#Not as good as its reputation, won t give you a razor s edge (2010-08-31) I ve hand-sharpened knives for 25 or so years now, and have tried nearly every sharpening system and sharpening materials out there. In all of my considerable experience (sorry if that sounds a bit cocky), nothing beats hand-sharpening on flat whetstones that have a high grit, or using a leather strop with jeweler s rouge to polish up an edge to a glass smooth, super razor sharp edge. I kept hearing such wonderful things from people about how good of a sharpener this AccuSharp 001 knife sharpener is, so I decided, since I really like to have very sharp knives, to give it a try. I own several other sharpeners like this, both in design and in material (tungsten carbide), and have never been satisfied with the edge they produce. Before purchasing this product, probably the best I had tried before were sharpeners like the Smith Abrasives, Inc. PP1 Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener, which has both a tungsten carbide sharpener to quickly get a semi-sharp edge, and also a ceramic bladed sharpener to finish, or polish the edge into sharpness. This AccuSharp 001 sharpener is actually the best product of this kind I have tried. Despite only having the tungsten carbide blades, it actually gives a good knife a decent edge. I tried this product on cheap 440A stainless steel (no name Wally World type knives), 440HC stainless steel (typical Buck knife blade material, which is pretty decent steel), to high quality blade materials like high carbon 1095 steel (Ontario, SOG, some Cold Steel, Spyderco, and a few others) and VG-1 and VG-10 stainless steels (again, SOG, some Cold Steel, Spyderco, Benchmade, etc). Even on high quality steel blades, this sharpener only delivers a decent edge. Not a razor edge, but a decent edge. No offense to the previous reviewer, I like to use a knife for its intended purpose. . . to cut through something with MINIMAL effort. . . which cannot be done without at LEAST a razor edge. Whether I m preparing dinner, to woodworking, etc etc, I simply must have a razor s edge at the least to work with, to make my work go easier. I have still found no better method that using high grit flat stones, followed by polishing with a leather strop and jeweler s rouge, to give me that super razor edge on good quality steel that I prefer to use. SO, if you only want a pretty decent edge to work with, then this product is, hands down, the best one to use to give you that decent edge. Just make sure you follow the instructions and only use very, very slight pressure, or you ll never get that decent edge. If what you want or need is a razor edge, or super razor edge, then this product will disappoint you. It all depends on what you want/need. But, again, as far as this type of sharpener goes, this is by far the best one I ve used.

Flea & Tick Spot On

#becareful when buying online (2010-08-28) My first experience with buying Frontline from an Amazon seller was great. It kept the fleas off the entire month for 6 months in a row. The second time, the Frontline I got must have been a fake and didn t work at all. At first I thought my dog was just rolling in a flea farm so after two months of applications, I took her to the vet for advice. My vet told me that the Frontline brand is extremely good, and since we apply it correctly, the only reason that it wouldn t work is if we got a bogus Frontline from an online retailer. So we switched to buying Advantage from my vet. I do not want to risk spending $70 on fake Frontline again.

#Frontline Plus NO LONGER WORKS FOR FLEAS on my dog! (2010-08-09) I have used Frontline Plus several for several years and thought it was a good product until last year when I had very limited success getting rid of fleas late in the season even though I had used Frontline Plus all summer. This year we have only one pet and I again bought Frontline Plus as well as Capstar pill before I saw any indication of fleas. Two weeks later there were a LOT of fleas and the dog is having a reaction. The vet suggested that they have had more complaints this year and they feel the fleas are developing an immunity to the product. The vet suggested trying a different product which I am currently doing. I called the Frontline Plus guarantee number and they were not helpful nor very nice. She said you had to use the product for three consecutive months to qualify for the guarantee. The flea problem has grown in two weeks at an unbelievable rate so what would it be in THREE MONTHS!!!! I felt I m entitled to a refund of at least some of the product or replacement product cost. I m not asking for refund of vet s bill for skin problems due to these fleas and the problem is getting worse since the fleas are worse. I m only asking for part refund of the product I purchased which is NOT inexpensive. Anyway, I suggest anyone who is thinking of using this product to think about the alternative products and stay away from this company as they have every excuse and NO real guarantee of anything. #DID NOT work for me & very deceptive satisfaction guarantee (2010-08-08) I am VERY disappointed with this product and the company (Merial) that makes it. I have a small 4. 5# dog (indoor except for pottying, 4 mos. old, only pet,) that has a mild case of fleas - no tics or other pests. After applying the product 2. 5 wks. ago and after one week following the application, I only saw a small reduction in scratching. Still found a few live fleas, it clearly did not work for MY dog. When I called the company re: their Satisfaction Guarantee prominently placed on their packaging, I was told that in order to claim a refund, I needed to use the product for 3 consecutive months before a refund would be considered! Nowhere on the box does it say that. When I mentioned that to them, they said that if I had gone to their website (which I never had nor had a reason to), it is THERE that I would have seen the limitations of their satisfaction guarantee. That s VERY deceptive and illegal to tie unwritten limitations on their packaging to their guarantee when it is not stated on their pkg. (What if their unwritten policy required 6 mos. usage, as an example, before refund is considered?) Satisfaction guaranteed means just that: if you re not satisfied (and I am NOT!), you get your money back. If the pkg. said, Satisfaction guaranteed AFTER 3 mos. of usage, I wouldn t be arguing here. They told me that Frontline was not designed to repel fleas, so it s of no help if another flea(s) comes around after application. It only will kill them once they are on the dog after a day or so, which it certainly didn t for me. To adhere to THEIR requirements of minimum 3 mos. usage means that my dog would have to continue to suffer scratching and itching for another 2. 25 months, which is ridiculous. I will NEVER buy this product again nor do I recommend it. If they are so deceptive about their Satisfaction Guarantee then what else are they deceptive about? (I have been told, but haven t verified, that Advantix DOES repel them so I will try that brand. Note added here: My reading the reviews of Advantix show a GREAT many severe reactions, even death, using that product - so no way. Seems Advantage might be much better to try, based on the reviews here. )

