If you wanted to kill your spouse and get away with it, you had to do something truly ingenious: something that wouldn t even be perceived as murder. And that was the service that Andrew Rusk had found a way to provide. Like any quality product, it did not come cheap. Nor did it come quickly. And perhaps most important of all, it was not for those with weak constitutions. Demand was high, of course, but few people were truly suitable clients. It took a deep-rooted hatred to watch your spouse die in agony, knowing that you had brought about that pain. But on the other hand, some people bore up remarkably well. With these words, New York Times bestselling author Greg Iles returns to his trademark Southern milieu in this terrifying thriller, an unnerving tale of evil lurking beneath the veneer of idyllic suburban life. Brimming with the masterful suspense and intense psychological drama that made Turning Angel, Blood Memory, and The Quiet Game bestsellers, True...

#Entertaining but too predictable and hokie (2008-11-08) I loved Greg Iles Third Degree so I bought this book to read and I was disappointed. The storyline was interesting and somewhat creative at first, but the closer I got to the end of the story, the more disappointed I became. The predictable twists and turns sort of reminded me of how mysteries were solved in the Scooby Doo tv shows - just too predictable and unrealistic. However, I would describe this book as entertaining and a quick read.
#Good book (2008-10-21) Though this is not the best from Greg Iles, its a good read. By reading the first few chapters I kept feeling shortchanged but it got better. Shipment was quick and I love the fact that Amazon kept me updated on my shipment.
#Great Book (2008-10-17) I received this book as a Christmas present last year. On the morning of Dec. 26 I decided to read a couple of paragraphs before cleaning up the house from all the company the day before. I just couldn t put it down and spent the entire day reading this book. So, a warning. Don t start it when you have other commitments!
#Impressive Author (2008-08-14) This is the second of Iles novels that I read, the first being The Quiet Game, which set the standard high. While I didn t enjoy this book quite as much as The Quiet Game I cannot deny that it s a great story. It seemed as though it took awhile for the tension to build but once it did, it didn t let off until the end. And one has to appreciate the amount of research that the author must have invested to tell such a detailed and gripping medical accounts. I think it safe to say that anyone who enjoys reading fiction will appreciate this novel.
#Incredible ... Needs 6 or 7 stars !!! (2008-08-05) I am very partcular when it comes to thrillers and mysteries. I don t like my time wasted on ho-hum plots. THIS ONE KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF !!! I couldn t put it down. I read the whole thing in 2 days. When the FBI agent was being reprimanded by her bosses and almost fired I had to keep reminding myself it was only fiction. I had to take a Pepsid because I had heartburn so badly. I felt like she was a member of my family getting unjustly accused. I have told at least 10 people to buy this book. Iles is a master-story telle...

“I have been through some of the worst of contentious divorce litigation,” Alec Baldwin declares in A Promise to Ourselves. Using a very personal approach, he offers practical guidance to help others avoid the anguish he has endured. An Academy and Tony Award nominee and a 2007 recipient of Golden Globe, SAG, and Television Critics Association Awards for best actor in a comedy, Alec Baldwin is one of the best-known, most successful actors in the world. His relationship with Kim Basinger, the Academy Award–winning actress, lasted nearly a decade. They have a daughter named Ireland, and for a time, theirs seemed to be the model of a successful Hollywood marriage. But in 2000 they separated and in 2002 divorced. Their split---specifically the custody battle surrounding Ireland---would be the subject of media attention for years to come.In his own life and others’, Baldwin has seen the heavy toll that divorce can take---psychologically, emotionally, and financially. He has been exte...

