#Not exactly a review (2008-10-28) I was just getting into the album when I switched to disc two, whereupon I discovered a female singer from what sounded like the 1950 s. Apparently, although the art on the disc is for Nostradamus, the content is something entirely different. So rather than a review, this is a warning to those who might be giving this as a gift for Christmas - save the packing slip, you might need it. Amazon has always been exceptional when it comes to defective merchandise, so I don t expect that I, or anyone else, will have a problem with the return.
#breathtaking (2008-09-17) THIS IS A MASTERPIECE. I CAN NOT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD. THAT IS WHAT A GOOD METAL BAND DOES. THAT IS WHAT PRIEST DOES OVER AND OVER DECADE AFTER DECADE ALBUM AFTER ALBUM. THIS IS A 10. 5 FOR ME AND I OWN EVERY TITLE OF THEIR MUSIC. THANKS GUYS AND WE WILL SEE YOU ON THE HIGHWAY!!!!
#Metal Gods (2008-07-18) Nostradamus (Super Deluxe Boxset)The two previous reviews have it right. As an older fan who has followed Judas Priest from the early 80 s, this album is a welcome relief from the dirth of power chord only nu metal and shock rock which requires little or no musical virtuosity. Priest have proven themselves over the years and a concept is nothing new to older Rock fans and for a major band to produce one today is risky. For the skeptical, please listen to this album in it s entirety. It s not the type of album that is a all catchy hooks and chorus. The music...
#A monumental pasterpiece! (2008-07-11) Judas Priest is one of the most talented heavy metal bands. They started almost 40 years ago with a mixture of hard rock and progressive rock, then turned to heavy metal, speed metal, whatever they call it. They are so diverse, it is difficult to define their style. None of their albums look alike, each and every one of them is different. They always try new things, and, besides Turbo, never failed. But with Nostradamus they have outdone themselves. Nostradamus is metal opera, and at the same time, vintage Priest. I don t think Rob Halford...
#Amazing -but not for every metal fan. (2008-06-29) Every once a while comes along something memorable. If you love music, whether it be Araya s scream, Nile s wall of sound, Chopin s touch or Beethoven s genius, you ll be left moved in complete adoration with this release. If however, you re still at the stage of only enjoying the speed and anger that metal provides so well, if different genres leave you cold and unimpressed, than wait some other year to get this. It is heavy in intent, in sound, but not with anger. It isn t Screaming for Vengeance, it s actually much deeper and muc...

The guitar riff from Breaking the Law is one of the most recognizable from early 1980s heavy metal. Though British Steel sounds dated these days, it s also a classic slice of metal, one of the best from a band that defined the genre in the late 70s and early 80s. Everything that ultimately became characteristic of heavy metal is here, from the lightning-fast riffs on Rapid Fire, the anthemic Metal Gods, and United to the obligatory party song Living After Midnight to the equally obligatory youth-rebellion song, You Don t Have to Be Old to Be Wise. British Steel is unquestionably Priest at their peak. The 2001 remastered reissue includes two bonus tracks--a previously unavailable studio selection called Red, White & Blue and a live take on Grinder. --Genevieve Williams

#",Pounding the world like a battering ram", (2004-07-16) The track ",Grinder", is a perfect description of British Steel. Most of the songs off Judas Priest s first release of the 1980s sound like guitars thrown in a grinder. Those who know this album chiefly by the two singles ",Breaking the Law", and ",Living After Midnight", will be surprised at how non-commercial the rest of this album is. Rob Halford, through much of the 1980s, called British Steel the best Judas Priest album. As a fan of 1980s Priest, I d give the nod to Screaming for Venge...
#Not quite all it s made out to be, but still good. (2004-05-20) While many other reviewers call this the greatest album ever. Screaming For Vengeance and Ram It Down, in my opinion, are better. The first side is better than the second. The songs are less commercial and more hard-walloping. Rapid Fire, the opening track, is the perfect metal anthem with the line ",Pounding the world like a battering ram",. The next song, Metal Gods, is slightly less heavy, but still great. Breaking The Law is a great song with an awesome video. Grinder and United are cool, too. This is ...
#Possibly the Greatest Metal Album of All Time!! (2004-05-18) If you like heavy metal, hard rock, guitar rock, or any other one of the endless names given to late 70 s / early 80 s rock n roll you have to own British Steel. This album alone shows where rock stood in the dying days of disco and what was to come with spandex sporting Eddie Van Halen wannabe s focusing more on cans of hair spray than guitar work. Judas Priest (the original line-up and not the karaoke years with Ripper as singer) is one of the greatest bands of all time, and British Steel is one of thier best albums. Yo...
#Metal classic (2004-05-11) If you bought only two Judas Priest records, they would have to be Unleashed in the East (1979), Screaming for Vengeance (1982), and this 1980 debut of the most successful line-up, including Dave Holland on drums and Tom Allom as producer. There is no filler here, and Priest does a great job of actually executing the intent of Stained Class - to create a complete heavy metal record covering all the subgenres - pop metal (",Living After Midnight",, the first bona fide hits and videos), goth (",Metal Gods",), speed (",Rapid Fire"...
#Second Best to Defenders Of The Faith (alongside SC) (2004-05-07) On British Steel, Priest finally broke through in the US. Les Binks left and Dave Holland came aboard(not the best move), but still the album kicks A**! From Metal classics like, ",Metal Gods",, ",Rapid Fire",, and ",Steeler", to anthems such as ",living After Midnight",, ",United", and Breaking The Law, this album owns!!!