I have a young active puppy, who loves to roll around in the grass and all the other many things that young puppies love to do. With this product, I feel secure that I will not find any ticks or fleas on my puppy! Things have gone ridiculously well for Coldplay since 2002 s A Rush of Blood to the Head. The group s global album sales have soared past the 10-million mark, putting it in the same stratosphere as megabands U2 and the Dave Matthews Band. People have offered up their bank accounts, cars, and even bodies for tickets to its shows. And, in a interesting twist, frontman Chris Martin married Gwyneth Paltrow and set the tabloid world aflame. Funny thing, then, that the British quartet s much-anticipated third album, X&Y, is all about staying grounded. In the powerful opener, Square One, the singer insists people are fundamentally the same no matter what their stature: You just want... Somebody listening to what you say, he sings. On Fix You, Martin grapples with imperfection and missed opportunity: When you love someone but it goes to waste... Could it be worse? Meanwhile, the vibrant single, Speed of Sound, is all about reconnecting with the spirit and soul in the face of the paparazzi s flashbulbs. #I have the whole CD on repeat and can t get enough (2010-08-12) I absolutely love this CD. Coldplay is easily turning out to be one of my favorites. My first Coldplay CD was Viva la Vida, and I love every song on that CD - I even used Strawberry Swing in my wedding. I ve been working my way back through their CDs since. I ve always loved their singles on the radio, so I decided to pick up their most recent CD when I couldn t get enough of that song Viva la Vida. Anyway. . . . I can listen to their entire CD all the way through without wanting to change any of the songs. Perfect music to write to or work to or chill to, well, you get the idea. Lets just say they re a big deal for a reason. Those Brits know a thing or two about music.

#More Sideways Than Forward But Still Pretty Darn Good (2010-04-03) Musically, X&Y fails to break any new ground for the band but I would be hard pressed to call that a bad thing. However, the band has definitely come into their own in the realm of layering and production and the sonic maturity is evident throughout the album. Everything is bigger on X&Y. Coldplay knew they would be playing stadiums this time around and they wrote the album accordingly. You can almost hear the screams when the guitar lick from Talk kicks in - it s the tried and true Coldplay formula, now with bigger and better hooks. On the lyrical side of things Martin sticks to a theme of love and commitment along the album s journey. It s obvious that Martin is very much in love, specifically with wife Gwyneth Paltrow and his daughter Apple (must. . . resist. . . sarcasm), and he wears it on his sleeve on X&Y. Songs like Fix You and A Message read more like pages from a diary when you realize that these were written by a husband to his wife while she struggled to come to terms with the death of her father. It s voyeuristic almost to the point of being uncomfortable. Coldplay also one-ups themselves by writing another perfect song. On A Rush Of Blood To The Head they gave us Clocks which, in my opinion, was perfect in every way from music to hook to lyric. On X&Y, White Shadows has this honor. It s a rare thing when a song comes together in this way - even more rare for lightning to strike twice. But they aren t all winners. The band stumbles hard on the album s official closer, the meandering Twisted Logic. Thankfully it s redeemed with the hidden track Til Kingdom Come, a hymn-like acoustic gem that was originally written for Johnny Cash before he passed. Coldplay had their work cut out for them in creating a follow-up to perhaps one of the strongest sophomore efforts ever, the much-lauded Rush. While I truly believe that no band could have lived up to the hype set before them, I was a disappointed to see that Coldplay moved not forward with X&Y but sideways. As I said before, X&Y is a great album but for a band to truly be world-class they need to move forward - Coldplay took the safe route. (Until Viva La Vida, that is!)

#Not the best vinyl pressing (2010-02-16) I bought this in vinyl as it is a recording that I enjoyed as a CD and I ve been repurchasing some things in vinyl. While promoted as an audiophile vinyl product, it s a crappy Capitol pressing, punched off center, with poorly finished edges and label. Bad handling and packaging of vinyl by Amazon makes it all worse. FAIL.

#Mary Poppins keeps Poppin (2010-03-15) Who doesn t remember with fondness the film, Mary Poppins, It s almost a household name. What made this film so special was not only the casting of Julie Andrews and Dick van Dyke, but the immortal melodies of the Sherman brothers. This 2 CD set has all the music from the film, plus more. An extended journey, you might say. Complete with booklet containing all the lyrics to the songs and disc 2 has bonus material, including the Sherman brothers reminiscing over their work on Mary Poppins. So to relive the audio brilliance of Mary Poppins you just have to have this Soundtrack recording. I find myself continually playing this CD when I need a lift.

(2009-09-27) This CD is what one could call The Complete Poppins It has every single bit of music (underscoring and dance included) used in the final film and it sounds as fresh and lively as it did when I was a child. The second disc features interviews with P. L. Travers, who wrote the original Poppins stories, and the Sherman Brothers, who wrote the film. It is a fascinating look at a unique collaboration. All in all it is one of the best soundtrack re-releases I own. There s no hesitation for you in buying it (unless you re diabetic, then a spoonfull of sugar would not be a good thing - I kid, I kid - ok, ok send the veteran RN death threats).

Peter Pan has a special place in the realm of classic animated Disney films: it instills an element of childlike wonder. The 1953 version of James M. Barrie s story is colorfully told and keeps on the straight and narrow of the book. Barrie s wondrous focus on child s play is the key to its longevity: kids who don t grow up, shadows that run away from their owners, pirates, a fairy, and the magic ability to fly. In short, you can t help wishing the adventure would happen to you. Fueled by a few memorable songs (the stunner being You Can Fly) and the strong impression of the pixie fairy Tinkerbell and the goofy Captain Hook, Disney s version of this story neither supplants nor lessens the Broadway version with Mary Martin that was produced for television the same decade. Unlike some classics, Peter Pan never ages along the way. --Doug Thomas

