Do yourself a favor: if you own a boat, you should also own the Boatowner s Mechanical & Electrical Manual. Written in a simple, accessible style, the Manual is aimed at helping the nonexpert solve problems in marine systems--think of it as a friendly mechanic. Author Nigel Calder explains how the systems work, helps you troubleshoot and identify problems, and presents clear and concise instructions on how to repair them. Best of all, Calder also offers helpful advice on how to prevent future system failure. Absolutely indispensable for boat owners. --M. Stein

#If You Could Only Have One Boating Book, this is the One (2004-05-11) If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take one CD with you, which one would you take and why? Years ago I used to listen to a program on the BBC that asked famous guests that question, only they said record, not CDs. Well I suppose I d take Bob Dylan s Blood on the Tracks if I were in that fix. And if I were to go to sea on a cruising sailboat and could only take one book with me, it would have to be this excellent, well written book by Mr. Calder. It s big, heavy, expensive and if yo...
#RV Repair Guide too. (2004-04-05) This is a very good book. Too many books only explain what is wrong and then instruct to perform a service without explaining specifically how. This book shows how with lots of illustrative photos and test data and detailed instructions for using test equipment. Practically everything in this book also applies to maintaining RV vehicles and trailers as well. I use it for my boat and RV.
#Essential Reading for Cruisers (2003-08-08) Having completed the our first year as full-time live-aboard cruisers, currently in the Sea of Cortez, we find that this book to be essential reading. The information is presented in easily understandable terms and sufficient detail to assist in solving most mysteries of marine systems. By it and take it with you!
#My highest recommendation, a must have! (2003-05-04) Even if you don t own a boat, if you love mechanical things you will appreciate this book. There is so much here that it makes the price seem a bargain.
#A must. Ready to sail off? Read this, before (2002-01-19) Too complex for non serious sailors. That s what s waiting for you out there. Think it twice, or practise everything in advance. Very useful to clear your mind, makes you get prepared. A bit outdated.

#Excellent coverage of fiberglass repairs (2001-10-04) Covers all the areas I needed. Soft & rotten cores, broken fiberglass, chipping, etc. I liked it so much I just ordered his book on refinishing.
#Sailboat Hull and Deck Repair (2001-09-06) Good book with understandable illustrations and practical suggestions.
#Lots of details in a small package (2000-08-22) This is an excellent book for someone who knows nothing about fiberglass boat repair. It starts off with a brief discussion of the three major sealant types (polysulfide, polyurethane and silicone) and when to use each. Other sections cover the different types of resin, epoxy choices, etc. etc. Excellent information when trying to decide which of the gazillion products to purchase in the boating catalogs. Major sections include Leaks (finding and fixing, installing deck hardware), Restoring the Gloss (polishing and scratch rep...
#Good buy! (1998-12-31) A very well illustrated and easy book which gave me a good understanding how to maintain and repair a fibreglass boat.
#what a relief (1998-06-10) With surprising (for a how-to book) and welcomed literateness, Don Casey instructs the cowering novice (me) in the black arts of fiberglass repair. Though I haven t yet proved his lessons in practice, I already feel more confident and competent. And isn t that what how-to books are all about?

#Know Your Diesel (2004-05-11) My copies of this book has grease stained fingerprints throughout. A lot of folks have told me they think this book is redundant, because much of the info is covered in Mr. Calder s Mechanical & Electrical Manual but this smaller book is easier to work with when working around your engine and the material is presented differently enough that the book is one I believe you should have if you live on a boat.
#Don t Leave The Dock Without it (2003-09-06) With this book aboard plus Peter Compton s ",Marine Diesel Engines", and your engine manual you can cruise with an easy mind. The first two books explain all aspects of diesel function as well as define any problem you may have, with diagrams, explanations, and tips to cope. Calder also has photographs. The engine manual shows you how this relates to your particular engine.
#Get to know YOUR engine !! (2003-07-15) As a new boatowner knowing next to nothing about engines this book has helped me identify key parts of my own engine and explain what their functions are. The book provides clear troubleshooting procedures (hope I will not need those since I intend to follow the suggested maintenance procedures instead) and information on how to diagnose different symptoms. The book is covering basic engine parts, more in depth explanations of engine parts, fuel system, how to troubleshoot start problems, diagnosing different sounds and symptoms, maintenance and...
#i need information about marin diesl engine (2001-08-16) i need mor information about marine diesl engine to study and take expariance
#Great Pics and troubleshooting (2000-06-13) Pics and explainations are top notch. The troubleshooting is good too. Not to many CAT pics mostly Volvo and Perkins, still the fundamentals apply across all diesels. Very Handy
