#It s a permanent fixture on my D60 (2009-06-12) My favourite focal lengths on my 35mm film cameras used to be 28mm and 20mm. When I worked with John Claridge as his assistant, I often used to wish I could afford the 15mm Nikkor that he used so often. Now this Sigma gives me 15 - 30mm [equiv] and I m pleased as can be. If I was asked to spec a focal length range for a wide zoom, this is exactly it. The drawing you get from lenses from 30mm and wider gives the kind of interest I m looking to produce in my pictures. It s immediately made itself my default lens and max-wide tends to be...
#New perspective! (2009-06-02) This lens is amazing for 2 reasons. 1) It has to do with the focal range. 10mm (or 16mm for 35mm equivelant) is a whole new world to photography. Even if quality wasnt good (which it is), this attribute alone makes this lens an necessary addition to a photographers bag. Close spaces, buildings, even people become completely different than what you think. 2) Image quality is top. You dont have to worry about focus or sharpness @ wide open, this lens is good at all possible settings. Build quality is excellent also. Flare is well controlled, i can find...
#A quality lens providing fantastic results (2009-04-23) Had been looking for a wide angle lens to complement the existing standard lens on the Canon 40D. This one seemed to be well reviewed and good value for money. It has absolutely met and exceeded expectations and the results are excellent. Very pleased.
#Excellent Lens (2009-04-15) This lens is a great addition to a Nikon DSLR kit. Takes stunning photos of landscapes and interiors. Only possible drawback is that it is rather heavy (much heavier than the Nikon 18-55 DX Zoom for example). But I m very happy with it, and would recommend it others (works well with my Niokon D60).
#An almost brilliant lens but not quite (2009-01-31) I m not going to go on about every single detail about this lens but only to say that you shouldn t shoot against the sun because if you do, and regardless of the f/stop you use, the result won t please you: there is too much ugly flare in all shapes, sizes and colours and the non-round blades will project ugly sun rays all over the place. However, if you steer away from the sun, stop it down a bit and use a good tripod you may take some excellent, razor-sharp images. And all this for a fraction of the price of the original brand s ...

An ultra wide-angle zoom lens with dynamic expressive capabilityfor all EF-S mount EOS cameras, exceptionally small and lightweightfor maximum mobility.

#Excellent (2009-02-12) I had mostly owned kit lenses before I bought this. That meant I found the improvement in image quality remarkable. It s wide enough to capture three walls of most normal sized rooms, and it gives a remarkable level of detail (I could read titles of books on bookcases even in the corner of the image on the widest setting). It also feels right in the hand. The controls are smooth with no play. I ve not owned an L series lens so can t make comparisons, but I doubt that an enthusiastic amateur with a 1. 6 sensor DSLR could hope for a wide angle lens better than...
#I absolutely adore this lens (2008-12-10) I absolutely adore this lens. Given the very wide angle you can pull off some very creative shots with this it. It is a fantastic portrait lens, allowing you to get close to the subject whilst still having a lot of the background visible. The close minimum focus distance of only 24cm is a great and very useful feature! It also works really well when used for Astophotography! I have taken some absolutely stunning pictures with this lens aimed at the nighy sky!Very low distortion from this lens even at its widest, its not an L series lens but it...
#A great wide angle lens (2008-04-01) I own this lens since a month now and I can only say waouh. . . I ve never use so wide a lens before (28mm was the lowest I ve used before) but it s a revelation. I corroborate previous comments, the lens is sharp at all apertures, there is almost no barrel distorsion even at 10mm wide open. It was perfect for snow pictures a couple of weeks ago. Only downsize is the lack of a hood as commented previously and if you want to use a UV filter you need a slim one wich add to the cost. And if you want a polariser it s even worse.
#EF 10-22 My View (2008-03-12) Having had this lens for a couple of weeks now I can only echo the good things others have said here. It s a joy to use and if you want/need wide angle on an APS-C then this seems to be as good as it gets. I use this in conjuction with Tamron s 18-250 and for me this combination covers all the bases to the extent that I don t even bother taking my other lens out with me now. I m sure that will change when I ve got the pennies together for a 17-55 but in the meantime. . . . . . . . . . I ve seen a couple of negative comments re the fact that the len...
#Excellent super-wide solution for EF-S mount (2007-04-21) This lens was created to fill the hole in Canon s range for a super wide angle lens for their range of EF-S mount DSLR s. Fortunately, since it inhabits a unique position in the range, it is a superb lens and there is no real alternative (from Canon anyway) that covers the same focal lengths. It s not an L lens so don t expect weather sealing and and lens pouches/lens hoods in the box. Do expect a very well built lens with excellent image quality. The lens has a very close minimum focusing distance of 24 cm which can be useful ...

Compact proportions with a powerful zoom range of 11x – makean ideal general-purpose zoom for photographers on the go. Greatlow-light performance is assured by a 4-stop Image Stabilizer.