#THE GOLDEN ERA OF DISNEY ANIMATION: PETER PAN (2010-08-27) It is easier to judge Walt Disney s 1953 animated adaptation of James Barrie s Peter Pan for what it is, rather than for what it is not. What the film gets right, it gets spectacularly right. Animation is, indeed, the best medium to capture the magical aspects of the story. The sequence where Peter Pan, Wendy, John, and Michael fly from London to Never-Land is stunning. It is almost immediately apparent why Peter Pan is one of the finest Disney films of the 1950 s. The film gains much of its appeal from the excellent vocal performances of Bobby Driscoll (Peter Pan), Hans Conreid (Mr. Darling and Captain Hook), Kathryn Beaumount, (Wendy) and Bill Thompson (Mr. Smee). The story has plenty of action and adventure, and moves along at a brisk pace. The depiction of the Indians as caricatures instead of characters is painfully, politically incorrect. But one must remember the era in which this film was made. It would be decades before Cathy Rigby s stage revival of Peter Pan would correct this sticky situation. But, as the stage and animated films are completely different mediums, the point is moot. The Disney version of Peter Pan is an artistic triumph. It is often delightful, but it is only about fun and games in Never-Land. While Disney captured the magic and fantasy brilliantly, he never grasped the darker, psychologically complex aspects of the story. The Disney version captures Peter Pan as the spirit of youth, joy, and freedom, but lacks the emotional depth of Barrie s original story. The great villain Captain Hook clearly represents the adult, father figure who must be destroyed because he s a threat to all the fun and games. There s no romantic tension between Peter Pan and Wendy. There is no acknowledgement of Peter s lonliness or the things he will never have. At the end of Barrie s play, Peter Pan returns to the nursery and discovers Wendy is now a grown-up adult. Disney completely ignored Barrie s ending, and all of its bittersweet implications. The DVD features an excellent audio commentary by the late Roy Disney, (Walt s nephew), film critic Leonard Maltin, several of the animators, Margaret Kerry (the model for the hot-tempered, jealous pixie Tinker Bell), Kathryn Beaumount-- and even some surprising comments from Walt Disney himself. The short featurette The Making Of Peter Pan and the longer documentary The Peter Pan That Almost Was, are especially informative and entertaining. The brief life of Bobby Driscoll, more tragic than magic, is a sad footnote to Peter Pan. Driscoll, who received a special Academy Award for his role in the suspense-thriller The Window, made immeasurable contributions to the success of Disney s Song Of The South, So Dear To My Heart, Treasure Island and Peter Pan. After his Disney contract was dropped (the same month, incidentally, that Peter Pan was released), Driscoll descended into drug addiction and spent some time in prison. Driscoll died in 1968, alone and peniless, at the age of 31. Of his movie career, Driscoll remarked, I was carried on a satin pillow. . . and then dumped into the garbage. Magic and happiness, it often seems, exist only in the movies.

The songs and music in 101 Dalmatians is so good it makes you want more and more. Every time I watch this movie it gets better and better. #Another Disney classic you should own (2010-08-25) As a kid, I could not wait for The Wonderful World of Disney to come on every Sunday evening. Better yet was when my parents would take us to see a Disney movie when it came to the theater. 101 Dalmatians has always been one of my favorites and now I get to share it with my grandchildren. To me, there is no better way to spend an evening than to watch my grandchildren as they get lost in the movie and the action. One look at their faces and I know that they are hooked on Disney just like I was as a child and still am. 101 Dalmatians and all of the Disney classics will be around for generations to come. Buying the DVD on Amazon put a smile on my face because of the savings. Even though I purchased this item as used, it looked brand new when it arrived.

The Music Man was one of the last great movie musicals from any studio, and it proved to be that rarest of events: a Broadway show that was measurably improved by its transition to the screen. Robert Preston made his musical debut--both live and on film--as Professor Harold Hill, the upbeat charlatan who promises to teach a small-town boys band by the think system. But it s the part Preston was born to play and the one for which he will always be best remembered. Composer Meredith Willson based The Music Man on his own small-town Midwestern boyhood, circa 1912, a quasi-mythical place where the old-maid librarian looks and sings like Shirley Jones. The boy himself is an adorable Ron Howard, lisp-singing Gary, Indiana. Willson s entire score, featuring a combination of what are now standards, such as Goodnight My Someone and Till There Was You and show-specific numbers (Trouble, 76 Trombones), is never less than infectious. This dazzling special edition is also as bright and sunny as any 4th of July in Iowa could ever hope to be. --Robert Windeler

#One of the most enjoyable movie musicals ever... (2010-07-25) It seems that no other Broadway musical was ever transferred so intact to the screen with every facet of its production gleaming and gloriously theatrical in its staging. River City, Iowa, of course, looks no more realistic than the Land of Oz, but that s how it should be. It s satire, and thankfully director Morton DaCosta keeps it all in tip-top shape, preserved to play exactly as it did on stage, even with respect to the opening number aboard a train where all the salesmen are singing about a certain scoundrel posing as a professor of music. Meredith Willson s music never sounded as good and is given expert singing and dancing from ROBERT PRESTON, SHIRLEY JONES, PAUL FORD and HERMIONE GINGOLD in the leads, all of whom are aided and abetted by some of the best singing and dancing you could ask for in a musical of this kind. Gingold is outrageously funny and Paul Ford as her husband, the Mayor of River City, is equally boisterous in a comic role. One of the most cleverly staged numbers is the Marian, The Librarian number that takes place in the town library where sliding poles and balconies become part of the intricately staged dance routine. All of the musical numbers are performed with professional charm by a talented group of actors/singers/dancers who are part of the River City citizenry. Little Ron Howard, the boy with the lisp, who later went on to directorial fame, is a standout as Jones little brother. Summing up: Outstanding old-fashioned musical with its heart in the right place--Americana in the best tradition of the word. Summing up: It has more charm than the law allows.

Chock full of problems (2010-09-02) *** This review may contain spoilers ***OK, count me in the number that could stand to never see the whole Twilight franchise again. It s everywhere: web ads, bookstores, fricken Nordstrom. It s been very hard to avoid everything Twilight. So last night, it was on Showtime On Demand, and I decided to finally watch. First off, Kristen Stewart s Bella was incredibly deficient in the personality department. Did she have a lobotomy? I mean, granted, it s been 8 yrs since my teen stage (I m 26), but good grief, her perpetually depressed and moody face bugged me. We had Emo kids in my high school, but even they could crack a joke every now and then. She literally had no presence. In my high school, she would have been the new kid for a day, but nobody would have talked to her bc she looked so depressing. It was hard to believe that there were guys already crushing on her. Why? She wasn t all that nice to anyone, she barely talked, the friends she had, the relationships seemed more one-sided than anything. Next Edward. I will say that RP is a nice looking guy, but all the fangirl (not just teen girls, either) swooning is a real turnoff. Anyway, when Edward first came on screen, I had high hopes, but when he actually spoke, I was like um, is he slow? It was as if he had a speech impediment. I had to rewind it to hear it again, and then proceed to laugh. Edward was also a bit of a stalker. I guess if I were 14, I would be turned on by his behavior, but being an adult, I d be concerned about why he was following me places. And don t get me started on how he admitted he likes watching her sleep. Which brings me to another point. I get that the author wrote the novel based on a (obviously Fabio-esquire)dream she had, but she played way fast and loose with the vampire details. Perhaps the fact that the guy in her dream was a vampire was secondary. I literally asked my friend OK, are they vampires or some type of animals? The pale faces weren t enough. I could not believe that it wasn t clear that they were vamps. Then when I saw they didn t have fangs. . . WTF!! And they must be the only set of vamps that don t combust when out in the daylight. The sparkle was SO CHEESY. I know I m giving spoilers, but 1. I marked the review w/the spoiler tag and 2. if you like vampire-based stories, you will be sorely disappointed. Back to my point, when Bella discovers what Edward is, he gets all serious and they focus on his face, but he reveals no fangs!! WTF! Fangs are so basic to vampires. Then I read a reviewer that says they don t have them? Is this for real? The baseball game. . . come on. What fun is it if you can just fly and catch the ball. Cheesy. BTW, the whole family structure was a tad creepy. The conflict lasted probably 15 minutes and was over so fast. It s less of a vampire story and more of a teen angst/Degrassi-style movie. And don t get me started on Bella wanting to be turned after her association with Edward nearly gets her killed and she s only known him a couple weeks!!Someone else had it right: they seemed less like vamps and more like supernatural creatures. If they could walk into anywhere uninvited, didn t burst into flames, can t be staked, etc etc, then what makes them scary? Since when are vampires nice? Even back on Buffy, Angel became Angelus and Spike w/his chip still had his bad boy tendencies. More recently, Damon on Vampire Diaries is straight up evil and doesn t make excuses for himself. Stefan, his brother, is also part of this neutered dog trend (like Edward) which is quite ridiculous if they are supposed to be vamps. So watch the film (for free on TV) but keep your expectations low. Just think of it as a teen flick NOT a vampire flick, and you should survive. Before I forget, that bluish-tinted filter that Twilight was filmed in was awful. Just awful. It almost hurt my eyes. Sometimes that adds effect to the film/show, but not when it s that noticeable. It was almost as if it was done to make all the characters seem even more pale and emo. Horrible.

