The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban’s backyard Anyone who despairs of the individual’s power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan’s treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schools—especially for girls—that offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson’s quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

#Just Amazing (2008-11-23) One of the most touching books I have read in a long time. It is just amazing how much we can do with a little bit of financial help to these NGO s like CIA. I have decided to become a regular contributor of these noble cause, just because of this book. You have to read it, you will never regret you did.
#Inspiring (2008-11-22) What an inspiring book! This is a great read about what one person can do with a vision and very little resources. His tenacity is incredible. Hooray for Greg Mortenson!
#Would have been a great article (2008-11-19) This is a tale about a remarkable man - unfortunately it is not very well written. Even tho the action takes place in different towns, it is basically the same story over and over. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in building schools for the poor in Pakistan and also as an aid to sleeplessness.
#3 and a half stars (2008-11-19) The story itself was quite amazing but I found it difficult to read at times. I think it could have been much shorter. . . I could not keep all of the people straight about halfway through the book. It must have been difficult to write this book with so many stories to tell but it bordered on boring and tedious at times. It would pick up for a while and then I d be bleary-eyed again a few pages later. I really liked the beginning of the story and felt connected to his mission and promise but then I started to think he was a bit off (good inten...
#No wonder it unanimously gets 5 stars (2008-11-18) Truly one of the most inspirational books I have read in awhile. The beginning of this book is a little slow, focusing on Greg Mortenson s climbing expeditions that eventually leads him to find the people of Korphe, and promising them a school. After coming back to the states and scrounging up funds from philanthropists, Mortenson goes back and builds many schools in various regions through Pakistan/Afghanistan/Waziristan. And the story of his determination and the struggles he goes through are extremely inspirational. There is no o...

What business entrepreneurs are to the economy, social entrepreneurs are to social change. They are, writes David Bornstein, the driven, creative individuals who question the status quo, exploit new opportunities, refuse to give up--and remake the world for the better. How to Change the World tells the fascinating stories of these remarkable individuals--many in the United States, others in countries from Brazil to Hungary--providing an In Search of Excellence for the nonprofit sector. In America, one man, J.B. Schramm, has helped thousands of low-income high school students get into college. In South Africa, one woman, Veronica Khosa, developed a home-based care model for AIDS patients that changed government health policy. In Brazil, Fabio Rosa helped bring electricity to hundreds of thousands of remote rural residents. Another American, James Grant, is credited with saving 25 million lives by leading and marketing a global campaign for immunization. Yet another, Bill Drayton...

#Good condition, quick delivery (2008-10-24) Good condition of the book as specified, and it was delivered within a week. so quite a good experience overall
#Great Case Studies (2008-09-22) The case studies Bornstein presents here are fascinating, and, at once uplifting and heartrending. I very much enjoyed reading the book, and I would probably recommend it to others interested in social entrepreneurship. Now that it s been a few days since I finished the book, though, I find it had some deficiencies:--Bornstein doesn t sufficiently define social entrepreneur. --Drayton, founder of Ashoka, is presented with a bit too much hero worship. I d have liked to see Bornstein provide his own interpretations rather than rely on the Ashoka frame...
#Social Entrepreneurs Make the World a Better Place (2008-09-02) Social entrepreneurs are a relatively new breed in their field but their numbers are growing larger and their influence growing stronger each year. How to Change the World features the stories of several successful social entrepreneurs with personal stories that detail the challenges and many obstacles placed in their paths each day as the struggled to make the world a better place. Many of these entrepreneurs were considering a career that including the owning/operating of their own business enterprise. But instead of...
#How to change the world (2008-05-09) Good and useful, but probably need some updating and more information on current sources of financial support, specially for projects in developing countries.
#Single best book I have read in past five years (2008-01-27) I read a lot, almost totally non-fiction, and for the past several years, after accidentally becoming a top Amazon reviewer on the strength of 300 reviews lifted from the annotated bibliographies of my first two books, I have been dedicated, as a hobby, to reading in the service of the public. My goal in life at the age of 55, what I learned from this book is called an encore career, is to be intelligence officer to the five billion poor, and--I now realize from this book--to the social entrepreneurs that are changing the w...

