At the heart of The Audacity of Hope is Senator Obama?s vision of how his country can move beyond its divisions to tackle concrete problems. He examines the growing economic insecurity of American families and the racial and religious tensions within the body politic, and considers the nature of threats from outside America?s borders. By returning to the principles that gave birth to the US Constitution, he says, Americans have a chance to repair a political process that is broken, and restore to working order a government that has fallen dangerously out of touch with millions of ordinary Americans.

#Simply Brilliant! (2008-11-23) The title says it all! Barack Obama reveals his policy ideas for the nation and the sub-text makes it readily evident why he was elected president of the United States. In typical Obama fashion, his ideas are well-considered and thoughtfully crafted. Given the historical nature of his presidency, this would make an excellent gift for anyone who does not own it. I ve given several.
#Presidential (2008-11-23) An Enlightening insight into our new president. Agree or disagree, the throngs who claimed during his campaign that he offed no specifics simply needed to crack a book. Showcasing his unusual ability to fairly and accurately include other opinions in defining his own, Obama s comprehention of contrary philosophies shines forth in a distinguished and diplomatic prose. Well grounded in common sense, candor and hard work, Mr. Obama brings us into his world and his thought processes. One comes away with the distict feeling that even if you don t agree with th...
#The real Barack Obama? (2008-11-19) For anyone out there wondering who the real Barack Obama is, The Audacity of Hope will give you one clear idea. It is part memoir, part political manifesto, encompassing his comprehensive vision for America. The book reveals him to be very smart, well read, compassionate, and sometimes quite funny. I think few people reading the book will agree with him on every policy issue, and no one is really prepared to take on the problems facing our country. But, reading this book gave me faith that the American people have elected a very capable public s...
#Good Read (2008-11-18) Though not as good as Dreams from my Father, a well written book. The book talks deeply about Barack s ideals and issues with the current state of politics. Though you may not agree with his political views, Barack is an undeniably intellegent person who is not afraid to express his political views. The message was powerful, it is now just a matter of executing.
#Great Book! (2008-11-17) After reading this book, all I can say is, I m so glad I voted for him. This book is inspiring, thoughtful and hopeful. Read it. I would also recommend highly his other book: Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance

In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a black African father and a white American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father—a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man—has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey—first to a small town in Kansas, from which he retraces the migration of his mother’s family to Hawaii, and then to Kenya, where he meets the African side of his family, confronts the bitter truth of his father’s life, and at last reconciles his divided inheritance.

#Our Father, Who Art in Heaven, Hallowed Be Thy Name. (2008-11-22) Published in 1995, long before Barack Obama could have even conceived of running for president, this coming-of-age memoir brilliantly reflects the confusion of having mixed race parents and of being a black man in today s America. It also finely tells the story of a boy and then a man and his elusive delusions about his missing father. Finally tracking down his heritage and the truth, through Kansas, then Hawaii, and then Kenya, Obama spins a truthful and authentic tale about losing and then finding himself through his...
#The Seinfeld candidate (2008-11-22) Bill Ayers sure can write a good book. Some great fiction mixed with some nice platitudes that everyone can project on to - like the candidate himself.
#An Insightful and Powerful Book (2008-11-21) Barack Obama has written an insightful and powerful book of self-discovery that shaped him and his father s legacy. Obama s search for the truth about race and faith has revealed the powerful character of this great American leader. This book guides us to a further study of identity, class and race alongside Jeffery Leving s www. ourblackheritage. com.
#Obama, a remarkable generalizer (2008-11-17) I have rarely been so privileged to read a book such as DREAMS OF MY FATHER. Obama reveals his thought processes as he struggled to find his place in the larger sicial fabric. Were that all, this would not be so great a book. But, he describes his maturation in thinking as he interacted and learned from others. And, while personally growng, he was able to empathize with others from virtually all walks of life, to relate to them and to abstract the essence of their needs and being. Finally, he was able to integrate those observations int...
#Get to know Obama (2008-11-17) This man has a truly inspirational and amazing life and history. I devoured the book and came back for more. I ve since recommended it to friends and family who have felt that they don t really know the man. Now that he s been elected, I hope everyone will seek out his books and get to know him a little better and let him touch your life as he s definitely touched mine.

Outrageous, raw, and painfully funny true stories straight from the life of the actor, comedian, and much-loved cast member of The Howard Stern Show—with a foreword by Howard Stern. When Artie Lange joined the permanent cast of The Howard Stern Show in 2001, it was possibly the greatest thing ever to happen in the Stern universe, second only to the show’s move to the wild, uncensored frontier of satellite radio. Lange provided what Stern had yet to find all in the same place: a wit quick enough to keep pace with his own, a pathetic self-image to dwarf his own, a personal history both heartbreaking and hilarious, and an ingrained sense of self-sabotage that continually keeps things interesting. A natural storyteller with a bottomless pit of material, Lange grew up in a close-knit, working-class Italian family in Union, New Jersey, a maniacal Yankees fan who pursued the two things his father said he was cut out for—sports and comedy. Tragically, Artie Lange Sr. never saw the truth i...

