There s a feeling you get when you put on an Anne Murray record, and--apologies in advance to all you anti-sentimentalists--it s best summarized by the vocal legend herself in the classic tune I Just Fall in Love Again. You can t help yourself, you fall in love. Those who ve been listening along swollen-heartedly since the 1970s know the feeling well, and those who are about to discover Murray via this duets album and its handful of younger-skewing songs--the Nelly Furtado team-up on Daydream Believer especially--are going to have a hard time not submitting. It s the tenderness that hooks you: Murray s deep, confident voice manages to be maternal without being claustrophobic, an effect magnified here by expert vocal partners like Carole King, Emmylou Harris, and Olivia Newton John. The few left-field choices--Indigo Girls, k.d. lang, a ghostly appearance by Dusty Springfield--aren t hard-left enough to muck up the mood. And the song selection doesn t strike a false note either: Cotton ...

#I LOVE IT (2008-03-12) OK, it IS a bit of a blast from the past but I LOVE the idea of having two women singing duets. We live in Canada. We celebrate life and love. The album is like a giant gift . I so hope Anne Murray will continue for years to come.
#It is good but not thrilling. (2008-01-15) Anne Murray has re-recorded her best-known songs as duets with an all-female group of collaborators including Canadians Shania Twain, Nelly Furtado, k. d. Lang, Jann Arden, Isabelle Boulay, her own daughter Dawn Langstroth and the ubiquitous Selline Dion. The roster of guests is really impressive and includes also Emmylou Harris, Carole King, Martina McBride, Shelby Lynne, Amy Grant, Celtic Woman, Indigo Girls and the late Dusty Springfirld. It was Anne who suggested the all-female idea to help whittle down the artists involved. She was ...
#Great Swan Song (2008-01-03) This recording is really great. I have been a fan of Anne Murray for a long time and of course have heard these songs many times but this cd is different. The songs are fresh in the hands of some of the best singers around. I was especially happy to hear Song for the Myra so beautiful and yet so seldom played or seen on greatest hits compilations. Good decision Anne! Happy retirement golfing !
#If anyone can du-et, it s Anne (2007-12-10) As usual, Anne s voice is flawless. I especially like Cotton Jenny with Olivia Newton John, Love Song with KD Lang and You Won t See Me. Congratulations Anne on another great album. PS - the person who gave 1 star because the album cost a $1 more in Canada - get a life. There are 300 million people in the US - it s called economies of scale.
#A big achievement (2007-12-04) In revisiting her hits, Anne has made no attempt to recreate the original recordings. Nor has she attempted to do tricks. She simply sings the songs as she sees them today, which is not always how she saw them yesterday. The duets are for the most part true duets, with the two singers in the studio together, and artistically that makes such a difference. Everything here is fascinating. I particularly love Cotton Jenny, with Anne doing the song as written and Olivia Newton-John noodling in and out of the melody. Anne and k. d. lang, Anne and Jan...

#Enjoyable for parents and children! (2008-07-10) This disc is an entertaining romp with the Barenaked Ladies. My 11 month old listens quite intently and especially likes 789. My husband and I also find ourselves singing along. I would like to commend the group for their quality lyrics, music and Canadian Pride!
#Great tunes, witty and in different genres (2008-07-05) My six year old son loves this CD. He was very skeptical at first but it s the only CD we ve been playing in the car for the past two weeks. The lyrics are witty (some jokes and play on words may be too sophisticated for the very young) and the tunes are catchy. You ll find yourself singing along to The Ninjas or to 7, 8, 9 before long!
#Ladies re-visit their inner child (2008-06-13) I can t listen to this record without getting a huge smile on my face, the songs are very catchy and clever, and you can just bet that BNL had a great time when they were making it. My favourites are, well darnit, I can t pick just one or two songs, they all leave me smiling. I suppose that I would have to say that the wonderful Gordon Lightfoot pastiche called The Canadian Snacktime Trilogy tickles me the most. I am looking forward to giving this cd/book to my three nieces.
# Ladies having fun (2008-06-12) This is a fun album, that even my husband and I enjoy. It s probably better for slightly older kids (4+) than the usual Raffi crowd, but my preschooler thinks that 789 is hilarious and my toddler bounces to the Polliwog song. It takes a couple of listens to really enjoy, but now it s the primary choice in our house. Dare I say that even people without kids will enjoy the Ladies having fun on this album?!
#Oh those Canadians! (2008-05-20) Raisins come from grapes People come from apes I come from Canada (lyrics from Raisins) This Canadian alt-rock band scores big with my family with this album of 24 original and hilarious songs for kids. For a taste of the album make sure you watch the video on the Amazon product page for the first track 7,8,9, based on the old pun about a very hungry number seven. Whether they re singing about ninjas or pollywogs, allergies or the alphabet, BNL never fail to bring a smile to your face with the clever lyrics and catchy tunes. The ones we really like ...