#Rock in 2000? (2004-07-12) Ram it Down and Turbo were the first 2 Priest albums i was introduced to. To a guy who grew up with Guns n Roses and Metallica in the late 80s early 90s- this album and Turbo seemed to fit in with the mindless power and aggression that GnR and Metallica had and fit in well. In fact i felt that Ram it down and Turbo were so good that i went on to collect many more Priest albums, sin after sin all the way to the live in london set. With a Band like Judas Priest, any CD with Halford in the lead just totaly rocks for me. Just dont bother with the Ripper ye...
#UNDERRATED AS HELL (2004-07-07) THIS IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED HEAVY METAL ALBUMS. I CAN T FOR THE LIFE OF ME UNDERSTAND WHY NO ONE LIKES THIS ALBUM. IT S EVERYTHING METALHEADS HAD HOPED FOR AFTER THE SLICK-SOUNDING TURBO. IT S FAST, IT S LOUD, IT S OBNOXIOUS AND VIOLENT. IN OTHER WORDS, THIS IS A GREAT METAL ALBUM. ALSO THE COVER PACKS A HARD PUNCH (NO PUN INTENDED). THE PRIEST BOYS PAY HOMAGE TO THE MOST DAZZILING OF MUSICAL STYLES IN HEAVY METAL , AND DO COVERS OF CHUCK BERRY SONGS, (JOHNNY B GOOD). THIS IS THE MOST SEVERELY UNDERRATED ALBUM IN ALL OF HEAVY ME...
#Not the comeback we hoped for (2004-05-11) After the debacle that was Turbo (1986), Priest returned to the studio with a lot of edgier tracks left over from those sessions. Also returning for the last time were long-time producer Tom Allom and drummer Dave Holland, who were both present when Priest s prime years began with British Steel (1980). Unfortunately, speed metal (Metallica, Slaywer, etc. ) had become the ",in", thing in the hardcore metal crowd, so attempts to repeat the success of previous efforts with metal-lite tunes like ",I m a Rocker",, ",J...
#Most Underrated Album Ever (2004-05-03) After Priest made a more slick, poppy sound on Turbo, they bounced back with their heaviest album to date. It screams, punches, roars, and howls. Rob s voice is very schreechy on this album-YIPPEE!! Although Blood Red Skies does have some synth effects, it is still one of Priest s best songs. Many did not like this album at the time of its release, saying it was kind of filler. Nothing could be further from the truth. Nothing is filler about it. it is all very heavy, very metal-centric music. It is very good.
#getting heavier (2004-03-29) so after slow cd of turbo, priest came out with concert video fuel for life tour from dallas,tx in 1987 was when i first watched the video. when you watch this concert video, you will know that the priest is back and better and heavier then ever before with ear piecing high vocals and deep low vocals incredibal guitars and this proves priest is heavy metal. so when i got ram it down,i knew priest was gonna be alot heavier than ever before and they were. judas priest was at the time in the summer of 88 alot more heavier than ever before, that cd was king durin...

After releasing Screaming for Vengeance in 1982, Judas Priest began a creative slide from which they ve never recovered. However, if you re going to be remembered for something, it might as well be a record as heavy, incisive, and melodic as Screaming. The disc features the band s biggest hit, You ve Got Another Thing Coming, a sonic inferno that is as hook-laden as it is heavy. But the album also contains uncompromising turbo-blasts such as the title track and the steely Electric Eye. Throughout, Rob Halford growls and sings in a voice that could at high volumes kill rodents and small dogs, and guitarists K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton unleash their arsenal of inspired and engaging riffs. Classic. The 2001 remastered reissue includes two bonus tracks--a previously unavailable studio extra called Prisoner of Your Eyes and a live take on Devil s Child. --Jon Wiederhorn

