#Looking, Feeling, and Being Beautiful (2008-11-29) Most people think that beauty revolves around such things as lipstick, sweet eyes, or skinny jeans--all these things that we can see (and obsess over) in the mirror. But the fact is that beauty isn t some superficial pursuit, and it s not some random act that you can thank (or curse) your ancestors for -- from inner flap of the book. In YOU: Being Beautiful the two doctors discuss the scientific standards to beauty. They divide them into three levels of beauty: 1. Looking Beautiful. The manes says it all - the authors tell you wh...
#Optimize Health and Optimize Beauty (2008-11-12) You: Being Beautiful could as easily have been called You: Being Healthy. Roizen and Oz write: We all want to look beautiful, feel beautiful, and be beautiful. I m not sure how many men would admit to that, but substitute feel my best and healthy for beautiful, and this describes the book. It is as much a book for men as it is for women, too. The book is divided into three sections:* Looking beautiful: ways to improve your external looks, your hair, skin and body*Feeling beautiful: what s inside counts. How to alleviate lethargy, de...

#Real Sex unleashes real pleasure... (2008-11-05) When I saw that Dr. Berman had written another book, I had to pick up--so glad I did! She really went all out on this one and explained so much to me. I found so much good, useful information that I will keep this one on my bookshelf indefinitely. So, if you re looking to spice things up or just want to have some better sex, this is probably the book for you. Another book I totally got a lot out of, too was Good Sex: A Woman s Guide to Losing Inhibition

#Phenomenal book (2008-11-25) I highly recommend this book. While the topic is quite scientific, the authorhas been able to engage the reader easily with compelling, memorable stories. A great eye-opener!
#An Insightful Read (2008-03-12) With roughly 260 pages and seven chapters (including the conclusion), Blink is a well-written and insightful book on the subject of accurate snap judgment or two-second of looking. This book gives us, the reader, a great deal of information about our moment to see things accurately, either in quick reaction, warnings, reading strangers, as it is very much like gut feelings or first impressions. I personally found this book to be quite fascinating and insightful to which I enjoyed both Gladwell s flowing writing style and his clear organization. It took...
#Revealing (2008-03-03) Another great book by Gladwell. The best part is that he explains why gut feelings may not be correct. Many people go to the bank with gut feelings and lose. Gladwell explains why. On the other hand some people do well with gut feelings. (All is basically the quality of the information that you store in your subconscious. ) An aha! type of book.
#At last! a twist to the old marketing idea (and other human topics)! (2007-12-10) Wow! Finally I get to read a book that shows the other side of this coin. M. Gladwell makes a superb work at giving a different idea of how we make judgements and therefore, how we can manage under certain circumstances those belly messages (according to his book, perhaps, only perhaps, we should give more credit to them than we do. . . ). Each reader can make his / her own interpretation of the cases presented and then, understand and apply to every particular experience. Every case presented in this...
#Insightful look at snap decisions (2007-11-08) No wonder this is a best seller. The author explains in an easy to follow way, the power of snap decisions and how they work. It shows how powerful and accurate instantaneous decisions can be, that we often are at odds to explain how we arrived at. Gladwell explains how these decisions are arrived at by the meticulous gathering of information by our unconscious. However they are not always accurate and this is largely due to bias, such as stereotyping and prejudices. No doubt hormones play a role in that bias too, such as when people ...

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change was a groundbreaker when it was first published in 1990, and it continues to be a business bestseller with more than 10 million copies sold. Stephen Covey, an internationally respected leadership authority, realizes that true success encompasses a balance of personal and professional effectiveness, so this book is a manual for performing better in both arenas. His anecdotes are as frequently from family situations as from business challenges. Before you can adopt the seven habits, you ll need to accomplish what Covey calls a paradigm shift--a change in perception and interpretation of how the world works. Covey takes you through this change, which affects how you perceive and act regarding productivity, time management, positive thinking, developing your proactive muscles (acting with initiative rather than reacting), and much more. This isn t a quick-tips-start-tomorrow kind of book. The concepts are someti...