#Classic Neil At His Best (2008-12-02) When I first heard about this recording coming out I heard it was recorded on a 2 track reel to reel. I just gave it my first listen and I am totally amazed at the sound quality. How did you get that sound from a 2 track recording from 40 years ago is beyond me. The chatter is classic as well especially the book store story. If this is an example of Archives I can hardly wait !!!Highly recommended. Thanks Neil.

#Whatever Language, Celine Dion Still Has An Amazing Voice (2008-10-28) If you ever have the chance to go to a Celine Dion concert, I would recommend that you spend the money and take advantage of the opportunity. We went to a Celine Dion concert last night, and I can tell you that she is amazing. I can understand that Celine Dion is not popular amongst all Canadians, but if you can put aside your opinions abour what she values and how she chooses to live her life, then you can see what quality made her rich and famous: which is the ability of her to express herself musically. This l...

As the song goes, Merry Christmas has already been said many times, many ways. Diana Krall s Christmas Songs is a worthy--though not particularly unique--addition to the holiday catalog. On it, she excels with an approach mastered long ago: elegant delivery that gives extra polish to a very familiar lineup. Some might find her style frosty at times, but that will come as a relief to those who want their carolers to cut through some of the holiday treacle and create a festive, yet grown-up vibe. And Krall does show off her playful side with little, personal touches. In Winter Wonderland she promises to frolic and play the Canadian way, which should draw smiles from her native land. (That ll mean toasting the holiday with Molson, eh?) Elsewhere, she ends Jingle Bells with the girlishly giddy statement, I m just crazy about horses. Well…,can t argue with that. --Leah Weathersby

#Simply excellent ! (2007-12-17) Diana Krall has come up with a perfect Christmas album. The selection of material is flawless and loaded with classics - which, let s face it, is a key element in a Christmas record. Most of the songs on the album were recorded with a big band, which brings out the best in Krall, the result is slick, flawless and will perfectly suit your holiday season. When she turns down the tempo for piano-and-vocals ballads, it s intimate enough to make you feel as though she s sitting in the room with you. The highlights are Jingle bells, Winter wonderland, What...
#Wonderful (2006-06-29) this is a wonderful album to add to your Christmas stash!!Diana can really feel music, and we as a listener reap the benefits of this gift. She is just one more great voice of this generation. . . so many now with Diana, Nora, Michael B, Harry C. and still one of my favs, Tony Bennett. . . . Keep this wonderful music coming everyone, as we will keep on buying your beautiful music.
#3.5 stars (2005-12-22) Great CD if you need xmas tunes for the holidays. Much nicer than the usual crap out there. Problem with this CD is that every time you turn on the radio it s being played. As usual with her CDs her voice has been butched by the studio/producer, (typicial echo overlay). If you want to hear her real voice see her live, and even then it s still a bit wonky.
#This is not a review (2005-12-08) Don t buy from CAIMAN USA. Very bad services.
#Bad Photo (2005-12-05) Photos are subjective, but i think Diana needs to find a new photographer, it looks like she fell in this chair and is finding that s it s hurting way too much. What a waste of an image on a high class act. ORC