In the last two decades, free markets have swept the globe. But traditional capitalism has been unable to solve problems like inequality and poverty. In Muhammad Yunus’ groundbreaking sequel to Banker to the Poor, he outlines the concept of social business—business where the creative vision of the entrepreneur is applied to today’s most serious problems: feeding the poor, housing the homeless, healing the sick, and protecting the planet. Creating a World Without Poverty reveals the next phase in a hopeful economic and social revolution that is already underway.

#An inspiring success story of a new social business model (2008-11-11) I ve just finished reading the book from Muhammad Yunus - the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, and I cannot give it less than 5 stars. It is an inspiring book that can touch your heart and motivate you to fight against poverty. At the same time, it did not quite match my expectations in terms of content, so I d like to make clear in this review what you should and should not expect from this great book. First of all, Muhammad Yunus presents his vision of the social business. It is a powerful idea based on challengi...
#It wasn t the original book (2008-10-24) The cover is the same you see in the picture. However it s removable paper cover, meaning it s not the original book. Someone got the original book, made thousands of cookies in a blue cover book, and added this beautiful removable paper cover to it. The bootom line is I bought thinking it was the original book, but it wasn t. However, the text is the same, so I m going to enjoy it anyway!
#A reason to hope (2008-10-24) Yunus has written a frank and straightforward description of a vision of a different and better world. The best part is that his theory has experience and people to back it up--not just dreams. It challenges the American views of community and commerce but I found that to be a source of hope in our crumbling economy. I believe it s best read if you are interested and invested in seeing society grow up.
#High on rhetoric, short on action (2008-09-07) Professor Yunus book pales in comparison to his Banker to the Poor - this current book is light on action and heavy on rhetoric. It does tell a story about how he was able to create a social enterprise - using his connections as a Nobel Prize winner and book author. It does not give any type of action plan on how the typical person could arrange a social business or even more their company more toward a social function. I was disappointed as it was more a book of opinions and far-flung ideas about how to create institutions like social...
#Creating A World Without Poverty by Muhammad Yunus (2008-09-03) In Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism, the follow up to Banker To The Poor: Micro-Lending and the Battle Against World Poverty, Muhammad Yunus describes a new economic entity he calls the social business. In short, this is an organization that has a specific social goal as opposed to regular business, for which profit is the only goal. Yunus is most famous for receiving the Nobel Prize in 2006 along with his Grameen Bank, which is the world s largest maker of microloans. Since ...

Countless books tell you how to make money: only this one turns to the wisdom of the ages to illuminate for you the reasons you have money in the first place, and the role it’s meant to play in your life and in the lives of others. Here, American entrepreneur and philanthropist Frank Hanna introduces you to a lean, no-nonsense explanation of the meaning of your money, and a guide for dealing with it constructively. From a tradition rooted in ordinary virtue, common sense, and the pragmatism that allows societies to flourish, Hanna has skillfully drawn forth principles and criteria that will enable you to discover quickly and with confidence:* Why you, in particular, have money* What your money calls you to be, and why* How to determine how much money is enough* The three vocations of all those who have money (can you name even one of them?)* How to shield yourself and your loved ones from the dangers inherent in wealth (and even make your wealth a school of virtue!)* How --- if philan...

#Breakthrough (2008-10-03) Frank Hanna s book introducing readers to the mysteries of making and retaining money is easy-going in its language and arguments from the beginning. What permeates the whole book is this ease that comes from experience and a world-view that gives him relaxation with his own nature as a money-maker. Hanna knows how to gauge morally the dangers and achievements of filthy lucre. With a trained legal and rhetorical mind, Hanna can perceive the differences in ideas and language that determine the boundaries of good and evil in that most ambiguous of human arena...
#A Must Read Book (2008-09-30) This book is a must read for anyone concerned about the proper use and management of their wealth. Frank Hanna is one of the leading financial minds of our generation, and his wise counsel provides answers to the troubling questions of the role of wealth in our lives.
#You ll discover a new way to understand your money (2008-09-19) This brilliant and challenging book is not a manual for how to make money. It s an examination of what money means for your life. I recognized the author Frank Hanna from a show called The Call of the Entrepreneur -- he is a venture capitalist who examines the role of money in our lives, whether we re wealthy or just getting by. Once we have money, what do we do with it, and why? He takes us through a series of steps, each with entertaining stories, to distinguish between what we really need and what is inessential....
