American punk rock seems to get more watered down with each passing year. Leave it to the Swedes to remind the USA that we were once the home of the Stooges and the MC5. The Hives Veni Vidi Vicious owes its very being to Detroit s punk genesis, they may be decades too late, but the Hives capture the zeal and fury perfectly. Die, All Right, an angry rant against capitalism, spikes the aural brew with frontman Howlin Pelle Almqvist s nasty nasal shouts. Just as rocking is Hate to Say I Told You So, which boasts a clunky punk groove and delightfully dark lyrics such as Do what I please gonna spread the disease because I wanna / Gonna call all the shots for the no s and the not s. Veni Vidi Vicious clocks in at just under half an hour--a perfectly timed charge of codeine-meets-caffeine and decibels-meets-delicious-rock. --Jason Josephes

#It feels like a punch in your face!!! it rocks hard!!! (2004-07-21) Intense, Loud, In Your Face Music. What More Can I Say About These Guys. The Suits are Cool, The Names of These Guys Are Great. How Can Anyone Even Compare These Guys To The Strokes.
#Hate to say I own this cd (2004-07-05) I regret buying the cd. Say what you will about rock revival, the thing is. . . this band is annoying. Maybe you like annoying? I listened to it a few times than it drifted to the bottom of my CD pile. Stick with the Strokes or Jet if you want a CD of this genre. Standout songs: Hate to say I told you so, Find another girl(too bad they are also the only good songs on the CD).
#Quirky marketing aside, this is GREAT music! (2004-06-27) The suits. A CD called ",your new favorite band", and so on. . . are they for real, or just poking fun at themselves and everyone who takes them too seriously? My vote is the latter. But quirky humor and all, make no mistake these guys positively rock with pure punky aggression! This music goes full tilt without becoming a spit fest. Catchy, fast, powerful stuff! This CD kicks right in with music to make you move and does not let go until the last track. If you are considering their upcoming release, this may be a go...
#NULLAS SALUS SINE THE HIVES (2004-06-23) Like the phrase says, there is NO salvation without the hives. They are a brillant fab band. Their music is fun, upbeat, and original. buy the cd. Trust me its that good. I want to pick a favorite song, but i can t. Their new album drops July 20th so be sure to go out and buy it!
#It s Loud. It s Fast. It s Swedish. (2004-06-22) Don t believe all of the hype surrounding the Hives. They re good, yes, but they re not anything brand new. The Hives merely put out a sound that had not been heard in the mainstream scene, and for this I am thankful. At a mere 28 minutes, Veni Vidi Vicious is extremely refreshing. Loud, if not grating at times, but it s nice to listen to something slightly different. Granted, there are hundreds of bands thrown into the ",garage rock", label at this point, but the Hives possess a certain sound that makes them stand out. Pe...

#Great blues rock (2005-08-09) Haha, wow. All the reviewers so far are from Ottawa/Toronto. Anyway I saw the vid for ",10 AM Automatic", on MuchMusic and Dan s voice blew me away. Bought the album and really enjoyed it- I m getting more into older blues bands because of these guys. Sweet album, cool guys.
#tell your friends (2005-07-01) the only way to describe this album is by saying that it is remarkable in every way an album can be. It ranges from mellow to kinetic, from simple to complex and from gritty to even more gritty. Rubber factory is RAW, fun and is delivered with unbelievable skill. The Black Keys are the best American music act since Bruce Springsteen and will surely get the notoriety they deserve. Every single person that i have played this album for has loved it. You must buy this album now.
#Great Stuff! (2004-11-07) These guys know what it s like to be the White Stripes, so what do they do? Make the same blues music the Stripes do! This album is great to listen to and the lyrics are great! I think the Stripes and the Keys should have a concert together. Wouldn t that be odd!
#Excellent effort. (2004-09-30) I saw these guys live last night, and bought the album at the show: listened to it on the way home, listened to it when I got home, listened to it going to sleep, listened to it when I got up in the morning. It is quite simply an exceptional album from a very talented rock-blues duo. The songs are varied, and depending on your mood you could kick back and sip on some scotch, or crank it up and throw down. I don t buy into the White Stripes comparisons: firstly, they don t really sound alike at all. Secondly, while the White Stripes have a lot of so...
