Full Cycle s core members of Roni Size, Suv, Krust and Die spent six years sniping innovative twelves from their studios in Bristol before the majors finally started reaching for their chequebooks--Giles Peterson eventually clenching the deal for his well respected Talkin Loud. A couple of singles and a slew of remixes followed before this album was released to critical acclaim. Switching between the minimal to the full, oppressive to the inviting, New Forms nods its head to the jazz experimentation of the sixties. At the same time, it retains a cutting edge feel, proof that the sound of Full Cycle is, without any doubt, one of the most advanced operating within drum and bass. Share the Fall, captures the spirit of the whole album with harsh bass stabbing at clicked breaks and tumbling rolls, the trashily EQ d vocal slicing apart a strung out midsection and hazy atmospheres before the beats solo out to stalk individual members of the roaring crowd. As at home in a club as it is in a ...

#landmark nu-soul beats album (2008-11-30) this is a landmark british lp that deservedly won the prestigous mercury prize. New Forms was released in 1997 + STILL sounds totally ahead of 99pct of mainstream chart music : this has it all: great diva vocals, diverse beats, tempos + layers AND makes you wanna move/dance/go out-shock!. for less than £5 just buy + move yr ideas abt what british music IS or shouuld be now in 2008/9 : certainly not coldplay, sterophonics, oasis retro-rock thats for sure. .
#brillant (2008-09-07) i have to say i wasn t sure about roni size at first, after hearing things such as pendulum, i really didn t think that drum and bass could get any better. i was wrong. although in my opinion, new forms 2 is slightly better. i have to say with out a doubt new forms really is something special. roni size really has got one of the most inspiring d n b albums out there, and you would be foolish not to own this. it has to be said that unlike new forms 2 the tracks can take a while to get going, which can be slightly annoying, but it is definetly worth it. i am no...
#Patchy, but what wonderful patches (2007-03-13) As the first track declares: Yes, something of a different pace! I can t say I enjoy all the songs on the album. The chord structure and vocals on Share the Fall and Watching Windows could be stronger, and Mad Cat is two songs: one that is horrible and difficult to listen to overlaid onto a wonderful drum beat. But forget all that, the other songs are inventive and fantastic and Destination is probably one of the greatest songs in any genre. I listen to the Hospital Records podcast and unfortunately modern drum and bass has n...
#A legendary album...... (2005-03-08) New Forms (Reprazent) is the legendary jungle/drum & bass album released by DJ Roni Size and the full cycle label back in 1997. With the obvious exception of LTJ Bukem and Goldie this was the first official offering of what has become to be known as intelligent drum & bass and what a classic, pioneering album it was. And still is. Nearly ten years on and New Forms still provides deep, intelligent, atmospheric drum & bass listening and from a personal perspective takes me right back to the teenage years of the 1990 s. The album begins with the ...
#Still Fresh (2003-10-23) Bought this one the week it was released in 97, still listen to it today, how many D&B albums stand the test of time? Still love it!

It s been three years since Roni Size and his Reprazent crew created perhaps the greatest drum and bass album ever made, the Mercury Music Prize-winning New Forms. Since then there has been the sclerotic project Breakbeat Era and Krust s own Coded Language work, while drum and bass itself has become ever more hard and insular. It has also become more marginalised in the UK while its popularity overseas has inversely increased, embraced as a kind of electronic punk. All this is reflected in In The Mode--a harder, more international album. Method Man, The Roots Rhazel and Rage Against The Machine s Zack de la Rocha are employed for a transatlantic celebrity shine and the mood is less groove, more grind. At times the energy and gravity-defying twists and turns of Size s production is stunning but only Rahzel appears to be comfortable with Reprazent s shape-shifting beats. The rest are on auto-pilot (though check Meth s Lady Di lyric) and the soulfulness of UK singer Onalee appears to hav...

#Quality (2007-10-06) I have read a few not so good reviews, now. I would consider myself an all round music fanatic e. g. Soul, Jazz, Funk, Blues, Hip-Hop, Break Beats, ect. I only listen to music that I think is really well made or really personal, Not cheesy quick produced rubbish like Hardcore or alot of some hard dance produced now a days. I will admit a good tune when I hear it though. If you like good drum and bass and you hear a good track, well imagen lots of amazing tracks squeezed into 1 album. Soundz good then try this. If you are a drum and bass fan then it s a must,...
#mexican? (2001-08-20) I think that the album is pretty damn fine, but no-one has mentioned the awesome Mexican. Track 12, it is simply the finest piece of jungle music I have ever hear. Phat bass, a superlative beat and a quality hookline. Do u need any more?
#Different album... Different sound (2001-08-18) In The Mode seems to have ditched the drifty sound and style from New Forms and given their drum and bass a rap/lyrical overhaul, which is why many people would be disappointed after buying In The Mode as a follow up album. Because of this, the general reviews describe this album as being more of a let down than groundbreaking. The beats and lyrics come much faster and harder this time round, and the bass doesn t stop, making for a chaotic sound. I think purchasers/reviewers shouldn t compare this album to New Forms, but rather treat...
#Cyber Beat Warfare for the Next Genertation! (2001-03-07) ",In the Mode", does exactly what it says on the tin. . . Scared? Angry? Need to shake it to the most compelling beats yer ever gonna here (this year)?. . . Roni Size has grown up - the jazz funk of New Forms was beautiful, the anger here is real! Come on and get In The Mode. . . ",back to you - BABY!",
#Roni what went wrong?!?!?! (2001-01-21) When I first heard New Forms by Roni Size I was blown away. It was one of those few albums I d describe as ground-breaking - amazing stuff. I was excited to see a new Roni Size release, but what a disappointment! This album is absolute drivel. Indeed an audiophile friend took it back for a refund as soon as possible. I wish I could do the same. I ve read other reviews, where some claim you need a good hi-fi: I have such a machine and it still sounds pre-NewForms and terrible, talentless nonsense. The style is harder than New For...

#I call him Sun cos Roni shine like One... (2003-09-26) I totally felt this album. The feel of the album is proper from the Brown Paper bag to the New Forms title track (Bahamadia is on point on this track with the lyrical flow). Thats innovative for real. it s an album you could play for years and still feel that shudder, you know the one that hits you when the drums start. . . Roni man ya large
#Great debut CD from Reprazent (Roni Size) (2002-02-10) This is a bench mark CD for Reprazent headed by Roni Size, and is very well produced. It includes the classic Drum & Bass tune Brown Paper Bag which stands out as the best tune on the album. I recommend that if you like this, make sure you buy Roni Size, In The Mode which is definately an improvment on the first album and contains the bad ass lyrical gangsta MC Dynamite.