#I was surprised (2008-11-23) . . . at how varied this book was. I suppose I thought it was going to just be a humourous memior. I m familiar with Artie Lange, and I know there s a lot of demons there, but I was still surprised at how heartfelt/ emotionally engaging the sections concerning his addictions, his father s story, and his attempted suicide were. The book, despite the good pace and flow, seems a bit rushed. Not as in it moves along too quickly without giving adequate time to the topic, but rushed in the sense that the publisher was trying to make sure that this book w...
#initially funny, then predictable, & poorly edited (2008-11-23) a good editor could have made this a 4-star. there are lots of laugh out loud moments in the book, but the tone wanders all over the place. it wangs around from hilarious incidents well told to look-at-me-i m-totally-out-of-control-&-can t-be-trusted segments to oddly preachy & sentimental segments. halfway through, the weight of the accumulated repetitive-&-therefore-predictable grossness of much of his behavior started to spoil my ability to enjoy the funny moments in that context. i am, BTW, completely unfamilia...
#Respect (2008-11-22) Just wanted to write that this book made me think about the love that I have for my parents and my children. Thanks Artie.
#Too Fat To Write (2008-11-22) Haven t we read similar themed books over the years with regard to celebrities? The Dirt, Heroin Diaries, Slash, Marsha Brady, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, and several other stars/people that have faced addiction and want to share redundant stories with us. As Artie would say. . . Waaaahhhhhhhhhhh. This topic/genre has been played over and over and over and over again. Are we supposed to celebrate a guy that thrives off his own self-destruction? I d rather read a book about Riley Martin and his close encounters with Bohavians, or whatever the F you ...
#ARTIE RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (2008-11-21) As a gay fan of HS, and cast and crew, it was a great pleasure to read what Artie had to say. Artie & family, wish you all well. Patdallas tx

This brilliant multiple biography is centered on Lincoln s mastery of men and how it shaped the most significant presidency in the nation s history.

#Best Book in 30 Years (2008-11-19) This book should be on the must read list for anyone who is either in a position of leadership, or would like to be. Having read this book I could completely understand how people make it their life s work, being a Lincoln scholar. While many have written of Lincoln, this author gives equal coverage to those critical to the success of his efforts, those who were so assured that they would be the presidencial nominee, that they did not even attend the convention. To learn how to work effectively with those who we may not necessarily like, is a le...
#A closer look at Goodwin s upbeat take.... (2008-11-19) Professor Matthew Pinsker has an interesting (cautionary) critique of Goodwin s book, Op-Ed section 11/18/08 LA Times: Lincoln and The Myth of Team of Rivals. He offers some good points to keep in mind while enjoying the book. The three stars are what Pinsker might have given, maybe four. See also Prof. James Oakes piece in the NT Times, Op-Ed 11/20/08 for some further overdue de-hyping of Goodwin s book. Lincoln would recognize the names, but he probably would think the chemistry described by Goodwin never happened in...
#A fantastic president (2008-11-18) We purchased this title as an audio book to listen on a driving trip we took this November. It proved to us what a great president and friend we all had in Abraham Lincoln, and what he did not just for this country but for mankind in general. I read a great deal of books about history and this one truly stands out.
#Before I buy (2008-11-15) I have yet to read Doris Kearns Goodwins Book Titled, The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln . As one who has read the three volume tome of Shelby Foote on the Civil War from end to end, I need not find that subject covered in this book, and with the title, certainly would not expect to find such information. I expect this book to supply details about the well documented, and often written about life of Our Greatest President, that others have overlooked. I seek to learn from this book whether Lincoln s political genius offers us any lessons we can app...
#Fantastic read (2008-11-11) I m not a history buff, but I fell in love with this book. The author did a wonderful job describing how Lincoln built his cabinet with his political rivals, the complex relationships between the men and dynamic personalities. . . I learned a great deal about Lincoln s presidency, Civil War and the various leaders from that era. It s a great read!

How much of an impact can an animal have? How many lives can one cat touch? How is it possible for an abandoned kitten to transform a small library, save a classic American town, and eventually become famous around the world? You can t even begin to answer those questions until you hear the charming story of Dewey Readmore Books, the beloved library cat of Spencer, Iowa.Dewey s story starts in the worst possible way. Only a few weeks old, on the coldest night of the year, he was stuffed into the returned book slot at the Spencer Public Library. He was found the next morning by library director, Vicki Myron, a single mother who had survived the loss of her family farm, a breast cancer scare, and an alcoholic husband. Dewey won her heart, and the hearts of the staff, by pulling himself up and hobbling on frostbitten feet to nudge each of them in a gesture of thanks and love. For the next nineteen years, he never stopped charming the people of Spencer with his enthusiasm, warmth, humility...

#Dewey, the Small Town Library Cat (2008-11-22) Cute book! Received in great condition. Will make a nice gift for a fellow cat lover. Highly recommend.
#Cat lover or not - Read this book (2008-11-22) This book is not only about the life of a beloved cat, but shows that life and love don t always behave in the manner portrayed in the tv show, Father Knows Best. Based in a small town, the story could be the life if anyone. One s life is not only what one wishes it to be, but many thing impact that life. This book goes through the time in which the economy went bust for the hardworking farming communities and how they worked through the good and the bad times. This book has sounds for what we are living in today.
#Dewey (2008-11-22) This was my first Kindle book purchase and it was a heartwarming book. Vicki was his guardian angel and he was hers. Bravo for sharing his story with the world.
#Love that cat. (2008-11-22) This is a sweet story of the love of people for cats and the responding love of the cat to people. If you have ever loved a cat, you will love this book.
#Love cats? You ll love this book! (2008-11-21) I m not a big fan of Iowa, but I came to love this place where a kitten managed to survive a deadly cold night in a metal box to become the darling of a town. Dewey was a great cat, obviously, and his personality shines through. I can t say this book is well-written, but Vicki Myron and her co-writer do a good job with presenting Dewey in the best possible light. What makes the book good is that anyone who knows/owns/or is owned by cat can see feline all over dear Dew. You keep looking at the picture on the cover and thinking, What a ...