The two main characters have the chemistry equivalent of rust, and the film itself the charisma of Ben Stein s character in Ferris Bueller s Day Off. Between the choice of watching this writing-deficient offal again and committing suicide, I d really have to think long and hard which I d choose. Final review: 122 minutes of pure unadulterated suck punctuated by numerous periods of mind-numbing boredom. I ve seen the previews to New Moon by the way, and, though I haven t seen it (and never will), judging from the previews, I m pretty sure the filmmakers have outdone themselves with an even worse film. One wonders how that was even possible.

Watching the Fresh Water and Mountain episodes, a couple personal favorites, is an awe-inspiring, emotional, and simply fun experience. Standing in front of the TV screen during the scenes with huge high-definition shots of beautiful snow-covered peaks and foaming waterfalls makes me feel as if I m right there. I would highly recommend this product. The only thing is that there was a bit of a delay with the delivery, and it came more than a week past the last day in the estimated arrival time. However, once it came, I can honestly say that I was impressed.

The version I bought from Amazon. co. uk contains five discs. The last disc includes two topics: Desert Lion and Snow Leopard. Each is about 40 minutes or so. However, both BBC Blu-ray versions are missing the behind scene/special features included in the DVD version. This is a big disappointment. What s more, this series was shot with a lower grade HD specification - 1080i (also known as 720p) instead of 1080p. 1080p was mistakenly printed on the covers of earlier boxes but this error was later fixed. All the boxes now have the correct format (1080i) listed. Whoever said that 1080i (720p) is visually undetectable compared to 1080p either has eye problem or is using a small TV. On a 40 or larger TV, 720i is noticeably grainier than 1080p. Compare Planet Earth with the new BBC series Life which was shot in 1080p, the difference is quite obvious. Overall, this BBC production is fantastic, like many of the other series they did. If I am rating the DVD version (which I also own), I will give it five stars. But for the Blu-ray version, I have to cut it by two stars for its missing the special features and using the lower grade HD format.

#Useful product for teaching kids (2010-08-14) I did a lot of research on what to give my nephew as a gift. Finally I found this planet earth and was amazed about the reviews. so I went ahead and bought it. It was truly a good product. It helped to keep my 2 year old nephew quiet at least for a short period of time. Kids like to see animals and birds. It improves their understanding of nature. The camera work and the narration are extremely good. I haven t yet completely watched the entire series but I liked the portion that I watched. I am sure that this will be better in a Blue ray. . . Please buy it for your kids and yourself too. It is lot of knowledge.

Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) plays the title character, who video-blogs about his twin goals to join the Evil League of Evil and to woo the fair Penny (Felicia Day, of Whedon s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Web series The Guild), a woman he met at the local laundromat. Dr. Horrible is foiled on both fronts, however, by his arch-nemesis, the self-absorbed superhero Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion, Whedon s Firefly).Dr. Horrible was written by Whedon, his brothers Zack and Jed, and Jed s fiancee Maurissa Tancharoen, and the songs were written by Joss and Jed (who also produced, orchestrated, played, etc.) with some lyrics by Tancharoen. (Jed and Tancharoen have backup singing roles.) The offbeat, off-the-cuff humor is laugh-out-loud funny, and just like Dr. Horrible wants to take over the world, the songs will take over your head: they re engaging (My Freeze Ray), stirring (My Eyes), and sweet (Penny s Song). So They Say is particularly evocative of Jonathan Larson s Rent, but as with Joss Whedon s musical episode of Buffy, Once More with Feeling, the influences are diverse. It s hard to imagine a better cast. #Amazing display of Whedon s genius (2010-09-03) I first saw this at school. A classmate of mine brought it to class and we watched between our classes. I honestly didnt pay much attention to it the first time. But a few weeks later I saw it on here and decided to buy since I needed my order to over $25 so I could get free shipping. It was the smartest thing I ever done. I loved Whedon s Buffy and watch it regularly so I was familiar with his stuff. After watching Dr. Horrible about 10 times in a row I knew all the words to all the songs. The story is easy to follow and quickly engaging. Dr. Horrible is the villian but you immediately fall for him. Captain Hammer is arrogant in the best way possible. And while Penny isnt my favorite in the movie, Felicia Day is an amazing actress. Recommend this to everyone you know. Very funny, witty, and entirely magical.

