#Better than expected (2009-06-27) I bought this when my existing running watch decided to expire for no reason, and having a desire for a heart rate monitor and a passion for gadgets I thought I d give it a go at under £150. Reading some of the reviews I was concerned about running under trees and its ability to keep track, so deliberately tested it on my regular very tree covered route, and glad to report it functioned perfectly - and downloading the route into google earth showed it perfectly mapped, so I m extremely impressed. There s even a tunnel in the route which it seems to ...
#Up your pace (2009-06-04) The instructions for first time use were spot on and easy to follow. I havent used all the facilities on it yet but have found it brilliant for speed training, recording runs and making me run that little bit faster - as there is no longer any guesswork involved. Would recommend it to any runner.
#can t run without now! (2009-06-04) it is such a great, efficient and fun gadget. very useful for training as each session now is monitored. great for improving, for motivation. . . I love it , worth the money!
#Garmin gear is good gear (2009-05-24) Good product, quick and easy software, super quick delivery. Overall I m very happy. Once you have satellites (which can take a while) all is good - I just use the time to get a good warm up or stretch.
#Can t rate this highly enough (2009-05-11) Only bought this because my old New Balance training watch went on the fritz, but so glad it did because the Garmin provides so many features that I can t think how I managed without it before. Pro:HR MonitorGPS -I used to use gmapspedometer or runnersworld to workout distances for my routes and program these into my training logs, now I just go out for a run and let the device work it outProgrammable Workouts -Interval and tempo tempo runs are a dream, just program in the workout using the Training Centre software and the watch will give you ...

#Good product if everything works (2009-07-02) I was looking forward to using my forerunner 50 and could not wait use it. My first set back was the foot pod battery was completely drained! Not a problem a quick swap with the heart monitor battery and I was back in business again. Pairing the foot pod and watch was relatively easy with the help of manual. My first run was fine although after the run I had to re calibrate the foot pod as it gained 1/2 mile over my usual 5 mile run. This was easy to reset. The biggest problem I can not resolve is transferring data from the watch to ...
#Great product just what I wanted (2009-06-20) I have recently plunged myself into the world of outdoor running after on/off spells over a number of years of opting for the Treadmill alternative. I wanted to take on the new challenge and liked the idea of tracking my progress speed/distance etc etc as I had previously done on the Treadmill, so I bought the Forerunner 50 bundle from Amazon and wasn t let down. I did toy with the idea of getting the more expensive GPS enabled watches but couldn t justify the extra expense. So after some reasearch I opted for the FR 50. I must say on t...
#Useful traing aid (2009-06-01) This is a very useful tool for training, It took a bit of getting used to as does any new gadget. The software that is provided with it is very good for keeping track of you training, the maps provided are not of the highest quality. In fact for a GPS manufacturer, in my opinion, they are exceedingly poor, but I didn t purchase it for the mapping functionality. The foot pod is very good, its accuracy is not great, but supposedly this can be calibrated, which I haven t got round to yet. The foot pod does go through batteries rather quickly, but they ca...
#Good, but battery in footpod completely drained! (2009-05-28) This seems to be a good product, but imagine my partners excitement dwindling when she tried to set it up (whilst on holiday at Butlins) but couldn t use the footpod as it appeared broken. Upon returning home I discovered that the battery was completely dead!! The battery in the heart monitor was fine, showing a full 3V, but the foorpod was onlt showing 0. 04V!!! For a product that was opened from new this was disappointing.
#comes with dying batteries & not best for interval training (2009-05-25) I bought the forerunner 50 + footpod + heart rate monitor. I personally found the instructions easy to understand, and I m not the brightest person in the world. Everything is fairly simple and straight forward. Does everything it claims to. The problems with this item are more of an annoyance than any real major problems. Firstly, as other people have mentioned, the batteries that are supplied with it become flat fast. The foot pod battery died on me after 1 1/2 months of using it. Good side is when I cont...

#Forerunner 205 (2009-06-30) As only a beginner I can t stress how good this watch is. All the motivation you need when running, for instance on the way back from a run and you have clocked up 3. 5 miles it spurs you on to run 4 miles rather than finishing your run. A must for any runner no matter how poor/talented you are. The only down side I could find was that it can take a while to find a signal, sometimes 10 seconds othertimes 4 minutes
#Thr brilliant Garmin Forerunner 205 (2009-05-25) I brought the Forerunner 205 to train for my local half marathon. Downloading my training sessions, I could visually see where I slow, where I was fast and which average speed I could maintain. It allowed me to know how far if I was running on a new route and plan when to head back home. On the day of the half marathon, it stopped me setting off too fast and helped me notice when my speed was dropping off. The signal reception is superb with no loss of signal under tress and the display is clear and large enough to read when running....
#Excellent device (2009-05-25) I ve had this device for a year. I cannot fault it. Knocks the spots off the pedometers & ipod gizmos I ve used previously. I don t personally use all of the functions it offers, but have found the device to be configurable to suit personal taste. The only problem I have with device is that the USB drivers can be a bit flaky. Having said that I ve never lost data & have always been able to reinstall them. The device s output shows up nicely in Garmin training centre & there are many other applications you can use. Visual display of data in google ea...
#garmin forerunner 205 (2009-05-07) I recently purchased this item for my London Marathon and found it much more comfortable to wear than the 105 which was bulky and ugly in comparison and you also save money on batteries. It rarely loses its signal and fits like a glove.
#More effective training (2009-04-17) Great device. . . fits well, quick instructions make it so easy to use, does make you a bit obsessive about constantly looking at your pace( and often being a bit disappointed you re not as quick as you thought!) but certainly helps you formulate an improved run, i can run further because it s helped sort my pacing out. . . much improvement. i am sure all runners would benefit from it s use. Makes you a bit competitive!!

