It provides a soft rest for the wrist and forearm as you type, and I use mine as a place to rest my elbow sometimes when reading on screen and leaning forward. #Very quick! (2009-02-21) This pad is very fast, faster even than the so-called speed version. This is due to texture, the feet are in less contact with the mouse feet than the speed version so less friction. Going from a dirty old basic mousepad to this was a relevation, I had to lower my ingame sensitivity by more than half :)If you want to improve your gameplay I figure after purchasing this that a good mousepad is more important to your game than a 5000 dpi or whatever mouse you`ed care to buy. #This product does not work properly with Optical Mice (2008-09-18) Although the product is comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, because of the shiny fabric used for the actual surface you move the mouse about on, it works less than effectively with optical mice. Small movements are fine, but if you want something that tracks large mouse gestures accurately this product is really not for you. I ll either cut off the mouse surface altogether, or possibly stick on an alternate, less shiny surface.