#Joss Whedon is Phenomenal... Yet Again! (2010-08-26) I originally bought this as a gift for my best friend, who had introduced me to Dr. Horrible when it first came out. The next holiday season, he ended up giving me another copy so that I could have one as well. I m going to start off by saying I m a huge Joss Whedon fan. From Buffy, to Angel, to Firefly, Serenity, and Dr. Horrible, I love it all. I believe this man is amazingly talented. But I m going to try to review it as unbiased and fairly as possible (from this aspect, at least. )First off, I ll talk about the casting. The main character, played by Neil Patrick Harris, is actually my favorite male actor. Again, I m biased. He s funny, handsome, charming, and can fit into lots of roles. He s an amazing actor (how many gay men can make hundreds of thousands to millions of people think that they re a manwhoring womanizer?) and very versatile and silly. (side note: He s actually a magician, too!) As Dr. Horrible, he is able to encompass the role of deadly serious, evil (but in a sort of silly way), and comedic. He s also got a very, very nice voice. Felicia Day is, quite possibly my favorite female actress (Again, I ll try to remain unbiased. ) She s cute, quirky, and managed to capture the optimism and benevolence of Penny beautifully. Her voice, while not the absolute best I ve ever heard, is quite nice, and neither her voice nor her looks are hard on the eyes. Nathan Fillion is great, too. Playing Captain Hammer, he is hilarious as he exudes extreme narcissism (quite well, I may add. Have some real life practice in this, Nate?) as well as a playing a good-looking antagonist. The funny thing about this is that the protagonist would usually be the good guy-- Captain Hammer, in most movies-- and the bad guy (Dr. Horrible) would be the antagonist. However, here it is reversed, with you choosing to favor and root for the bad guy, making the antagonist Dr. Horrible. The plot is nice, not too deep, and great, if you like musicals. Be prepared to break out giggling repeatedly and want to listen to the soundtrack (which you can also purchase. ) For anyone, Whedon fanatic or not, who likes silly things and musicals, I would definitely recommend Dr. Horrible s Sing-Along Blog.

#This Makes Me Wish For Another Writers Strike (2010-08-25) Dr. Horrible s Sing-Along Blog was conceived as an online phenomenon during the 2008 writers strike, and since most screenwriters never produce anything worth looking at anyway, I found myself doubly drawn to this brilliant little film. Directed and largely written by Joss Whedon, and starring Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, the film is a musical romp through the world of evil science and the emotionally stunted scientists who live there. Dr. Horrible, of course, has plans for world domination, but is equally enamored of Penny (Felicia Day,) the fellow laundromat user of his dreams. Foiling Horrible s nefarious plans is Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion,) and the musical mayhem that ensues is nothing short of inspired genius. The film at 42 minutes is very short, but includes numerous wonderful extras that make this more than worth the money in any format. Commentary! The Musical includes more new music from the cast and creators. There s also a commentary track with the cast and creators, a making of feature, and assorted other documentation on the League of Evil. This DVD shows that smart and talented people can make an excellent and entertaining movie without any of the corporate or union trappings of conventional Hollywood productions, and I admire the skill and daring of the creators, cast, and crew. I am no particular fan of musicals as a rule, but I am making a very rare exception here, and I give Dr. Horrible s Sing-Along Blog an unequivocal recommendation.

#I laughed from start to finish (2010-08-23) I had heard of this from a friend but was hesitant in buying it because I knew so little of it. I had some extra cash this payday and picked it up on bluray. I watched it Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It just had me laughing every time I watched it and the extras on the DVD are great to watch. Definately watch it with the commentary after you have already watched it once. PLOT: As we first meet Billy (Dr Horrible), we actually like him. As the story progresses, situations (relationships) seem to turn for the worst and he slowly begins to be the Dr Horrible he was meant to be and becomes the enemy we can learn to dispise yet still root for. The contraversy over if the product is made in DVD-R or pressed DVD is a redundant issue. Take care of your DVD s and don t buy a cheap DVD player. Most DVD players will play either version so it is a non-issue which format it is made in. If a person buys the cheapest DVD player they can find and it won t play DVD-R, you got what you paid for.

I did not realize that they offered a Subscription Service where you can have certain items shipped to you on a monthly basis. Actually, you can receive stuff every 2, 3 or 6 months. Well, with a staple item like batteries, I was thrilled to find that they offered the Duracell Coppertop Double A battery in this special service. Having a busy family (with 2 kids ages 12 & under) we burn through batteries. We use them for everything from remotes to toys to flashlights and clocks, etc. It is a pain to pick them up at the store, and not always easy to find a good price on the Duracells. Especially during summers here in South Florida, we get a lot of tropical thunderstorms. Just this afternoon, our power was out for about 2 hours. I normally drink it with 4 oz regular room temperature water, and it still tastes great! Ive also had it blended as a smoothie with banana and soy milk and its even better. #GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60 is better (2010-08-27) I started working out a year ago, starting with GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60. It s much lower cholesterol and fat than Syntha-6. I lost 5 lb of fat and gained back 9 lb of muscle in 6 months with Wheybolic Extreme. Healing time was always less than 24 hours. It tasted like a rich smooth milkshake. Then I switched to BSN Syntha-6 because it was almost half the price of Wheybolic and I was recommended it by a huge bodybuilder. The mochaccino flavor is pretty good, but is chaulkier than Wheybolic. It s not a perfect milkshake consistency. Recovery time was almost extended to 3 days - that s like as if I wasn t taking any protein at all. I also have not gained a single pound in the the past 3 months with Syntha-6. It just doesn t work. I also looked up Consumer Reports 2010 on protein powders. Syntha-6 contains many small, but legal, doses of poisonous metals. Wheybolic does not. I m pretty sure I m going back to Wheybolic.

(2010-08-28) Like all of the other one-star reviews for this product, I, too, also received what I later found out to be a counterfeit product, which I only discovered after researching online why my first of three refills only lasted a few days before completely falling apart in my mouth and cutting the inside of my mouth once or twice beforehand. There s a reason why these cost only a few bucks a piece online whereas Target charges ten bucks for the same. I m shocked that Amazon continues to allow these to be sold.

#For the KSO Trek Vibram Five fingers (2010-06-05) I have had a pair of vibram five fingers KSO treks for about two months. I love the shoes which recently started causing blisters in certain areas. I broke down and started buying these socks which have not disappointed. They have eliminated the foot odor in these leather shoes as well as provided a comfortable snug fit for me. Granted, all feet are different and I tend to have some long skinny toes. These stretched to fit comfortably. They seem to be made of quality material. I would not run around sock-footed in these since carpet will ultimately wear holes in them. So far I have machine washed them multiple times and they have retained their shape without stretching. These socks are great to use even if you do not have a pair of vibrams. They work well in regular shoes. I have even worn them in insulated boots.