#Not a Recommended Gift (2008-11-28) This book is outdated with white tower language. I would not recommend it for our workforce that is starting out. There are too many analogies that are disconnected from the actual concepts and lessons that we need to teach our workforce. Time is precious and if I have to go back and try to get the point, then I see no point in reading it. I would not recommend this as a gift.
#filled with important information (2007-12-02) Not that I m an expert in the subject, but I m guessing that this isn t your typical success book. In many ways it s a general purpose psychology book, dealing with such things as motivation, organizational skills, and how to deal with stress. It s chock full of seemingly unique information, and interesting quotes and tidbits. For example, it states Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success, leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall. The book isn t boring or repetitive, and is written i...
#A number of years (2007-11-03) I read this book a number of years ago as part of a semester long class with it as the main teaching tool. From what I remember it provides good insights into time management, prioritizing tasks and breaking down a goal into bite size pieces so that a person isn t overwhelmed by the size of what needs to be done.
#Mandatory reading (2006-12-06) This book should be mandatory study for everyone above the teen years. I have spent 3 years reviewing the principles off and on, and it has significantly changed my behavior and outlook. Covey draws on innate human traits of character, and shows how to use them to enrich your life. I can often tell when I have met a Covey student: they have an indescribable peace and glow about them. Warning: Do not just read this book once. You have to practice the principles and revisit the book to get maximum benefit. Ideal for a study group format.
#Exceptional, Life-changing and a Must have! (2006-07-09) I found the book incredibly useful in EVERY aspect of my life! It gives you tools (lists, diagrams, and organizer inserts) which are so useful and helpful in order to live a highly effective and rewarding life based on the strength of correct and time tested principles. Stephen Covey provides very personal examples of his effective growth change as well. I like authors who do what they preach! I am confident that other readers who follow Covey s advice will find their lives to be far more organized and satisfying. This excepti...

Women spend an extraordinary amount of money on cosmetics--$45 billion a year in the U.S. alone. Now in its fourth edition, Don t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me strikes fear in cosmetics-counter consultants everywhere. First off, Begoun has deconstructed ingredient lists. Ever wonder what methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben are doing in your mascara? And what is diazolidinyl urea? All four are potential irritants, and the latter is a preservative that can release formaldehyde, a class A carcinogen. Buyer beware. Begoun also lists which companies are cruelty-free and which continue to conduct animal testing. The majority of the book--and that s nearly 800 pages--is devoted to reviews of thousands of cosmetics, from cleansers, foundations, alpha-hydroxy acids, and moisturizers to lip liners, eye shadows, and concealers, all of which Begoun has personally tested. (There are no hair care products listed, as that warrants another book entirely: Don t Go Shopping for Hair...

#Bible for Beauty Junkies! (2008-04-14) I ve read Paula s book for about 10 years now. This new edition is great! Be sure to read the beginning of the book before reviewing the reviews - gives you a better background. She also has an extensive Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary at the back and there is lots of great info there. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a 50% coupon off the annual subscription rate for the online version of the book with ongoing updates and new products! (www. beautypedia. com) Reading Paula s books has saved me hundreds - if not thousands - of do...
#Good Resource and Information on Certain Products (2007-07-18) I have a love/hate relationship with this book. Often when I m looking into buying a certain product and I really want it, I am hoping Ms. Begoun has something good to say about it, but she often doesn t, lol. But all in all, I think if you re shopping for skin care and make-up, you MUST have this book. I don t always take her word for everything she states about a certain product, but it s nice to have her opinion before making such a expensive purchase. I highly recommend you have this if you are shopping for cosmeti...
#want a good book for skin care then don t read this book (2007-01-07) I have researched and read many books on this subject and I don t presume to write a book on the subject like this author does. I will recommend the best book I have read on how to take care of your skin and it is written by a Dermatologist who specializes in cosmetics. The book is called Skin Type Solution by Dr. Leslie Baumann. It is the best guide on how to pick skin care product for your skin type and she classifies skin into more than just oily, dry and combination skin types. It is the best 30$ I have ...
#Paula Begoun - the Kevin Trudeau of the Cosmetics Field (2006-09-16) You ve got to give this woman credit - she is one saavy marketer. Does she know skin care? Does she know science? Doesn t seem to matter. If possible I d give this tome - and all of Paula s publications, zero stars. The fact that the only line she recommends is hers says it all . . . I am another 50 year old woman who regularly is complimented on her skin. I ve been a cosmetics junkie since I was old enough to use a lipstick. How did I get my great skin? Trial and error, common sense, research AND, ye...
#A writer, not a cosmetic pro (2006-06-02) I have worked in the cosmetics industry for 12 years, and represent many brands. Ms. Begoun s biggest problem is that she only had about 2 weeks of experience before she was fired, and she seems to think that was enough experience to be considered an expert in the field. She tends to review products on ingredient lists alone, sometimes mistaking what the different ingredients are actually for. She has made herself a lovely career writing books about how not to get ripped off at the cosmetics counter, but I will tell you all you ever ne...
