined Life? Act Two examines historical philosophers from a Seinfeldian standpoint and offers Plato or Nietzsche? Time, Essence, and Eternal Recurrence in Seinfeld. Act Three, Untimely Meditations by the Water Cooler, explores philosophical issues raised by the show, such as, Is it rational for George to do the opposite? And Act Four, Is There Anything Wrong with That?, discusses ethical problems of everyday life using Seinfeld as a basis. Seinfeld and Philosophy also provides a guide to Seinfeld episodes and a chronological list of the philosophers cited in this book.

#Great Read (2007-07-06) My philosphy proffessor gave us a list of books to choose from so that we could write a paper on it. This was on the list and since I have always been a huge Seinfeld fan I bought it. I thoroghly enjoyed the book. It made me think about the characters more than I ever did watching the show, and it even made me laugh a little once or twice. I highly recommend this book!
#best of these type books (2006-04-29) but this is not saying mcuh because the rest are very bad. What each of these books needs are realy thoughtful thinkers who know philosophy, who i n this case know Seinfeld, and who have sense of humor to go with insights. Writers are dull, take themselves too seriously even when they have something okay to say.
#Not Even Close (2006-02-04) If you don t know much about Seinfeld or philosophy you might enjoy this book, but if you re a Seinfeld nut then avoid it at all costs. The show is incorrectly quoted several times and facts are also made up at times. The summarization of Socrates allegory of the cave on page nine misstates some pretty major details. I suffered through the book until page 47 when the writer talks about how Kramer and Mickey embrace communism in the episode The Race. Anyone who has seen that show even once knows that Mickey is trying to talk Kramer out of communi...
#SEINFELD S COMEDIC INSPIRATION (2006-01-24) Yes, Seinfeld is always funny. Here s what he said about his comedic inspiration: [Lois Nettleton] was married to Jean Shepherd. He s the guy who invented talk radio and really formed my entire comedic sensibility. Yes. I learned how to do comedy from Jean Shepherd. He said this in his commentary for The Gymnast episode on the sitcom s DVD set, sixth season. Who is Jean Shepherd? See the book EXCELSIOR, YOU FATHEAD! THE ART AND ENIGMA OF JEAN SHEPHERD.
#One of the worse books ever (2005-10-21) Amazingly bad book. As someone who loves Seinfeld and Philosophy, I found this book insulting for both, and espacially for the readers. I tried reading parts of it, and simply couldn t bring myself to finish any chapter. Just a bunch of jiberish from people who apperently don t like, know, or get Seinfeld very much. The straw that got me to finally give up (and write this review) is when I read that Seinfeld was not the first to write a comedy about nothing, and that Much ado about nothing is also such a comedy. What, the writer just goo...

#Great read with fascinating behind the scene information (2008-10-06) In the spirit of Volume 1, this volume has extensive behind the scenes information and interviews. A MUST for any Firefly fan.
#Another warm fuzzy for any Firefly fan (2008-03-07) If you re reading this review, then you must not own volume one of Firefly: The Official Companion. If you did, then you wouldn t need a review to sell you on this one. So I have a piece of advice for you: buy both books. If you have a place in your heart for Firefly, then make a place on your coffee table for these books. Each one is overflowing with behind-the-scenes information about every episode of Firefly. There s sure to be something to interest every fan. I particularly enjoy all the prop info. You get detailed views of...
#A warm fuzzy for any Firefly fan (2008-03-07) If you watched Firefly, then odds are you loved Firefly. And if that s the case, then you need the Firefly: The Official Companion books. When I first opened this book (on Valentine s Day night. . . it was a present from my wife), I couldn t stop turning pages. I flipped through the whole thing, oohing and aahhing over all the images an extras. This book is packed with bonus material any Firefly lover will adore. You get prop details, cast and crew reminiscing, insight on the making of the first half of the episodes on the Firefly DVDs...
#excellent compendium of the whole verse (2008-02-25) I loved this book. I was initially just expecting some behind the scenes photos, still photos, cast interviews, Joss talking about the show, etc. Then I find out that the book contains the shooting scripts for the first six episodes, and it almost brought a tear to my eye. I loved everything about it, and defiintely plan to pick up the second volume. Shiny!
