#Enjoyable for parents and children! (2008-07-10) This disc is an entertaining romp with the Barenaked Ladies. My 11 month old listens quite intently and especially likes 789. My husband and I also find ourselves singing along. I would like to commend the group for their quality lyrics, music and Canadian Pride!
#Great tunes, witty and in different genres (2008-07-05) My six year old son loves this CD. He was very skeptical at first but it s the only CD we ve been playing in the car for the past two weeks. The lyrics are witty (some jokes and play on words may be too sophisticated for the very young) and the tunes are catchy. You ll find yourself singing along to The Ninjas or to 7, 8, 9 before long!
#Ladies re-visit their inner child (2008-06-13) I can t listen to this record without getting a huge smile on my face, the songs are very catchy and clever, and you can just bet that BNL had a great time when they were making it. My favourites are, well darnit, I can t pick just one or two songs, they all leave me smiling. I suppose that I would have to say that the wonderful Gordon Lightfoot pastiche called The Canadian Snacktime Trilogy tickles me the most. I am looking forward to giving this cd/book to my three nieces.
# Ladies having fun (2008-06-12) This is a fun album, that even my husband and I enjoy. It s probably better for slightly older kids (4+) than the usual Raffi crowd, but my preschooler thinks that 789 is hilarious and my toddler bounces to the Polliwog song. It takes a couple of listens to really enjoy, but now it s the primary choice in our house. Dare I say that even people without kids will enjoy the Ladies having fun on this album?!
#Oh those Canadians! (2008-05-20) Raisins come from grapes People come from apes I come from Canada (lyrics from Raisins) This Canadian alt-rock band scores big with my family with this album of 24 original and hilarious songs for kids. For a taste of the album make sure you watch the video on the Amazon product page for the first track 7,8,9, based on the old pun about a very hungry number seven. Whether they re singing about ninjas or pollywogs, allergies or the alphabet, BNL never fail to bring a smile to your face with the clever lyrics and catchy tunes. The ones we really like ...

This two-disc retrospective traces the Canadian bard s musical maturity from poet and novelist who sang a little to multidimensional artist whose oracular vocals and increasingly rich arrangements are every bit as compelling as his verse. Even when Cohen came to prominence through the 1960s songcraft of Suzanne and Bird on a Wire, the folksinger tag never really fit. Later highlights ranging from the deadpan drollery of Tower of Song and Everybody Knows to the apocalyptic anthemry of First We Take Manhattan and Democracy suggest that other labels might be more appropriate: cabaret surrealist, spiritual gadfly, sensual prophet, agent provocateur. Cohen chose the selections, drawing more than half of the 31 tracks from three landmark albums--his 1967 debut Songs of Leonard Cohen, 1988 s I m Your Man, and 1992 s The Future--along with four from 2001 s Ten New Songs. The collection justifies its title as deep as it goes, though it s a shame that Cohen s commercial profile couldn t justify ...

#The Essential Leonard Cohen [LIMITED EDITION] [ORIGINAL RECO (2004-06-29) The Essential Leonard Cohen [LIMITED EDITION] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]~ Leonard Cohen is an amazing collection of cohens awesome tallent for lyric writing and his scrappy but loveable vocals. He is a serious man: yet it is never pretentious or boring. Which often happens with other vocalists of his God given tallent.
#cheatin and stuff (2004-05-08) Leonard Cohen is the one man I would cheat on my husband with. Yes, ma am.
#Potrait of An Artist As Both A Sage and Sinner (2004-05-03) The beauty of Leonard Cohen is he has always followed his own eccentric path and I see no duality between Cohen, the young romantic rake who ages into the embittered sensualist. It was always clear that Field Commander L. Cohen was going to dance us to the end of love, regardless of the consequences. Wheter it s the young revolutionary partisan, or the world weary cynic railing against the excesses of democracy, Cohen has never been satisfied with the political or moral status quo. His career is based on dissatisfaction wi...
#A Suitable Primer (2004-03-29) The name Leonard Cohen first came to my attention way back in the day when Suzanne was released. It was a fairly popular and much-covered song, but it never occurred to me to actually buy the album. I was into much musically heavier things at the time and so my awareness of Cohen gradually receded into distant memory. Nowadays, my musical interests are much wider and my pockets deeper, so I took a chance on Cohen s CD Ten New Songs when it was released several years ago. It took a while to get into, but I liked some of the songs immediately. My rule w...
#Thank God for Leonard Cohen (2004-01-04) This is a must for any Leonard Cohen complete-ist s collection! I have every CD he s ever put out and yet I find myself frequently choosing this set in order to conveniently listen to favorites from a variety of Leonard s previous CDs. A fabulous collection from an amazing artist!

1. After the Gold Rush (Young) 2. Simple (lang/Piltch) 3. Helpless (Young) 4. A Case of You (Mitchell) 5. The Valley (Siberry) 6. Hallelujah (Cohen) 7. One Day I Walk (Cockburn) 8. Fallen (Sexsmith) 9. Jericho (Mitchell) 10. Bird on a Wire (Cohen) 11. Love Is Everything (Siberry)

Was it homesickness that compelled long time Los Angeles resident k. d. lang to fashion her one woman campaign for north of the border nationalism, or just plain good sense? As an organizing tool, all Canadian content has long been a mainstay of the Canadian Broadcasting System but few have selected their material with such a fine hand and a high aesthetic. The expatriate singer has taken great pains to create a sophisticated homage to her Canadian roots, elegantly reinterpreting 11 songs penned by some of her more illustrious countrymen (and women) such as Jane Siberry, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Leonard Cohen. The idiosyncratic chanteuse turns Cohen s Bird on a Wire into an aching monochromatic lament, exploring new tributaries of pain that didn t exist in the original, while recasting Neil Young s Helpless into haunting anthem of memory and comfort, all the while sounding anything but helpless. A gorgeous love letter to her brethren, complete with an intelligent and understated ...

#Hallelujah (2006-10-12) I will be honest I wanted Hallelujah off of this album. It is fantastic! However this album is also a great choice for anyone who loves Leonard Cohen s songs. K. D. Lang s voice is of course, phenomenal!
#WOW! (2004-11-07) What an exquisite voice kd lang has and what an album to showcase it! Her voice and phrasing are so seamless, so absolutely perfect, the effect is spellbinding (so much so that my spine literally tingles to listen to it!). In our age of processed, fast food music, here is a truly genuine and compelling album with songs sung by one of our very finest and most talented artists.
#Velvet Voice is awesome (2004-09-22) kd lang is one of Canada s best female vocalists. The confidence and polish is evident in these familiar Canadian classics. Total command and precision in every song invites the listener to play this CD over and over. lang is a treasure and this album shines with her mastery of these beautiful songs. Looking forward to seeing her in concert this year with any of these songs.
#Magnificent (2004-08-09) Although the songs are not new on this album, the concept is - trying to plumb the soul of the Canadian songwriter. And to offer renderings of those exquisite songs by Mitchell, Cohen, Young and some carefully selected others. Does it make sense? Yes, I think so, because I know of no attempt like it before. Yes, because the interpreter is an authority and a great Canadian singer in her own right. And yes, because these recordings sometimes reach the sublime, as is the case with Joni Mitchell s incomparable A Case of You - perhaps better than the original,...
#Boring (2004-08-05) What a boring piece of junk. I could not wait for this CD. With great anticipation, I opened the jacket, put it in the CD player and started to listen. From the first song to the last, this was one of the most listless pieces of music ever recorded. There seemed to be none of the passion that Ms. Lang has shown before. One song flowed into another song and eventually they all sounded the same, which is not what I expected.