So far, it holds up to my 5 year old and my 14 month old who both play with it. It is cute and cuddly and she can easily fold it up herself. I love that the hook and loop closure has a cover over it when not in use so it will not snag anywhere else. Very soft and looks well made. I also do not know if kids of all ages will like this. #Battery drain (2010-07-31) It looks great but it goes through batteries like crazy. It is really inconvenient to have to take it off the wall and turn it on every time you want to use the remote. It only stays on for a few minutes before the light goes out but within a couple days if you don t turn it off on the back of the moon, the batteries go dead. #After 4 months --FIVE Stars (2010-08-28) This is my first navigation device. I have taken it now to the following states- CA, AZ, WA, CT, RI, MA, NY and it has worked beautifully in every situation. Simple to use, super accurate, and just plain awesome. In fact, I am looking at new cars at the moment and everything I am considering has a built in navigation system. None of these car brands (Jaguar, Porsche, MBZ and BMW) have navigation systems as good as this little Nuvi! It is incredible that for $100. 00 you can get such a useful and high quality product. I have the Nuvi voice set to Samantha with an Australian accent. She is my little companion as I drive and, don t tell my wife, but I think she might have a little crush on me.

#an old couple s deliverance (2010-08-20) we love our garmen. it saves time and fights. there are so many reviews about the details that i won t elaborate on them. just that it s not only reliable but fun, and like others, we gave our recalulating lady a name. the price is right on amazon. do get the beanbag friction holder extra. it s worth it for easier moving and makes the garmen much more accomodating to both people in the front seat. we didn t like the way the suction would suddenly come apart on the windshield and the garmen would drop off. to avoid this, the beanbag holder is the ticket.

#Chose this over a lot of others (2010-08-18) I did a lot of research when looking for a receiver to replace my factory unit in my 2000 Miata. I wanted to be able to play my iPod video and use a USB thumbdrive without getting into a lot glitz. For the money this Kenwood is a solid buy. Pros:-I love the power this puts out. The clarity of the music that I get even with the top down is fantastic. -The controls are fairly intuitive and I like that it has hard buttons which are easy to find and use while driving. There is a small learning curve as far as customizing your settings, but it s fairly straightforward. The main rotary knob has a solid feel to it and is easy to adjust while driving. -The display is simple without a lot of dancing lights and so on. -Hooks up easily with my iPod, scrolls through all the normal iPod settings: Genre, artist, albums, etc with ease. -The Ipod also charges when hooked into the USB port. -The USB port has a cover which feels solid when moving it. -Don t know how much I ll use the remote, but it is nicely designed and feels well made. Cons:-Sunlight seriously wipes out the display screen, making it difficult to read without straining your eyes. -The unit activates my power antenna whenever it s turned out, even if the radio isn t engaged. I don t love having the antenna constantly up. For the price, I m well pleased with this Kenwood. I looked around, and couldn t find a receiver that would solve all my wants in this price range. The Kenwood seems like it s well made, it handles lots of formats and is easy to use. All in all a good receiver.

#Couldnt have expected less from kenwood (2010-08-17) I made a purchase from Nigeria on 20th July, got it delivered at a friend s place in Maryland third day. Installation was quite easy, navigation is wonderful, works as designed. The only negative side is that when a thumb drive hangs on and you decide to listen to the tuner/CD, if you switch off engine and restart, the unit defaults back to USB even though you were not on USB mode. This is strange, hope Kenwood would do something about this. Notwithstanding, it s the best you can get for that price anywhere.

#NUVI 465T (2010-08-29) VERY GOOD PRODUCT!!! JUST A LITTLE COMPLICATING ON HOW TO SET WEIGHTS AND ALSO SAYS NOT A PREFERRED TRUCK ROUTE A LOT. . . .

#Does the NUVI 465T pass the test? YES!!! (2010-08-28) Well, I am a long haul trucker and a pilot as well. The first thing to get out of the way is the argument as to whether to use it or not. My philosophy is that it is yet another tool to navigate with, along with maps, compass, stars and anything else you want to navigate by. I would not suggest that this retires anything before it so lets not get into that match. What it does do is get you from A to B very nicely. It is like having someone in the seat next to you telling you to turn here or there and get set in the proper lane. It knows your speed, direction, when you stop, start or get off on the wrong path. I have used it extensively in the car and truck. Of course, when used with the truck it allows input of all the necessary information such as weight, height, width, length, pulling one or multiple trailers, HazMat, etc. Based upon those inputs, it is designed to keep you off of roads that you shouldn t be on. I have been using it about a week with the truck and it has not steered me wrong yet. Most certainly, the biggest benefit is when you are in unfamiliar places, it may be dark or busy, and you need something to help you safely navigate that last bit of territory. Well folks, it is worth its weight in gold in that respect. In a car it is just a hassle to get lost or off on the wrong road. In a big truck, it can be a disaster. A ticket or wreck would buy this device several times over when it is said and done. I will always be in favor of anything that reduces our workload in that truck so that we can concentrate on what is around us. This unit fits that bill very nicely and accomplish other tasks as well such as, finding points of interest, restaraunts, banks, atms, etc. It seems to do what it was designed to do very well and I can highly recommend it.

#Very Nice GPS for Trucks (2010-08-01) I m a local driver that operates within a 200 air-mile radius of my home terminal. I find myself going to shippers and receivers i ve never been to on a daily basis. I bought this GPS to save me 15-20 minutes each trip trying to find directions. The iPhone is very helpful in finding directions with the exception of truck routes, and the occasional loss of signal, The Qualcomm is less than helpful with directions like turn north on This Street or Its by a thing that is somewhere near thereWith the GPS I ve used it now for several days, and admittedly it DID direct me down a 10ton weight limit road, it was in fact MY FAULT. 2 major mistakes i made with this GPS: 1) first time i used it, i found directions online, wrote them down, and took them with me. got near my destination, gps said go left i said my directions say right. . dumb thing is wrong already . . . . it wasn t. i was wrong. . don t doubt the accuracy of it. 2) the directions it gave me to get to a certain customer, i thought for sure i knew a quicker way so i attempted to go down that way instead and hope it re-routes me. . . . it did, it re-routed me BACK to the original route it wanted me to take. . . that i should have listened to. thus i got myself in a bit of a pickle. luckily i didn t get caught and it worked out well. Since then i have been trusting it to get me where i need to go, no questions asked and it has done a fantastic job! The traffic receiver is a great help because it tells me when theres traffic ahead (9/10 times) and/or you can see all the traffic tieups along your route and choose to avoid them if you desire. It informs you of how long a delay you may face, and adjusts your ETA accordingly. Another neat feature is the Speed Limit icon. That i have noticed is 100% accurate. It informs you of the speed limit of the road your on, even when it changes as soon as you pass the new sign, the icon changes to show you the new speed limit. great for those long roads with little sign-age. Even if you know where you are going i recommend just leaving it on, seeing what roads are around you, and traffic warnings. It has some, not all, steep down-grade warnings that uses an alert tone to inform you its coming up, if you click on the icon (at a safe moment) it will tell you how far ahead and what % it is. Same for Narrow Roads and Sharp Turns. However this database needs to be updated. Probably a WIP (Work-In-Progress)Construction, Ramp, and Road closures do seem to be quite up-to-date, several areas that have road closures due to long term construction, it clearly shows you a do-not-enter symbol along with a red-highlight on that road informing you you cannot use it, AND it automatically routes you to the detour that the signs direct you to go. Daylight or Nighttime i can see the screen very clearly, and even in the old rickety Volvo i can hear her voice clear, provided i don t have the radio blasting and the CB way up. a comfortable level on all 3 work perfect. The only real Con i see to this is: custom routing. I would like to see an update much like Google Maps has where i can drag the route or change the route easily. Right now to do that i would need to add destination and choose an intersection say Rt28 & Rt8 to get it to guide me the way i d prefer to go. Although i find that if you know most of the route, wait until a convenient time to set destination and have it route you from where you are once you are close to the desired location. So in conclusion, I highly recommend this for professional drivers who need a co-pilot or navigation aide. Keep in mind however it is NOT perfect, it does NOT know every single sharp turn, steep downgrade, narrow road, weight limit or low bridge warning in the world. NOONE DOES. So do not jump into this thinking its flawless. Remember YOU are the driver, and it is your responsibility to pay attention to posted warnings and not rely solely on the GPS to tell you what to do.