#thanks Alec for your openness and your sharing (2008-11-18) Fantastic book. Thanks so much Alec Baldwin for your courage, your moxie, your openness, your sharing. I facilitate a dad s resource group in central IL, and while the courts here aren t the CA family courts (minor procedural and detail differences), the Illinois courts are as bad, as prejudiced against fathers, as painful a system. The system is broken beyond any semblance of working, and the presumption of shared parenting/joint custody needs to be the NORM never the exception. Prior to reading the book, I had only h...
#Articulate, Informative and Eye-Opening (2008-11-17) When I first heard that Alec Baldwin was writing a book about his divorce and the ruthless custody battle between him and his ex-wife Kim Basinger, I had to wonder in how many ways he would seek to slander her. I, like most of the ignorant public, considered Baldwin a volatile man, having seen his assault of a paparazzi on the news after the birth of his daughter Ireland and having heard the notorious and venomous voice mail he left for his daughter in 2006 (courtesy of the slimy celebrity news network TMZ). However, after readin...
#Read! (2008-11-13) The reader must focus on the very current and painful topic of this book, not on the writer. I. e. the promises we make to ourselves for our kids, the corrupted divorce system, and the Parental Alienation. Alec endured one of the most incredible battles of a lifetime: he certainly has a lot to teach us all. Alec pours out of his chest the despicable family law system that this country has generated with the emotion of a caring father and the lucidity of an historian. I applaud Alec for it!The reader must also believe that the stories are true: if you are half...
#Who is this woman on the cover? (2008-11-11) I bought this book because of the beautiful picture of Tyne Daly on the cover. She is my most favorite actress. But the book is not about Tyne at all! It is about some guy who is really pissed at his ex-wife. Can I return this book and get the Tyne Daly one instead?
#A MUCH NEEDED ATTACK ON A CORRUPT SYSTEM (2008-11-10) Congratulations to a courageous author. Unlike the sour grapes review by Haley ( who is probably a lawyer ), this book is a much needed attack on a system that needs total overhaul. Baldwin limits it to the family judicial system. I would ask that some interested author extend it to the whole American distorted take on civil jurisprudence. Across the board the money hungry lawyers have a financial field day at the expense of the public. The judges are overwhelmingly lazy bureaucrats with tenure, and could care less about justi...

#When a Guy gets divorced (2008-04-15) This book is written from the perspective of a woman. Why is it that everyone things the woman always gets screwed? When I was told , I don t want to live with you anymore and I want everything you have and will have I was looking at the end, 29 years of marriage, 9 months from retirement. #Good advice for a bad time (2007-11-15) This is for someone considering divorce and how you get your ducks in a row before hand.
#A book that helps organize for life (2006-11-24) My husband of 36 years asked for a divorce after informing me of a 3-week affair with a woman 4 years older who d already had quadruple bypass surgery. Go figure! Shock doesn t come close to describing my state. However, I was not so shocked that common sense didn t kick in -- two days later I ordered several books on Divorce, including Ms. Sember s: I needed to protect what I could for MY future. The Divorce Organizer & Planner came in good stead. With tears here and there, I worked those sections that were relevant to me (I didn t ...

Her marriage to retired Navy admiral John Perry seemed almost too good to be true. Because it was… At the start of her relationship with the intelligent and worldly John Perry, Barbara Bentley couldn’t believe her luck—so when things didn’t add up, she struggled to ignore her doubts. She kept trying to put the pieces together—unaware that some of them were simply missing. Even as he drained her credit, dodged her questions, manipulated her and misled her, she stayed with him, suppressing her growing suspicions. Ultimately he would try to kill her, proving himself not a protector and provider, but a predator. This is Barbara’s courageous, compelling story, in her own words—of the slow, choking darkness that fell after the honeymoon was over, what it took to finally drive her to escape and start her life anew, and her tireless efforts to protect other women and help them learn from her example.

#A gripping story (2008-11-14) Author, Barbara Bentley, gives us a firsthand look into the deceitful mind of a psychopath. She conveys the doubt and confusion of being married to and manipulated by such a person as only one who has lived it could. Ms. Bentley s determination in getting California s no-fault divorce law changed is truly inspirational. The reader can feel her confidence grow as she pursues her goal. I could not put this book down until the very last page. Alma J. MeyerShepherdsville, KY
#A page turner (2008-11-13) Picked it up and couldn t put down. It is well written and more than informative. A cautionary tale with a victorious finish. It reflects the old saying. Out of the mud grows a lotus. Barbara is an inspiration.
#Read my letter to the author... this book gave me courage (2008-11-13) Dear Barbara. . . I m dealing with a (possible) psychopath male, co-worker. A friend told me about your book and I read it in one evening! I ve sent a letter to Oprah (I ll share at the end). . . wanted you to know, yesterday I had courage to finally stand up to this co-worker, I m shaking in my boots, can hardly breathe and am constantly warding off tears, but by golly I am NOT going to be treated like this any more. Being he s in a position of authority and I m a widow, I was in fear of losing my job, based on...
#Heartfelt, genuinely inspiring, courageous, Barbara Bentley is an excellent writer... (2008-11-10) Reading is not my forte, however, I could not put A Dance With The Devil down. #Complete and thorough tutorial on making your disability claim a success (2008-04-30) This book helped me get my federal disability claim on my 2nd try. The author, a former federal employee for the Social Security department, explains in good detail the best way to file for your claim. He explains that the reason many filers get denied even though they have a valid claim is because they didn t have the right kind of documentation. What is the right kind of documentation? First of all, it must meet the medical wording guidelines of the Social Security Department. Has your medica...
