Western Digital s tech support were helpful in responding and have explained the problem but can t solve it. #Caution using WD Sync Software (2009-07-03) I use it as a simple external drive and I am very pleased with it. I am no expert, but I have heard of people experiencing problems using the Sync Software. As the name suggests, this software deletes data on the Passport which has been deleted on the computer hard drive - hence it should not be used as backup software. Luckily I learned of this before my usual habit of diving in without fully understanding the features. So I have not installed the sync software.