#Regret Purchase!!! (2010-08-01) This unit was purchased from Amazon and filled by J&R. First of all the purchase and delivery went fine, BUT since 2/2010 have had to have 2 relacements and now the 3rd unit has died. J&R asked asked for a review, but when it was negative they didn t post it on their website. I have no problems with the features or functionality of the device, I have another 2yr old Garmin I keep having to go back to. What you need to look out for is if unit says something like cannot calulate route or no roads from starting point it is about to become useless or die altogether with a white flash, then GARMIN on screen, then flash again over and over. This is really strange that I have 3 units with basically the same problems and not mentioned that much online. I can t be that unlucky. I believe the entire model has problems and am going to try to get my money back from Garmin, because I am tired of throwing good money after bad on shipping and insurance plus the hassle of updating, reentering information, & etc.

#highly overrated (2010-09-02) Although I am not really a mystery fan, if a book is well written, I am more than happy to dig in. With all the hype surrounding this series and friends who loved this book I was really hoping to enjoy this book. I thought it would be somehow different. From the very beginning I found it to be quite formulaic, very much a mystery novel. Which is fine if that s what you re in to. The title character is interesting, and parts of the book are engrossing, but on the whole I found it to be very unevenly written and really not that good. I liked the second book even less. I was really expecting more.

#The next one is even better (2010-09-02) The first half of the book is tough to get through and I almost gave up but my wife pushed me on promising it gets better and books two and three in the series are must reads. And so many people were raving I figured I couldn t just give up. I m glad I kept going. There are just so many characters with difficult Swedish names to track that is what made the first half of the book tough for me. . . . but once I got in the groove there was no looking back. The next book in the series is better. . . (I saved it for precious vacation / beach reading)and I look forward to number three!

#wooden characters, plodding plot (2010-09-02) I am so glad that I finally found some bad reviews for this book. I was beginning to feel like a pariah--sort of like how I felt when I appeared to be the only person in the world who hated the movie, PRETTY WOMAN. With all due respect to those who have practically a cult-like love for this book--I just don t see the appeal. -----------These examples may contain some spoilers------------------------------Our hero is a man-bimbo who is simply irresistable to women of all age groups. I know it s Sweden, but his relationships are simply vapid, empty, and defy believability. He is such a passive, agreeable little ho. We never even know if he is attracted to the women who can t help but seduce him. Even an angry, anti-social, asperger suffering, vigilante, bi-sexual, who never even talks to anyone, starts seeing white picket fences when she is in Blomkvist s presence. Even though she has just suffered a violent, brutal beating and rape by a sadist that would have killed any other 90 pound, 4 11 woman, she is able to nonchalantly seduce the passive Blomkvist just days later. The author spends about one paragraph on Blomkvist searching his soul over ignoring his daughter for years on and wraps it up with the very profound sentence on about page 600: Blomkvist was a bad father. Oh well. The next sentence he is back to the cabin being a compliant little man toy. And the plot!!! Oh my. Defies silliness. From the get-go it is just assumed that only a dead body could have been sneaked off the island. And why consult with Harriet s former best friend/cousin, who happens to work for an airline and travels internationally (hence the pressed flowers)?--when you could solve a mystery by tracking down various angles of obscure photos from 36 years ago? And some people can live happily ever after, even after enduring the most egregious of violence as a child--and never bother to report the crimes even anonymously. ------------------end of spoiler----------------------------------------------------One-dimensional characters, silly detective work, very convenient clues and everything falling neatly in line from 36 years ago. The redeeming value of the book is only in the last few pages. But even that is just too, too contrived. I feel a little bad for dissing this, since the author is dead and can t defend himself, or maybe didn t get a chance to edit. If you want good character development, plot and mystery, read Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine or Margaret Atwood.

#Why has the world lost its collective mind over this dreck? (2010-09-02) So, I finally get around to reading this INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON. Where to begin? Hm. . . Well, first of all, it s really poorly written. The writing style is trite at best, often choppy, full of unenlightened cliches, red herrings and loose ends that never get tied. As far as the plot is concerned, the mystery is fairly predictable, and the plot twists utterly unoriginal, except to say some of them are just DISGUSTING for the sake of being disgusting. People make a big ado about how the female protagonist is such an original creation and a heroine of post-modern feminism, blah blah. No. Lisbeth Salander appears to be just one of Larsson s (many) ways to exploit and glorify rape and female brutalization. By the way, the book s title in the original Swedish is Men Who Hate Women. That s right, even the original title sucks. At some point, Lisbeth decided to sleep with the OTHER (utterly unimaginative) main character (who smells oddly of Larsson himself, and yet is apparently a walking aphrodisiac) only to first lament in the mirror the fact that she allegedly has no boobs. Seriously: a heroine for the ages??? Also, what s with all the product placement in this novel? Was Larsson getting kick-backs from Apple? I guess we ll never know now. . . Watch the Swedish film instead, which is much better than the book, seeing as it s free of Larsson s crappy writing and many of his pointless plot details (most of which involve everyone having sex with the Larsson stand-in anyways).

