#Heartwarming and Inspiring (2008-11-23) Three Cups of Tea is the story of how one man can make a difference, and should be a lesson for all of us to never give up thinking that we can make a difference. This is an excellent story about an extraordinary individual and an incredible village most of us have never heard of before. This is a must read for any outdoor enthusiast, humanitarian, and just about anyone who genuinely cares about the world and all those living in it. For a great book of philosophy I recommend Understanding: Train of Thought.
#showed me the way to empower women (2008-11-03) Being born and brought up in Pakistan, this book touched the very cord of my heart. I had always wanted to do something to empower women in my birth country Pakistan and had understood that education is the key to all malaise. I had recently come up with a plan and intended to pursue it. It is no less than a miracle, therefore, for me to have this book Three Cups of Tea by accident in my hand as if to prepare me how to proceed with my plan. Being a women it is harder for me to pursue than for Mr. Mortenson, despite i being a Pakista...
#Massive Construction (2008-10-20) An absolute must-read. A massive construction tool for working with ignorance and generalized muslimophobia. Please read and share. . . The gentle way in which it s written makes it a great combination of an easy read and a harsh reminder of the power of the choices we make. Individually
#Eye-opening and inspiring! (2008-09-29) After reading this book, I felt like I had to tell everyone about it! This is an incredible story that will make you want to take action and make the world a better place. Greg Mortenson deserves to be recognized so that the war on terrorism can be fought peacefully-by teachers armed with pencils and books!
#One person can really make a difference (2008-09-14) As someone who grew up in Middle East I could really connect to the story of this great book. The message of the book is clear: the world would be a better place if we properly educate our children. The book tries to make this point by telling the story of children and people in Pakistan and Afghanistan. But what is more important to me is that it tries to educate people all around the world in another sense: that people, no matter where they are, deserve to be treated with respect. Lies that spread around by politicians and labe...

The best way to understand the dramatic transformation of unknown books into bestsellers, or the rise of teenage smoking, or the phenomena of word of mouth or any number of the other mysterious changes that mark everyday life, writes Malcolm Gladwell, is to think of them as epidemics. Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do. Although anyone familiar with the theory of memetics will recognize this concept, Gladwell s The Tipping Point has quite a few interesting twists on the subject. For example, Paul Revere was able to galvanize the forces of resistance so effectively in part because he was what Gladwell calls a Connector: he knew just about everybody, particularly the revolutionary leaders in each of the towns that he rode through. But Revere wasn t just the man with the biggest Rolodex in colonial Boston, he was also a Maven who gathered extensive information about the British. He knew what was going on and he knew exactly whom to tell. The phenome...

#Excellent Book (2008-03-03) In this book, Gladwell does a great job of explaining the tipping points of trends, fads, disease, etc, -basically any event imaginable. If we look close enough in our everyday lives we ll see the tipping point. After reading this book you should be able to see where it is exactly (almost) that mistakes are made, or good decisions are made. Great read -an eye opener for sure! (The idea is what attracts me as opposed to those that rate a book on the writing style, etc, especially for this style of information book. )
#I Just Tipped! (2008-01-17) When I published my own book a while back, my daughter gave me The Tipping Point to read. Even though I am a spiritual author, and generally only read books by other spiritual authors, I found this secular book to be very inspiring. In my work, I teach that there is a next right step that you are always being divinely guided to take -- a step that will help you fulfill your hearts desires in an effortless manner. That step is invariably a small step -- a tiny step, even. But those tiny steps, when taken one after another, prove to be miraculously effecti...
#The Hard Part Is Choosing What To Do First (2007-11-08) I was drawn into this book from the moment I cracked the spine. Each and every example had a very compelling start and story that left you wanting to talk to someone about what you had just learned. The topics are varied and range from Paul Revere s network to a syphilis outbreak in Baltimore to Blues Clues the children s t. v. program that made small changes to Sesame Street s premise and is revolutionized preschool education. Every time I took a break from reading I was thinking of how I could apply this the little things m...
#A fun and very interesting book (2007-05-30) I liked The Tipping Point very much. Gladwell does an excellent job explaining how Word of Mouth epidemics/Fads start, who contributes to creating it and who spreads the fad to make it known worldwide. I learned alot regarding teen smoking and how we have the power to counteract this horrible habit. In essence, Tipping Point is about social epidemics and how even the little things that people would seem to think are irrelevent may create big changes. Tipping Point is for the reader who is curious about how ppl think and how we as a whole...
#100 Monkeys Revisited (2007-03-31) Tipping Point is an excellent read. An engaging style sprinkled with humor and human interest make it flow easily. It reminds me of the concept of 100 Monkeys, whereby an idea gets to a critical point and suddenly becomes omnipresent. Anyone in business or marketing will enjoy the read and practical suggestions, direct and indirect, about promotion. Gladwell shows us all how easily our collective and individual psyches are manipulated. Budding psychologists and those interested in our inherent foibles will find the read entertaining and informat...

