#Good Rock CD (2008-11-18) It s a pretty good rock cd. Of course, the highly anticipated Rob Pattinson song had to fall short. Guitar was awesome, vocals not so great-embarassing, actually. It sounds like his nose is being pinched by a clothespin. I would like to hear some other vocal pieces from him to really decide if I would listen to him or not. Also, the lullaby isn t strictly a piano piece as written in the book, it s an orchestral arrangement-also a disappointment. It sounded nice, just not what I was led to expect.
#A great intro to little-known bands (2008-11-14) I bought this soundtrack because of my interest in the upcoming movie. What kind of music would they pick for a teen vampire flick? I m glad I bought it! Right from Supermassive Black Hole by Muse, I loved it. None of the songs were skippers which is unusual for me (though I do enjoy some songs more than others). There s some emo-rock songs, pop, slow songs. And the performers are mostly obscure (to me) with some better-known talent thrown into the mix. It reminds me of the great soundtracks to the John Hughes films in the e...

#Enjoyable for parents and children! (2008-07-10) This disc is an entertaining romp with the Barenaked Ladies. My 11 month old listens quite intently and especially likes 789. My husband and I also find ourselves singing along. I would like to commend the group for their quality lyrics, music and Canadian Pride!
#Great tunes, witty and in different genres (2008-07-05) My six year old son loves this CD. He was very skeptical at first but it s the only CD we ve been playing in the car for the past two weeks. The lyrics are witty (some jokes and play on words may be too sophisticated for the very young) and the tunes are catchy. You ll find yourself singing along to The Ninjas or to 7, 8, 9 before long!
#Ladies re-visit their inner child (2008-06-13) I can t listen to this record without getting a huge smile on my face, the songs are very catchy and clever, and you can just bet that BNL had a great time when they were making it. My favourites are, well darnit, I can t pick just one or two songs, they all leave me smiling. I suppose that I would have to say that the wonderful Gordon Lightfoot pastiche called The Canadian Snacktime Trilogy tickles me the most. I am looking forward to giving this cd/book to my three nieces.
# Ladies having fun (2008-06-12) This is a fun album, that even my husband and I enjoy. It s probably better for slightly older kids (4+) than the usual Raffi crowd, but my preschooler thinks that 789 is hilarious and my toddler bounces to the Polliwog song. It takes a couple of listens to really enjoy, but now it s the primary choice in our house. Dare I say that even people without kids will enjoy the Ladies having fun on this album?!
#Oh those Canadians! (2008-05-20) Raisins come from grapes People come from apes I come from Canada (lyrics from Raisins) This Canadian alt-rock band scores big with my family with this album of 24 original and hilarious songs for kids. For a taste of the album make sure you watch the video on the Amazon product page for the first track 7,8,9, based on the old pun about a very hungry number seven. Whether they re singing about ninjas or pollywogs, allergies or the alphabet, BNL never fail to bring a smile to your face with the clever lyrics and catchy tunes. The ones we really like ...

#Mood music at its best, with stellar musical talent (2008-11-16) I m partial to the Southern jams and uptempo stuff that kicked off our relationship. These guys were breath of fresh air pickled with twang and moonshine when they launched Holy Roller Novocaine. This was a great start. These boys were not content to rest idle on the twang groove. . . they step to new styles with each new album, and they do so with unmatched competence. Now - I m not a fan loyal to a specific sound, I m loyal to the talent and to the imagination they bring to the sounds they choose to explore. I...
#Night Music (2008-10-30) Great album! For sure more slow jams than the last albums, but the don t call it Only By the Night for no good reason. The quality of the sound is very good. Worth checking out.
#Just Ok (2008-10-01) Not a bad album, but pails in comparision to their earlier albums. Good if you dig slow jams.
#Nickeleon (2008-09-25) Wow. . . they sure embraced their inner Nickeleon on this album. Sex On Fire is one of the dumbest songs ever written, with a pointless video to match, and their utterly predictable formula for the record shows itself in spades with Use Somebody and Be Somebody. It s Nickelback for indie kids. Sure, their sound has changed over time, but they aren t getting any better, just different. That means they don t have a sound of their own. They re a patchwork of dick and whore anecdotes and stage posturing. At least Mötley Crüe and KISS were honest about the...
