#Canon Speedlite 430EX II review (2009-06-15) I ve had this product for a little over 6 months now and have been very impressed with the photos I ve been able to take, being able to angle the flash head to bounce light off walls, ceilings etc has given me some great photographic effects. One thing I was a bit disapointed about was not being able to use the speedlite remotely with the IR unit I have, I think I m going to have to buy a IR unit with built in channels compatible with the 430EX. Other than that I m very happy with it.
#430EX II review (2009-06-14) I bought this recently for a Canon 40D & have found it excellent both indoors (bounced or straight) or outdoors for fill flash. Its not too big or heavy, only has E-TTL or manual, but this is all you need. Nicely made as well & now features a locking metal mounting foot. Recommended.
#Just the right thing (2009-05-24) Bought for use with 450d camera+standard and super wideangle lenses. 40 EX II is a perfect choice when you don t need the power and featuresof 580 EX which is also bigger and heavier.
#Canon Speedlite 430 EXII (2009-05-11) I ve not had this flash for long, but I bought it to go with my EOS5D MkI. Its a nice substantial peice of kit, solid feel and not plasticky at all. It comes in a nice carry pouch as well which is not listed anywher in its selling blurb. It is quite amazing in all its features, and has an impressive range of light. I can thoroughly recommend it.
#Real person review (2009-05-08) I m into photography, Very amatuer but can take brilliant pics. got a 350D and wanted a speelite just in case for my friends wedding. After a late night comparing ALL the various main market products (Canon, Sigma Jessops) I made a decision on this 430EX. The reason. . . . It isn t as good as the Sigma for light strength (guide No. value) but is plenty strong enough, it has illuminated screen, communicates with your Canon camera to supply lens info etc. can be used as a remote slave or via a wire from the camera (handy if ya want to do arty farty ...

#Also packed up after 6 months - but don t buy from SwAk ! (2009-03-16) Nice flash, bought it from market seller SwAk and this also packed up after 6 months. Beware of SwAk - after directing me to the Nikon website, they simply ignored all my subsequent emails. And Amazon can t help, in fact they keep taking my warnings off the reviews ! So watch out !
#don t buy it (2008-12-13) after six months it packed up. it tries to do more than it is able to.
#In case you were in doubt - buy the Nikon Sb-600 (2008-09-29) In case you were in any doubt, the Nikon SB-600 is the flash to buy for your Nikon D-SLR! The highlights:- Well made, quality feel. Nicely balanced on my Nikon D40- Enough power to light every subject I have thrown at it- Auto I-TTL setting makes fill-in flash easy - Managed over 250 shots on one set of rechargeable batteries - Team it with a Sto-fen omnibounce for soft shadows - The light it produces seem quite warm for a flash
#Still great after all these years (2008-08-15) I ve had this flash unit well over a year and it is only recently that I ve learnt to understand its true potential and how to get it, which are bounced flash and off-camera wireless remote flash. Firstly, the flash head can tip up 90 degrees as well as swivel up to 180 degrees anti-clockwise, i. e. the flash head facing backwards and 90 degrees clockwise. These two movements allows me to shoot bounced flash with the flash unit attached to the camera, in both landscape and portrait position, and it produces perfect exposure every time....
#Excellent (2008-08-08) Bought this to use on my D300 and even though like the last reviewer I am relatively new to photography (and even newer to flash photography) I find this item easy to use straight from the box. It comes with a nice Nikon branded case and a stand for use off camera The inbuilt flash can be used to fire this Speedlight remotely, very clever. It is infinitely better than the inbuilt flash and gives stunning flash lit photography. There is so much you can do with this unit that it can be quite a steep learning curve to get the best from it, but the manual (strangel...

580 EX Speedlite (Guide No 58m @100 ISO) flash unit (also compatible with PowerShot G series and PowerShot Pro 1)

#Canon 580EX II (2009-06-19) This upgrade to an already excellent product is very good indeed. Small improvements such as the locking hot-shoe attachment right through to the increadible continuous flash rate make this a real winner. One small criticism is some loss of control, as some operations that were on flash, can now only be performed through the camera menus. If you can use rapid flash (and who can t), this is worth relegating your old 580 to backup status.
#Perfect for advanced user (2009-06-03) I am not a pro, but this thing is just amazing. I don t know yet how to use it properly, as I am a beginner. I did some test shots with it, without it and with it pointing up. The pics with this flash are just awesome! The only thing I got here, as well as on my Canon 40d, which I got from Amazon too- is the LCD screen spots (leaks or whatever you call it). I am too lazy to return both so I keep it as it is. I love them both so this doesn t disturbs me a lot.
#almost perfect (2009-04-27) this isn t your occasional use on-camera party flash gun. It,s a full featured light machine that will become the keystone for a lighting system. For less heavyweight duties go with the 430 (I have one of those too and that too is excellent) but for future-proofing and possible expansion pay the extra and buy this one. One small niggle that I have though is that by definition this machine will be used in the dark occasionally but the LCD to change settings doesn t light up until you actually press the (rather small) button for the back-light. As a fully-f...
#Excellent - once you get to know it s quirks. (2009-04-15) I ve had two of these 580EX II s for the last year and I use them regularly for off-camera lighting. Once the wow factor has been dispelled, you re down to the nitty-gritty of regular usage issues. I can offer the following personal experiences that may be of value to you :1. The flash gun consistently underexposes by 2/3 --> 1 stop when you use your camera in M mode with ETTL. You must be 100% comfortable with FEC, as you will have to ride the dial continually. I usually have my FEC set to +1 as a default, and lower or...
#Brilliant flashgun in more ways than one. (2009-04-14) I use this coupled to a Canon 1Ds Mk3 and all I can say is, if you own a Canon DSLR of any description. . . you will benefit by owning this flashgun to a greater or lesser degree, obviously depending on the capabilities of your particular model camera. It feels very solidly built. When attached to your cameras hot-shoe there is absolutely no free play. It is located by a pin which locks into the hot shoe when you turn the locking lever, meaning whichever position you use your camera in there is no possibility of the flashgun be...
