#The Best Cookbook I have ever used! (2008-10-22) This is the best cookbook I have ever used, period. Mr. Smith s approach to cooking and a well rounded group of recipes make this a fantastic book to cook with. I have given 6 of them away so far when people compliment the food I have made from it. Colour pictures on every page and serve with recommendations make it just that much better. You have to try: the potato tart, watermelon salad, lobster mac and cheese and every other recipe in the book.
#Tasty and user friendly recipes (2006-12-20) This cook book is very accessible to trained cooks and those people who have less experience in the kitchen but are looking for some inspired recipes. Lobster mac and cheese are among the many great recipes in here, plus his suggestions for using jars for salad dressing and sauces. All of his salads are very tasty and were greeted warmly when I put them out for dinner! Smith encourages his readers to think outside the box and get creative in the kitchen. I think readers will be happy with this purchase as will the loved ones they cook/ba...
#Simple and great tasting home cooking (2006-04-22) I love how Michael Smith teaches and encourages young cooks to experiment with food and try new things. His enthusiasm for food is definitely contagious and creates an inviting atmosphere in which people can learn to have fun in the kitchen. And last but not least, his recipe for chocolate chip cookies is the best one I ve found! I ve been on the hunt for chewy chocolate chip cookies for the longest time and I ve finally found it. I m happy to have Michael Smith s Chef at Home cookbook as part of my cookbook collection.
#chef at home (2006-03-10) I loved this cookbook, easy to follow and every recipe is delicious. My family especially liked Michael',s Chicken Mushroom Stew,Brined Roast Chicken and Biscuit-Crusted Beef Stew. For the first time I made his Coconut Macaroons and they turned out.
#Recipes are Easy and Outstanding (2005-12-22) One of the things I have appreciated most about the approach that Smith takes in this book is the fact that he repeatedly invites and encourages would-be chefs to experiment and get creative in the kitchen, with both quantities and ingredients alike. As he states from the outset, the recipes included are merely guidelines. Nevertheless, if one follows the recipes as he has them so beautifully laid out, the reults are nothing less than scrump-diddily-icious! This book is highly recommended for those who don t have a lot of time to prepa...

#Never use it (2008-08-03) This book is interesting to read, but the recipes are too complex for everyday cooking. I ve had it for months and haven t used it yet although I cook almost every day. I suggest getting it from the library first.
#Eating healthy can be delicious??? (2007-02-12) Yes, the other reviews are true. The Rebar cookbook is amazing. I had to own it because I am a big fan of the restaurant and wanted to re-create some dishes when I am not able to visit Victoria. I was amazed at the diversity of the dishes in this cookbook. You will find recipes that take inspiration from Asian, Mexican, Italian, Indian, and Japanese cuisine with the occasional twist- like a perogy recipe thrown in! Usually I would say this would be disastrous. Who can combine that many styles in one cookbook and do it well? Well, Al...
#MY favourite cookbook ever (2006-11-21) This is the best cookbook I have ever bought (and I own a lot of them). While not heavy on pictures, recipes are easy to follow and guaranteed to taste amazing! I have not tried a recipe in it that I didn t like. Recipes are easy to adapt - so I can generally make them without needing an extra shopping trip (keep in mind I cook a lot so I have tons of ingredients in the house).
#best cookbook ever! (seriously!!!) (2006-09-01) i found out about this cookbook when i went to the actual rebar restaurant in victoria, bc (canada). i looked through the cookbook there, and with so many unique dishes, i had to buy it!this cookbook has NEVER disappointed me. i read the two really negative reviews on here and have to wonder what the people were doing wrong, or whether they just don t like all the flavours that are combined in the recipes. these recipes are usually very time consuming (but worth it and SO tasty), and call for a lot of ingredients (sometimes ones that a...
#Rebar: Modern Food Cookbook (2006-04-27) A must have cookbook for any health-minded kitchen. Each unique recipe I ve tried has been delicious and received great reviews from family and friends. The book is easy to follow, contains helpful hints and integrates a wide array of ingredients to suit all taste-buds (including finicky kids). You won t be disappointed.

Compiled by Elizabeth Baird, food and nutrition editor for Canadian Living magazine, along with her coterie of cooks from the CL test kitchen, this comprehensive soup-to-sweets collection of thrice-“,tested-till-perfect”, recipes includes step-by-step staff favourites as well as tasty contributions from some of Canada s pre-eminent food professionals. Whether it s basic Lentil Soup starring Saskatchewan s lauded legume or salt-rubbed Beef Tenderloin marinated in Worcestershire and scotch, each recipe is highlighted with informative icons (“,Quick,”, “,Make Ahead,”, “,Budget-wise,”, etc.). The dishes can be both provocative (“,Cornish Hens with Tuscan Touches”,) and enlightened (even old-school Liver and Onions gets a Continental kick using sage leaves and balsamico), and the pages offer up sidebars full of advice and ideas for substitutions, variations, and presentation. (One suggestion: cut a letter or number into a piece of cardboard, then hold...

#One of the Best Cookbooks Ever (2008-05-19) I am another person who absolutely loves this cookbook. I recommend it to everyone that I know. It has a diverse range of recipes and I like the way that there are tips in the margins and also variations on the recipes. I also have a large number of cookbooks and I usually reach for this one first when I am looking for a recipe. This would make an excellent gift for a wedding shower!
#Another great cookbook from the Canadian Living team! (2007-08-29) This is not a standard reference cookbook but a broad range of recipes with easy-to-follow instructions and test-kitchen-tested to be virtually goof-proof. I wish I d bought it when it was still out in hard cover because my paperback is so heavily used it will need replacing. The perogies and lemon squares are worth the price alone as classic Canadian recipes.
#Favorite Favorite Favorite Favorite Cookbook! (2003-01-30) This is the cookbook that I go to the most (and I collect cookbooks, so I ve got a million of them). Every time the recipes are perfect. It s quite like Mark Bittman s How to cook everything, but I seem to go to this one quite a bit more then the Bittmans. I use it so much that it s filthy with spilled sauce stains! No pictures, but the best basic how to cook anything book.