#A great general purpose lens (2009-03-19) I recenltly purchased the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3. 5-5. 6 IS as a replacment for the EF-S 18-55mm f/3. 5-5. 6 kit lens that came with my Canon EOS 450D. The build quality is very good especially compared to kit lens which feels a lot cheaper by comparison. The auto focus speed is reasonable, IS is excellent and the wide focal length zoom range very useful. I see that a lot of people are compaining about the lens self-extending under its own weight. It personally doesn t bother me too much. Holding the zoom ring in place does the job. Plus...
#Canon 18-200mm (2008-11-16) Canon have at last created a genuine all purpose lens. The image quality is first rate for a lens with this range but there are some misgivings. The lens does extend and retract under its own weight when pointed up or down though this will not be a problem for me and there is a lens lock to stop this happening in transit. The centre image quality is excellent though needs stopping down a little for edge sharpness. I would heartily recommend this lens as a holiday/ General purpose lens but the cost is rather high and it is definitely no L lens. The IS i...
#Good lens...does what it should. (2008-11-14) I m only writing this to correct any mis-representation in previous reviews. Some people only write to complain. . . and aren t using the product correctly. This is a compromise lens, designed to cover a wide and commonly used focal range. As such it can t be optically perfect but for the majority of peoples needs I believe it does the job superbly. I m more than impressed with its optical performance. What it does provide is convenience and speed, great for taking those opportunist pictures that all too often seem to vanish whi...
#Cano 18-200mm Zoom Lens self-extends under its own weight (2008-11-05) When pointing this lens directly downwards, and if the lens is set to any greater telephoto setting than 24mm, the weight of the lens itself causes it to fall out to closer to its maximum telephoto setting. If pointed directly upwards, a similar reaction is triggered at any telephoto setting less than about 140 - it falls in to about 24, all by itself!Anticipating that this was just a one-off faulty lens, I returned it to Jessops, in Birmingham, who had a new replacement Canon 18-200mm lens which they swapped f...

#Excellent lens - probably worth more than the cost, given the quality of result (2009-04-01) I have used Canon camera for years. This lens replaces a previous 28-85mm walkabout, and is definitely both clearer in result and better in range. It is not an L glass lens, and cannot be compared to an IS lens either. But at the price, in normal light, it is absolutely excellent.
#Good general lens. (2008-06-12) I bought one of these from a well known auction site for about £80. It s a good all rounder and gives me a bit more scope than my nifty fifty EF-50mm. I ve produced some really good photos from it with great colour and detail. Agree with other reviewers about it excelling when it s stopped down, it does take a while to figure out how to get the best from it. Generally very happy with this lens.
#Agree with previous reviewer!! (2008-05-15) Yep, exactly what he said about quality. Stop it down and it s ultra-sharp. Bit of an odd-ball focal length on a crop body as a walk-round lens, but I find it brilliant for candid work and even close-ups of plants, flowers etc. Produces very nice bokeh too. I like the build quality - very solid. I gave this one to the mrs when I got my 70-200 and she loves it as well. I think I want it back now!!!
#Very Good Lens (2008-03-10) The build quality (both look and feel) of this lens is far superior to the stock lens supplied with the 400D. Since purchasing this lens I ve had little need to use the stock lens for wider angle shots but I still carry the stock lens around just in case. This lens focuses very quickly and is very sharp. I ve used it for landscape, action and macros and have had extremely good results in all areas. If you want to step up from the stock lens and you are on a budget, then this lens is a very good choice. A very pleasant surprise comes out of the box. A le...
#Cheap USM lens - brilliant. (2008-02-12) This is the first USM lens i have owned for my Canon EOS 400D. Before i bought it i was a bit dubious as to how much the USM would add, but now all of my non-USM (all of them damn it) lenses seem slow and laboured when auto-focusing. Plus, all the focusing is internal (same with all USMs) so never gets longer when focusing (I didn t realise this until bought it. . . maybe that s just me). It does make it slightly heavier but if you want a light camera you probably shouldn t have an SLR anyway. . . As for the actual lens, great addition to ki...

#the only genuine nikon solution for ultrawide on a DX camera (2007-11-10) excellent lens and indeed more pro-like than amateur-like in price but also in specs. The new 14-24 promises to be one helluva lens for the full frame D3, but its premium price is no match for the 12-24 wich is DX only. If you re buying a D3 and don t already have the 17-35 2. 8, the 14-24 will be the better solution since it also is decent on DX, otherwise, if you don t go pro with a D3, the 12-24 is excellent (and still can be used on the D3 although with obly half of the pixels). You obviously don t have t...
#Premium ultra-wide zoom (2007-08-17) Tamron, Tokina and Sigma all make Nikon-fit ultra-wide zooms in the 12-24 range or thereabouts, and all of them are at least a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than the Nikon. For most purposes all three are more than satisfactory. However, for the last drop of quality, this lens outperforms them all. A little history:In introducing the D1 digital camera, which set the scene for the new generation of digital SLRs, Nikon opted for an APS-C sized sensor, which is smaller than traditional 35mm film, and gives a crop factor of 1. 5, which effectivel...