#Thunderbolt from Hell shattering aloud (2004-07-16) After much pondering, I ve decided that Screaming for Vengeance is my favorite Judas Priest album-edging out Stained Class, Defenders of the Faith, and British Steel. This 1982 release is one of their most solid albums and the best tracks on this album are also THE best Priest tracks of all time. Hellion/Electric Eye (the first track being a short instrumental introduction to the second) is classic Priest. Electric Eye is my all-time favorite Judas Priest song! The haunting lyrics, the verses that build up to the chorus, the kil...
#A Metal Masterpiece (2004-06-22) You have to OWN ",Screaming for Vengeance",. This album showcases one of the greatest bands of the 70 s & 80 s (and hopefully with the newly reunited Priest of the 2000 s?!) I see other reviewers have tried to do a song by song rundown of the tracks on this disk, I won t even attempt that. The entire album is a guitar driven dream, Glenn Tipton and K. K. Downing are truly Metal Gods! And the fantastic vocals by Rob Halford make ",Vengeance", on of the greatest rock albums of all time! This was the golden age of metal for Priest and if...
#Priest s finest hour (2004-06-21) In the Summer of 1982, English hard rockers Judas Priest released their most successful album entitled Screaming for Vengeance. This album was produced by Tom Allom(whom had produced their previous two offerings, 1980 s British Steel and 1981 s Point of Entry) and was recorded in Spain and Florida. This album still sounds great today(in 2004) especially Rob Halford s singing, which was just smoking on this album. From the classic opening The Hellion/Electric Eye medley(which had one of Rob Halford s best lead vocal performances ever as he sings in a...
#Best Priest Album (2004-05-31) Well, this, in my opinion, must be JP s greatest LP. The awesome intro to the album with Hellion leading right into Electric Eye is dominating at first, but then you drive right into some equally massive tunes. After riding on the wind, a mediocre song, you are blown away by Bloodstone, with a super intro riff and a great chorus, thanks to rob, but that is just the beginning. (Take These)Chains is a great song, as is Pain and Pleasure (awesome guitar), but then the cd climaxes with such great tunes as the MTV favorite You ve Got Another Thing Comin, th...
#SCREAMING, SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE! (2004-05-28) Another hard-whacker from Priest! Now, we all know that Judas Priest are the Metal Gods, and are one of the best bands out there. But on this they are THE best band out there. Sheer, sheer heaviness is exhibited on this album. Everything fits perfectly. Rob s vocal talents lay perfectly on top of KK and Glenn s guitars. Also, the bass and drums are some of the best in rock, let alone metal history. Like somebody wrote on a list, Electric Eye is probably the album s standout track. With that guitar intro, how could you go wrong? Th...

#epic (2004-07-14) Given the recent reunion and the fact that a whole new generation is being turned on to the brilliance of this band, it makes complete sense to have released this expansive and mind-blowing collection. Yes, die hard fans probably have a lot of this stuff already, but this is a definitive collection for those who want it all and want it now!
#A ridiculous waste of money (2004-07-01) The potential of box sets to draw in a naive fan to buying unnecessary compilations like this is a serious threat. There are hardly any bsides or bonus tracks like those on the reissues, and material from Sad Wings of Destiny is scarce and nearly nonexistent (you would think that with all the money Priest could just buy out Gull records by now). Packaging like this is cynical and manipulative, and if you re already a hardcore fan, unneccesary obviously. The Iron Maiden box set was at least unreleased live material (however repetitious muc...
#HOW COULD YOU GO WRONG? (2004-06-26) Just brilliant from the eighties studded belt surround to the gloriousness of the Priest s musical legacy this is a triumph hands down. I didn t think that Metal Works could be topped but they did it. I ve read some reviews that critise the packaging but I think it is way cool and it doesn t feel like its going to fall apart anytime soon. The booklet is simplistic and perhaps could have included more input from band members but is fine just to flick through as you listen to the music. Remastered and jaw droppingly so, it is the music that fills t...
#Primarily the Halford years and better for it (2004-06-17) I enjoy everything about this box set. The music of JUDAS PRIEST s METALOGY offers enough variety in their signature sound to allow for a listening ",session", longer than just one cd s worth. The sequence of tracks moves through slow to breakneck recordings of their best loved album hits, with live unreleased and cover tunes interspersed (a heavy metal rendition of Joan Baez s Diamonds and Rust (!) as well as Fleetwood Mac s The Green Manalishi of the Two-Pronged Crown originally strummed by Peter Green) helping to...
#Proud Of The Metal!!!! (2004-06-16) I never was a huge JP fan. They were placed below Iron Maiden, KISS and Black Sabbath on my Heavy metal list, but after listening to the music and watching the dvd I suddenly remembered how cool these guys are! The dvd in particular is mind blowing, showing how tight the band is and putting to rest the debate on who the greatest metal front man is, Rob Halford - hands down. When he does the robot walk in Metal Gods the 38 year old me laughed out loud but the 16 year old metal head inside me thought is was freakin cool! I was at the show in Dallas...