#One Step Forward, Two Steps Back (2009-06-16) I upgraded from a 205 which had an excellent user interface, good battery life, rich set of features and was very easy to use. My main reason for upgrading is that I wanted a heart rate monitor built in and liked the idea of a smaller unit with better GPS receiver. On balance I made an expensive mistake and wish I d just bought a cheap HRM to go with my 205. While the addition of the HRM is nice and the device is smaller, everything else about it is worse than before. The battery runs flat about twice as fast as before (you can t swi...
#Not plain sailing (2009-05-16) Very pleased with the GPS tracking to give pace whilst running. I haven t been able to get the software on my PC working yet which is a shame, but I ll persist and try again. The bezel is sensitive and I ve interrupted some timings and also even when locked it s still possible to stop the stop watch by accident. Also, the battery doesn t last long so I keep it on charge all the time which isn t eco friendly.
#Garmin 405 review (2009-05-10) I ve had my 405 for over a year now so have gone through all the seasons. I use it for running and will solely comment on its usability for suchGood points- practical, relatively simple operation- no need for strapped satellite receiver- does everything I want (set targets, virtual partner, regular splits, display pace) with no more than 1 bezel touch during runs (switch between time display and VP display)- have used as normal watch, slightly chunky but genuinely suitableBad points- really doesn t like getting wet, in winter caused real problems with...
#Great so far! (2009-05-08) I have actually never written a review but was compelled to do so after getting my Garmin FR 405. I received the Garmin FR 405 a few days ago after taking about 2 months to decide whether to get it! I have read over 100 reviews, some of which nearly scared me off getting it. I m glad I did. I m an amateur runner looking to improve and get a bit more serious about my timing and pace etc. The 405 gets the job done quite frankly. Yes, it s true, it is slightly counterintuitive in the way the bezel etc has been designed, but once you get used to it, it ...
#Completely impractical - avoid! (2009-05-07) I previously owned the 305 Forerunner, which was an excellent bit of kit. Unfortunately, it got damaged so I chose to replace it with the 405. What a mistake. The touch-sensitive bezel is a nightmare. Takes 10 minutes to do the simplest thing as you re always correcting a misinterpreted touch . Can you imagine trying to change something during a run? Would drive you mad. I also need to use this for Nordic skiing. The manual tells me it doesn t respond to a gloved hand. Useless - I d have to stop and de-glove everytime I wanted...

#My wife is thrilled with this gem! (2009-07-03) My wife has started running after getting herself in shape using an exercise bike and lateral thigh trainer. Her running is coming on a treat and I wanted to reward her efforts with a good quality training watch. We wondered initially if the face was a little too large for her wrist, but having set the watch-up on the first night and worn it when training ever since she is absoltely thrilled with it. It s reliable, easy to set-up and use, the digits are very clear and it looks the part when exercising.
#Garmin forerunner 50 (2009-07-01) Excellent product , great value for money good to know the batteries are easily replaced on both watch and heart strap . Agree with other reviews the software a little tricky but make sure you put the web address in excatly as the book says and it will take you straight to were you need to go , otherwise the garmin site will have you going around in cicles for days. If i can do it most people should have no problem just take it easy
#Pleased with this product (2009-06-29) I should point out that I am not a very serious sports person. I use the gym once or twice a week and do some outdoor running during the summer months, in preparation for a half marathon that I run every September. I wanted a cheap sports watch to record my times and this watch wasn t much more expensive than basic sports watches. The watch itself has been over-looked in most of the reviews. It s nice. Well. . . as black sports watches go, it s nice. Looks and feels better than most - and not too big on my skinny arms. And it has lots of f...
#Good, but oftware installation needs lateral thought (2009-06-27) I m not a professional athlete or obsessive fitness fanatic, but trying to get in shape and start a new routine, and so figured I needed a heart rate monitor. I had one previously - a Polar model. It s now a few years old, and the battery in the strap has now failed. Replacing it either means sending it back to Polar at a cost of around £30, buying an all-new strap at around the same price, or cutting open the original one, trying to find the battery, and then taping it back together. Instead, I spent about £35 on ...
#Garmin Forerunner 50 heart rate monitor (2009-06-24) I bought the Garmin Forerunner 50 with wireless sync and Personal heart rate monitor some months ago. It was my first foray into HRM, and i am more than happy with it. All three items are fairly sturdily built and quite robust. The Watch itself is easy to use and sync well with my computer . . . which then displays a simple and easy to read graph of your workout. I am extremely happy with this item and would recommend it to anyone. . . what a bargain at 29. 99
