Emprex MediaBox with Card Reader and USB

#Basic player BUT... (2009-05-06) I only wanted this box to output pics from my SLR s SD card to my monitor (HP W1907) as a decent alternative to those overpriced digital picture frames with crazy low resolutions! Major problems for me to do this. 1) Only outputs 640 X 480. Whatever you do that s what it sends out. If you have a widescreen monitor, the picture will be streched. This is usually not noticable on landscape / flowers / scenery etc but try it with some family pics of loved ones and you ll see the distortion easily. 2) The slideshow is clumsy. There is no randomise fun...
#Simple player that will do the job (2009-04-20) Very simple interface and remote. The display of the file names etc. , is not very nice as it will not show the complete name. Also, it will not play from USB devices that are self powered i. e. , a passport type USB hard drive that is usually powered when connected to the computer. Other than that it seems to play most common formats anyway and also supports forward and rewind unlike specified in one of the other reviews. You just need to know how to use the remote.
#Does what it says on the tin (2009-04-12) Allows me to view photos, play music and watch videos on my TV. The remote control is very basic but you can have the basic functions as an on screen menu. With its easy set up and small design this has proven to me to be well worth the money and i would recommend it highly.
#emprex media box (2009-04-01) Overall happy with productDoes what it says on the tinA little selective with avi files - plays most downloaded films but not DVD fab decryptor x vids ??You can fast forward avi s up to 20* - as per previous reviewSeems to read all my powered and flash drives OK but information on screen is limitedSuggest using AVI net for conversion as all files appear to play oK as xvid or divx6Overall reasonable value for money if you download a lot of vids
#Good, but reservations (2009-03-09) There have been a few reviews of this product which seem inaccurate based on my experience. Firstly, you CAN rewind and fast forward films, it s just a bit fiddly to do. Secondly, I haven t yet found a file it won t play. The main draw for this product is that you can plug in an external HDD to the USB slot and play the files stored on the HDD. I ve had mixed luck with this. Firstly, the device only supports FAT16/FAT32 drives, so if yours is NTFS you can forget it. You d need to reformat, and that s not easy as modern versions of Windows do...

Emprex Hi Def Media Player and Recorder

#Good, stable media player and recorder (2009-01-16) IntroductionThe ME1 performs two core functions well (recording and playing) without problems. If you have looked at the market place in detail some of the more popular devices do not even achieve one of these without problems and cost over twice the price. Playing MediaI have now digitised some of my DVDs to a PC as ISO files on a windows share and this plays them perfectly - no drop outs, no pauses, no problems. I have a decent wired network. It may sound obvious, but playing media from the network will only work on a proper ...
#great but.... (2009-01-01) Great item, upgrade a must as will now play dvd iso`s !. . . . usb is fast, remote control a little fiddily, ethernet port is a waist of time as can only strem from pc and you cant use port to accsess device from pc :(
#good product (2008-11-29) I bought one of these and installed a 500gb drive for plenty of storage, was going to go for a normal external hard drive, but spotted these media players that can serve both as a hard drive and a media player for my lounge. Ive had no problems with it yet, apart from remote being very directional. Ive wired it up to my surround av amp in the lounge to play my extensive music collection and its great for that. photos look good through the hi-def output. all in all very happy
#Good in parts - but some annoyances (2008-10-06) Firstly the good things:The picture quality when playing back DivX movies, which is solely what I m using it for, is excellent. I am using the component outputs, as I have an HD TV. The picture is crisp and full of detail, and with no juddering, as one sometimes gets playing the same file off a DVD or CD. The playback is better quality than my Humax HD recorder. The installation of the HD is very simple, and worked faultlessly. It has no trouble playing back movies from any source on my network - all with great picture quality. The ...
#Brilliant Product (2008-09-30) I ve had this unit for around 8 months now, and it s now become an essential part of our living room. Easy to download to and play, the upgraded firmware on the internet is a definite must. What I hadn t realised about this unit is the massive fan base on the internet. Typing Emprex ME1 into a popular search engine should reveal a blog, Google Group and forum dedicated to the unit, which is apparently visited by one of the Emprex UK managers. Very useful. Little notes. . . the remote is appalling, however it seems there s possible interoperability ...
