In their excellent (and hefty) resource guide, The Baby Book, attachment parenting specialists William Sears and Martha Sears have provided new parents with their approach to every aspect of baby care basics, from newborns to toddlers. Attachment parenting is a gentle, reasonable approach to parenting that stresses bonding with your baby, responding to her cues, breastfeeding, wearing your baby, and sharing sleep with your child. For those parents who worry about negative effects of this attention, the Sears say, Spoiling is what happens when you leave something (or some person) alone on the shelf--it spoils.

#Good Reference Book from Attachment Parenting Perspective (2008-05-06) I checked this book out of library when my first child was a baby. I now use AskDrSears. com website. This book is very comprehensive and a good reference book from attachment parenting perspective. I would also recommend to read about other perspectives. If you need to go back to work then you may find that some ideas are not practical, but overall it is a good book. It talks a lot about breastfeeding, carrying your baby in a sling and co-sleeping. Sears don t tell you that you are a bad parent if you are no...
#This is my baby bible (2008-01-27) I spent so much time reading this book when I brought home my baby girl. It has so much useful information for new parents and it s written in a very simple, non-condescending way. I always have it near by to check on things like introducing new foods, signs of allergies, what to give baby when she s constipated. It s a really great resource. I did find it lacking on information around sleep (maybe that s why they wrote a book on Sleep?). This book is pro attachment parenting. I love the philosophy and have tried my best to practice it but I...
#The only book you ll need (2007-11-11) I had MANY baby books and eventually got rid of them all but this one. This book has everything you need to know, from a terrific developmental reference chart, to what to do if your baby wakes up with a huge swollen pink eye (very helpful index). My second baby was collicky, and again, this was the most helpful and reassuring book for me. This book cover s literally EVERYTHING. I think this book should be sent home with every new mother from the hospital. BUY THIS BOOK!!
#The Baby Bible (2007-06-09) I recently took this book out of the library and I have to say, it is the most comprehensive book I have seen yet. There are so many relevant topics in this book and I can see myself using it for years to come. I will definetly go to the bookstore and buy this book so I can have it whenever I need it. Dr. Sears writings on attachment parenting made complete sense to me. He often refers to his own family s challenges and successes, which makes for a relatable component in the book. There is so much information in this book, I reccomend it for any ...
#Best Baby Book (2007-02-10) I have owned this book for over 3 years. I also name it my Baby Bible,it has helped me with every question or concern about breastfeeding, nutrition, baby/child development and infant illnesses. It has made me feel confident in using the attached parenting philosophy. It suits my lifestyle and beliefs. If feels natural. I would definitely recommend this book to a pre-natal parent or to any parent. You get your money s worth and more. If you would like to buy more of Dr. Sears books, I would recommend this one first since it seems to entail most of wha...

#Moderate, practical advice (2008-03-25) When I saw the thickness of this book, my heart completely sunk. I wasn t really wanting a textbook to read. BUT, as soon as I picked it up, I read 200 pages straight. . . this book is VERY easy to read, gives practical advice and is a non-fear-mongering approach to parenting. I m planning on purchasing the author s other books, simply because I like this one so much!
#A bedside book for me! (2008-01-23) This is a good book, easy to read and covers a lot of topics that you may think of when you have a new baby at home. Some of the topics may not be covered in depth, such as colic or gassy babies but it does talk about it and one book can t cover every topic in great detail. In any case, I would strongly recommend this book as a quick reference. I read it basically cover to cover, it was enjoyable to read and I go back to it time and time again, and my baby is only 2 months old - I m sure I will be using it more as he gets older!
#One of the Best Resources out there...and for Canadians!!! (2007-06-09) This book rules. . . I fully intend to check out the toddler one that Ann Douglas wrote as well. This book was not only comprehensive with lots of useful information for the first year, but was also humerous in parts, which i appreciated. I recieved some of the What to Expect. . . series from friends, and thought that this book was better. One of the things that stood out for me too is the fact that she talks about issues that relates to Canadians specifically, such as EI/Maternity Benefits and Child Benefi...
#Best book out there! (2005-10-06) I went and bought this book after seeing an interview on an Ottawa morning show - and am I ever impressed! Finally - a book marketed and written to/for Canadian parents! An offers insightful and helpful advice for parents - right down to registering your child(ren)s birth in Canada and applying for the CCTB - something very helpful to first time parents, and things to expect in your newborn! This book totally blows all the others I read right out of the water (some I was given, I didn t bother to read after this one!) I look forward to buying/reading h...
#An Excellent Resource for Canadians (2003-10-10) I purchased the Mother of All Pregnancy Books and the Mother of All Baby Books for the birth of my first child. I highly recommend these books. The information on practices in Canada sets them apart from other books and made my purchasing decision easy. I have spent hours reading and re-reading these books (when you re sleep deprived it takes a while to absorb information!). The information is current and the inclusion of comments and advice from other mothers gives it credibility. The writing style flows nicely and I appreciated th...