#A rallying cry for the small-scale farmer and the consumer (2008-05-25) This book could be broken down into three parts. The first few chapters document the shocking state of our current agricultural industry and in particular the ecological costs of our massive overproduction of corn and the consequences it is having on the beef we eat. The middle portion is a first hand description of one farm in particular that has bucked the trend and still remained viable. This is then expanded into a more comprehensive look at the organic food industry and how it is evolving. Finally the auth...
#A Wake Up Call (2008-04-16) Like An Inconvenient Truth, The Omnivore s Dilemma is a wake up call to the realities of the present day and a warning that our current lifestyles are unsustainable. The Omnivore s Dilemma brought to mind another book--the classic, The Grapes of Wrath (Centennial Edition)by John Steinbeck. Published in 1939, The Grapes of Wrath took place during The Great Depression. I recently re-read the book and was struck by how connected to the earth most Americans used to be. In the past two hundred years, America has gone from a mostly rural population to a country ...
#Modern North American discovers the reality behind his food (2007-09-24) This is the most basic culinary detective book. In modern America, Michael Pollan wonders what to eat: . . . imagine for a moment if we once again knew, strictly as a matter of course, these few unremarkable things: What it is we re eating. Where it came from. How it found it s way to our table. And what, in a true accounting, it really cost. Of course most North Americans can t answer these questions in any self-satisfying way, so Pollan sets off on the case. He journeys through the belly of the food indus...
#Great food and insight (2007-09-24) This book is fantastic for understanding where our food comes from, the history of it, and what options we have. It make me much more aware and curious about all these things.
#Much Depends on Dinner (2007-08-15) I haven t seen the book, Much Depends on Dinner by Margaret Visser, popping up in any of the you might like this book sections. She takes a meal and goes back through all this history, changes, developments, etc of each dish: chicken, corn, rice, salad, lemon juice, olive oil, and ice cream. Fascinating read. Her first chapter is all about Corn. I couldn t put it down.

#How Politics Should Work (2008-11-04) The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream is Barack Obama s second book, and it is his personal view of the direction that the United States needs to move in terms of the type of politics we practice. It is not a look at whether one should be liberal or conservative--though he certainly does speak to the liberal positions better than the conservative ones, but rather about moving away from the divisive politics which have become the norm in recent years. The book is only nine chapters long, as Senator Obama goes into some...
#A well-written and good book, but too often muddled in policitical comprimise (2008-03-07) Sen. Obama is more of a pragmatist than an idealist -- contrary to his inspired speeches. At best, he seeks to heal the partisan divide of U. S. politics for the common good. At worst, he comprimises too often (as I Canadian, I can relate to that) and he sometimes appears to want to please everyone. It is frustrating that his particular political mixture (a warmed-over Clintonism) is the only one realistically possible for Democrats to be electable in the U. S. at this time. . . Whethe...
#Excellent (2007-02-24) Sen. Barack Obama presents solutions to many of our country and world problems in an understandable explanation that I think will appeal to all levels of intellect. At the same time, I found eloquence in his writing style in many of his stories. In particular, I thought his contrast between flying in a private jet versus stomping the political grounds in his car was eloquent Those are the type of stories you don t hear flying 40,000 feet high in the air. . .
#He will lead us into a better world (2007-01-04) Above all, The Audacity of Hope gives us hope. Whereas only the churchgoer has his faith, Obama gives each one of us, hope. Not only for some of us, but for all of us. I see his counterpart in the world of religion, the 33 day pope who was also a monumental progressive (Lucien Gregoire s Murder in the Vatican: The Revolutionary Life of John Paul). When John Paul the First died, my hope for a more just church and a better world died with him. Gregoire brings him back to life in his brilliant biography. Obama brings him back to life...
#Refreshing (2006-12-11) Illinois Senator Barack Obama encourages Americans to put their political party affiliations aside while pushing for reforms. America seems to have lost it s political way along the road to the American Dream framed by the founding fathers in the Constitution. He offers no master plan or quick fixes, but salient critical thought and a start to fixing our problems. Instead of finger pointing, Senator Obama recognizes both his own flaws and blessings and the flaws and blessings of our current political system. He calls to return some integrity to politics by o...

#A well-researched account of today s youth (2008-11-04) For starters, I would say this book is somewhat more accessible than Don s previous book Wikinomics (with Anthony Williams - also a great read by the way), especially in terms of its mass appeal. Everyone knows some young people, so I thing everyone can relate. If you are a parent and you have Internet-addicted kids, this book will help you better understand where they re coming from. If you re an employer and you are looking for bright young talent, this book will help you attract and retain them. If you are a marketer and yo...
