#I m The First?? (2002-12-19) I bought this cd last year and I love it!! This cd is a collection of classic performances by Verve s elite. The opening track is not Frank DeVol, who did indeed produce the track, it s Ella Fitzgerald. Another error found on this site is the artist listing for ",The Christmas Song",. It s Mel Torme s performance here. A couple of tracks reappear here, they were featured on Verve s release of ",Have Yourself A Jazzy Little Christmas", probably repeated here because of artist merit and performance. One such noteable track is Oscar Peter...

#Oscar Peterson s Trio Performance:One of the Best. (2003-07-02) This re-release by Verve preserves, in my opinion, one of the best trio performances. In the Still of the Night , Peterson s subtle single melody nuances and left hand chords are complimented by Ray Brown s wonderful bass. Ed Thigpen maintains the tempo with his stylish brush technique. The rest of the CD is hampered only slightly by the volme inconsistencies from one number to the next, created by the studio. This is a great CD.
#BUY IT EYES CLOSED (2003-05-31) OSCAR PETERSON s 1959 piano tribute to COLE PORTER is a joy even if it s only 33 minutes long. We could have take an another half hour of this music. What makes it so enjoyable is the variety of moods it delivers. There was actually another PORTER songbook recorded in mono, but for a reason i ignore, they did not coupled it with this one to make it last longer. A message to VERVE:did they lost the masters of the RICHARD RODGERS songbook, and if not, what are they waiting for?
#Oscar Peterson is S wonderful (2003-01-26) How can one go wrong setting Cole Porter music down. . . How can the Great Oscar Peterson go wrong either? He didn t. Oscar is a shining example of what makes a truely wonderful, gifted musician. His dynamics, touch and feeling are really a joy to listen to. Well done! Enjoy!
#cole porter and rythm (2001-02-25) well, i can play Cole in 1. 000 ways . All the ways are wonderful.
#Yes, oh yes, indeed, yes, yes, yes! (2000-05-20) Every time I play this CD people ask about it. I have never seen something so universally loved. It creates and sustains a lazy summer afternoon mood like no other.

1. So What 2. Freddie Freeloader 3. Blue in Green 4. All Blues 5. Flamenco Sketches 6. Flamenco Sketches [Alternate Take][*]

This is the one jazz record owned by people who don t listen to jazz, and with good reason. The band itself is extraordinary (proof of Miles Davis s masterful casting skills, if not of God s existence), listing John Coltrane and Julian Cannonball Adderley on saxophones, Bill Evans (or, on Freddie Freeloader, Wynton Kelly) on piano, and the crack rhythm unit of Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Coltrane s astringency on tenor is counterpoised to Adderley s funky self on alto, with Davis moderating between them as Bill Evans conjures up a still lake of sound on which they walk. Meanwhile, the rhythm partnership of Cobb and Chambers is prepared to click off time until eternity. It was the key recording of what became modal jazz, a music free of the fixed harmonies and forms of pop songs. In Davis s men s hands it was a weightless music, but one that refused to fade into the background. In retrospect every note seems perfect, and each piece moves inexorably towards its destiny...

#This Jazz album gets better and better with time! (2007-06-27) I can not say I know anything about Jazz music, although I always loved it due to my parents passion for it, hence I decided to erase my ignorance and start to educate myself about it. So I hinted on this album during the holiday season and ended up getting this as part of my Christmas gift from my father. I wanted this album due to Miles Davis name only. And I was spellbound by it, it s really a breathtaking peace of music. On one hand I was delighted and on the other hand I was upset!! Delighted because I got the chan...
#The one that started it... (2005-02-07) And I mean that. Over ten years ago, I was younger and knew nothing about jazz at the time. I went to the record shop and decided to invest in my first jazz album. I picked up the Kind of Blue album and when I got home, I realized that I had found the one album that would begin what was to become my favorite music genre. . . and it ll do the same for you. After 100s of listenings of the first track ",So What",, I ve memorized every note played by Miles, John and Cannonball. I also play alto sax and can play the solos with it...
#This album is the jazz s quintessential ! (2004-07-16) This album is incredible , amazing . It doesn t happen very often one recording reachs so cosmic heights . You may consider a simple account about this statement. Think in I love Paris (Michel Legrand)(see my review) . In this case Davis is present in the recording session , and we are just talking about the supreme jewel of the instrumental music in any time . I mean , if I love Paris (made in 1954) reached this status (years before A kind of blue) , you must agree with me that Miles Davis owned the magic playing , moreover, th...
#Worth listening to once. (2004-07-14) I wasn t too surprised to see that no-one s reviewed this item yet. I ll admit this is not a good album, but the trumpet player on here (Miles Davis) has an interesting style that s reminiscent of Orville Reddenbacher s playing during his final ",consumptive", period. This album has been out of print for a long time, but as you can see there are a couple of used copies available, both for less than the price of a cup of coffee. So you might want to ChEcK iT oUt.
#Only rated it one star so that everyone will read it (2004-06-28) Okay- here goes,Now, first of all there is NO ONE that can possibly even doubt Davis ability as a player. You listen to ANY OTHER trumpet player then listen to him and you will right a way be able to tell how he has his own unique voice whenever he plays his instrument. It is so different than anyone else, and his soundis INCREDIBLY hard to reproduce, most trumpet players can only dream of having a sound and dynamic control like his. Being able to play stuff like this that isn t just fast lound and flashy, and...