#Great Little Resource (2008-05-04) I ve read every activity in this book (and tape-flagged all the ones I m going to try) and I think this book is worth every penny. My young kids - 5, 3, and 1. 5 - are all going to benefit from using this book. We ve done a few of the activities already (kazoo, toddler pouch, and indoor sandbox), and have LOVED them!My only complaint is I wish there were more pictures of the activities. As a busy mom of three I found it was labour intensive to read through each activity, instead of just being able to flip though and look at the pictures of the act...
#Handy Ideas for Quality Time with Toddlers & Preschoolers (2003-06-15) In the USA we generally refer to a child as being a toddler between the ages of 18 months and 3 years of age. However, my 5-year-old preschooler enjoys many of the activities in this book as well as his almost 2-year-old sister. I have learned that the best gift a parent can give a child is his/her undivided attention for a period of time. I have personally found that by spending one-on-one time with each of my children, even if only for 5-10 minutes one or two times a day, there is a positive change in the daily...
#love love LOVE this book! (2002-07-09) My 2-yr-old is pretty easy to keep occupied, but I thought I d pick this book up anyway. WELL! What a bonanza of ideas! I highly highly recommend this book - the ideas are simple and imaginative. The[$$$] you spend on this book will go a lot further than [$$$]spent on a cheap plastic toy. The only problem is that you might feel guilty not doing EVERYTHING in the book.
#Cruise Director (2002-05-16) A great aid for a first-time mom who needed to know just what toddlers find interesting and fun.
#Get Creative (2002-04-13) Want to get your creative juices flowing? But this book and it will start you thinking of many very fun (and practically free!) activity ideas for you and your toddler. Want to play with play dough? It s twice as fun to make it at home. Also included are recipes for paint, clay and mysterious concoctions like magic mud. Don t throw away that cardboard box! Use it to make a toss game or fort. Build castles with blocks of paper bags stuffed with newspaper or make a noodle necklace. Your toddler doesn t like the game right now? Who cares, these projects cos...

#Godsend! (2008-03-28) I m a mom of Triplets, I was desperate to find a solution to soothe my babies as quickly as possible, since my time is very divided between them. This book is an absolute blessing, I have only read 3 quarters of it and it s already working wonders for us. I would strongly recommend this book to every new parent.
#It really works ... (2007-11-12) I gave it to ma friend who has a 2 month old baby. Guess what -- I was told that it is a really great gift that works. For happier, calmer, and loving baby. Just follow it step-by-step (easy to do) to get the result. I m sure all the other reviewers have the same opinion.
#These techniques give new parents confidence! (2007-03-03) A work colleague suggested I read this book and lent it to me. I read it about 3 months before my due date. I liked the concept so much that I bought my own copy and also got the DVD. The DVD is a good complement to the book and most fathers would probably prefer watching the DVD than to read the entire book. This is by far the most useful tool I have to calm my baby down when he s crying (after I ve fed, burped an changed him). I started to use it as soon as he was born. I did the shushing and he calmed right down. When...
#It is the Magic Pill new parents need! (2006-03-31) My daughter, our third child, was almost three months old when I read this book. She was already sleeping well at night, but I got the book because so many other new moms were raving about the book. I tried the main one of the five S s, swaddling, and it worked magic. Before my baby had only been cat napping in our arms through the day but after the trying the tight swaddling demonstrated in the book she fell right to sleep and could be put down in her crib immediately. She also slept longer during her naps and at night. I wish...
#Bless you Dr. Karp! (2005-03-20) We ordered this DVD for our son and received it when he was 6 weeks old. It saved our life! This child was attached to either my husband or I for 24 hours a day. Using the techniques in this DVD made it easy for us to calm him and get him to sleep in his bassinet. I highly recommend this to any new parent. I intend on purchasing a couple of extra copies to give as gifts to my pregnant friends. Thank you Dr. Karp!!!
