#think this is a kid s book? think again (2004-06-14) I am in college-level beginning anatomy and the instructor was quizzing the class on terminology. He gave the definition or pointed to a body part and we had to shout out the answer. I knew all of the terms while my classmates struggled. During break, my classmates asked how I knew/remembered this stuff. My answer? ",The Anatomy Coloring Book. ", They blithely dismissed it as kid s stuff, a coloring book. Well, that may be. . . but *I* know the material.
#Great Study Aide! (2004-05-03) This book was a life saver when I had to take anatomy! It soo saved me! I was better able to study for tests and I actually learned different sections of things such as the brain and cardiovascular system. If you are taking anatomy, I highly recommend this! It will help tremendously!
#Great Addition to Any Anatomy Text (2004-03-10) I purchased this while taking a course in Anatomy, and did much better in the class. What would take the text a chapter to explain, this book explained in a few pages - sometimes in a few paragraphs. It was much easier to understand the organ systems when you could actually see how things worked. The coloring aspect to me at first, seemed rather silly, but it was so much fun that I quickly got past that! I would definately recommend this book to anyone taking anatomy - purchase it with your other texts if you can (I waited till mid...
#Excellent visual learning aid, must buy (2003-09-12) I found this book to be excellent for helping me with my college anatomy and physiology class. I first tried to learn locations of muscles by just looking at pictures. However, for some reason, the muscles would not stick to my mind as easy. I then started using this book and coloring the muscles. In this way, the locations of muscles stuck to my mind and was able to recall them on the test. However, I also highly recommend the following:Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology(ISBN: 0971999694)I used this book for both my anat...
#a good challenge (2003-08-09) I was introduced to this book through an anatomy class for a high school course. This book is definetly not for the casual anatomy student. The book has so much detail it is overwhelming but it is very helpful in forcing you to apply and learn the material. It definetly gets you allong the course, plus who doesnt like to color.

When National Geographic published its first Atlas of the World more than 35 years ago, the world was indeed a different place. In order to cover today s world--including its oceans, stars, climate, natural resources, and more--National Geographic has published its seventh edition of the Atlas of the World. With each new edition, National Geographic strives to make its atlas more than just maps. You ll learn that the coldest place in the world is the Plateau Station in Antarctica, where the average daily temperature is minus 56.7 degrees Celsius, the most populated continent is Asia, with more than 3.6 billion people, or 60.8 percent of the world s population, the driest place on earth is the Atacama Desert in Chile, a flight from New Delhi to Rio de Janeiro covers 14,080 kilometers, life expectancy in the Republic of Zambia is 37 years, and the literacy rate in Turkmenistan is 98 percent. Flip through the pages of this impressive book and you will feel as though the world is literall...

#Best of best (2007-02-17) Having researched most atlases at both public and university libraries, I am in the position to state this is the best atlas in the world, best of the best. Although I am only talking about the atlas quality and not the price.
#What is going on? (2006-07-26) This is a beautiful book, one which I almost passed over because of the very low rating. Does no one at Amazon edit these reviews? Virtually all of the 1 or 2 star ratings are about one (possibly inappropriately-applied) name that provoked intense nationalistic fervor and a semi-comprehensible rant which has nothing to do with the overall quality of the atlas. Some of them even accused National Geographic of having been bought out by enemies of certain nations. Get a grip. . .
#National Geographic has made changes (2005-06-16) In December 2004, National Geographic (NG) updated the Persian Gulf plate (Plate 75) to accomodate the controversies surrounding the place-names used in the 8th edition. Here is my understanding of the changes made:1. The term ",Arabian Gulf", in parenthesis has been deleted. Instead, there is a small note that reads: ",Historically and commonly known as the Persian Gulf, this body of water is also referred by some as the Arabian Gulf. ",2. Persian names of all Iranian islands are used. (Kish instead of Qeys, Lav...
#Reviews are helpful written in English (2005-05-25) I d agree that the book could use some revision. It s funny that most people complaining about the content seem to have difficulty forming actual sentences! Maybe you had difficulty reading the book in general?
#Not accurate! (2005-01-07) To remain a valid international reference, this book is supposed to be more accurate in names(such as Persian Gulf)and indifferent about false data!

#Very Hungry Birds (and More !) (2007-05-26) The New Scientist is a weekly magazine, first published in 1956, that covers the recent happenings in the scientific world. In 1994, the magazine launched a new column called The Last Word in which its driven by its readers - not all of whom are geeks in white coats. Here, they could not only pose a science-related question, but also provide the answers. Does Anything Eat Wasps is a selection of the questions asked and answered over the column s first eleven years, and proved to be one of the UK s surprise hit of the year. The book is ...

#Almost perfect (2008-09-15) I just bought this book as a supplement to help me understand Spivak s Calculus, a proof based treatment of calculus, which is the text of my analysis 1 class. Velleman elucidates complex concepts in math extremely clearly, by carefully and thoroughly building on concepts one at a time. His explanation of basic set theory had me looking at the definitions I had already known in an entirely new, fresher and clearier perspective, like I was seeing them again for the first time. Flipping through the book at the beginning, without any knowledge of the symbols...
#An excellent book (2004-03-01) This is an excellent book for the early undergraduate student. It is actually two books in one. The first half is a careful review of Logic and the essentials of Set Theory with an emphasis on precise language. Thereafter a structured development of proof techniques is clearly presented using these tools. The second half of the book is a detailed presentation of introductory material about functions, relations, and a few aspects of more advanced set theory. These chapters serve as a wonderful introduction and show applications of the proof techniq...
#Starts off good, and then goes off on a tangent. (2003-07-25) I bought this book in the hopes that it would help me improve my proof writing skills. Being only a high school graduate (a month ago), I had practically no knowledge of set theory. The initial proof structures were great, and I enjoyed following the proofs from the premises and, through logical steps, to the desired conclusion. However, then the Set Theory came in. I can understand why a certain amount of set theory was necessary in order to be able to talk about certain types of proofs, but he goes so far into set the...
#Breakthrough and Original ...... (2002-10-24) I recall it was a few years back when I encountered this little gem at my first analysis class. In fact this book wasn t assigned and instead we used Analysis by Lay. I didn t get essential proof tactics/strategies out of Lay s so I plunged myself into Library and after looking up one after another, I finally found this book. It is about as title says and not about Analysis. The book does not cover as much as one expects from Analysis books. But many of them I ve seen seem to fail on teaching how to prove to study Analysis. Velleman u...
#Probably the best book out there but not perfect (2001-12-27) A good basic introduction to understanding math proofs by understanding logic first. Only lacking in its connection to math proofs that one might actually see, in other words too basic (which is as much complement as a critcism. )
