For a lens with a maximum of 300mm focal length it is quite compact and is easy to use hand held, the image stablizer works quite well in all but poor light conditions. Auto focus although generally good can be a bit hit and miss at times, searching back and forth to find the focus for a few seconds, but it usually focuses well in the end, it does work a lot better in bright light conditions though. I have used the lens in a wide variety of conditions and have yet to find reason to complain about anything of substance. #Very very good alround lens (2007-06-18) I have been using this lens for some time now with my EOS 300D and have been really happy with the results, I have used it in all types of lighting conditions, indoors and out and as long as you take these into account this lens will perform really well. I ordered this lens at the same time as a Nikon D80 and another lens (which was delivered by a different seller). #Did not auto focus (2009-03-28) Although the lens is advertised as a Nikon Af there was no information as to which Nikon cameras auto focus will not work, the popular D60 is one. I had to return it and purchase another lens.

Really superior to the kit lens with EOS 100D. Light in weight, but does not feel fragile. IS is very useful at 250mm. AF is quick and responsive to scene. The detail and colour balance produced by this lens is excellent. It certainly is not an expensive lens - but the performance far outweighs the cost. I am a very delighted amateur.