I don t see how helping others, especially those who are so in need of help is a political topic. I thought is was morally right. (Not that this book is preachy in any way). I feel this is the antidote to politics. Politics is ugly and only sees what is wrong with the world and this book shows you what is right in the world. One person can make a difference.

#Tiresome and Tedious!! Should Have Been a Magazine Article, Not a Book (2010-08-28) This is a very political story. If you agree with Greg Mortenson s views, then I suspect you ll probably be a fan of this book. If you don t, then you probably won t like it. But I don t feel qualified to debate the politics, so I ll keep my review focused on the main character (Mortenson) and the actual writing. This should have been a fascinating story, but the writing and editing of this book are absolutely atrocious. What this book needed was a good editor! The book is written in the third person, so it s not really a memoir. It s a third-person account written by co-author David Oliver Relin (a journalist who must have done most or all of the actual writing). It s obvious from the first chapter that Relin has no objectivity whatsoever about his main subject. Second, Relin must have kept a huge unabridged thesaurus by his side throughout the writing process, because it appears that he used every single adjective in the English language! Chapter after chapter is filled with minute details and descriptive words that don t add anything to the story. In fact, they muddy it to the point of confusion. And third. . . sure, it s good to admire the person you re writing a book about. But Relin s page after page after page of excessive fawning is painful and unbalanced. A nurse who couldn t afford an apartment and lived in his car? A man who neglected his own wife and young kids to build schools halfway around the world? Mortenson is clearly an idealist, but he also strikes me as being extremely naïve, and it s highly debatable whether he s worthy of all the saintly praise Relin heaps on him. This story would have made an intriguing Vanity Fair or New York Times Magazine-type article. But unfortunately, there s just not enough here for a 330-page book. I almost always finish every book I start, but it was utter torture to get halfway through this one. Then I remembered the speed reading course I took in high school, and I skimmed through the second half. I really wanted to feel touched by Mortenson s story. But in the end all I felt was relief--relief that I had finally made it through to the last chapter.

#New Mario Wii (2010-08-31) The new super Mario Wii is terrible. It would be a lot of fun, if we didn t have to go back to the first entry into the game every time Mario is killed. A person can repeat a difficult game many, many times. An idiot planned this game.

#One Big Missed Opportunity (2010-08-23) To note - I ve only played up to the 3rd World. If anything changes as I progress through the game, I ll update this review. But right now, I m just too bored with the game to continue on. So basically, this game is an updated mix-up of earlier Mario games. Here s a break-down:Super Mario Bros: The individual levels, some of the enemies, and the overall difficulty level are on-par with SMB. Many of the original enemies have returned with little change, such as the Hammer Bros. , Bullet Bill, Koopa Troopas, the Piranha Plant, and of course Goombas. Many of the levels mirror those of the original as well, with tight-jumps that require a good judge of distance and even the castle maze from the last level. Mario s death and death music are also from SMB. So is the Underworld Theme. Yoshi s Island: The collection of red coins and Dragon coins are both present, as are variations of the mini-games. Yoshi s ability to float, and the ability to jump-stomp are also here. A magikoopa from Yoshi s Island, probably Kamek, returns to aid the Koopalings in boss battles just like he did with the bosses in YI. Super Mario World: The map screen/overworld, some of the levels, and some of the enemies return from SMW. The Ghost Houses are here, too. The save feature, first introduced in SMW I believe, also returns, with an added quick-save feature. The quick-save feature doesn t actually work for me, but when I can save after each mini-fortress or boss, it doesn t really matter and is largely unneeded. Super Mario Bros. 3: The Koopalings, first introduced in SMB3, are updated and brought back as bosses of each region. Other aspects from SMB3 that are present are: the Koopa Airship, the matching card game, the Hammer Bros on the map screen, both the item and game toad houses, the way the map screen itself functions, power-up collection and use, Mario Suits, and probably many other things I can t recall right now. Why this isn t a 5 Star game . . . 1. Yoshi is way too scarce. He s only in a handful of levels, and he cannot (to my knowledge) be used outside of those levels. That s not okay when riding Yoshi is half the fun. Super Mario World had the perfect balance of Yoshi-use, and this game totally screwed that up. I took off an entire star for poor Yoshi management. 2. You have to actually drop Toad in order to go through a pipe. Why? What possible reason could there be for this? 3. The music, excluding a few updated tunes like SMB3 s Hammer Bros. Battle Theme, was uninspiring, bland, and just awful. And there wasn t enough variety. After the first handful of stages in the first region, I was beginning to wonder if there would ever be a change in music. 4. Variety of gameplay. So far, it s almost the exact same formula as SMB3 - stage, stage, stage, toad house, stage, overworld enemy, mini fortress, stage, toad house, stage, boss. That was fine 20 years ago on a system with limited resources, it s not fine today on a system that could have done a lot more if the creators wanted to go so retro. They went TOO retro, I think . . . and failed to add enough new and novel ideas that would have augmented the old formula AND showcased the Wii. Yes, the graphics are nice. But, they probably aren t anything the Gamecube could not have pulled off. Possibly even the N64, to be honest. And that s sad that they didn t take full advantage of the Wii. 5. Controls. The return to the original controls is great. But why not at least use the B button when it s RIGHT THERE!? One of my fingers even rests on the B button during gameplay, so why wasn t it utilized at all? I get the A button not being used - it s a little awkward to reach, but the B button? Yoshi could have thrown eggs with that button, or it could have been used to zoom in or out. Another missed opportunity. 6. It s not Super Mario World. Any game that tries so hard to recreate the fun of earlier games needs to be at least as good as Super Mario World, and then it can build on that. But this game just doesn t live up to SMW, or SMB3 for that matter. What made those games 5-star games was the fact that they both pushed the envelope, and implemented fresh ideas and new ways of doing things. And they both had plenty of variety throughout the game. New Super Mario Bros. Wii didn t do that. It simply relied on previous incarnations and really only added a few shakes of the controller. And that s okay . . . for a 3 star, [. . . ] game that s nothing more than an update on the classics. But to call it New ? No. Not even close. More like a Super Mario All-Stars Wii. Still, this is a quality game that a great deal of effort went into. So despite its failure to surpass previous installments, and despite it being geared toward younger children, it still deserves 4 stars.

#BEWARE!!! Ecoshopping sells junk! (2010-08-22) In April 2010 I purchased a new Wii controller from ECOSHOPPING via Amazon. com. It was hardly used at all and in July I noticed that it didn t work. I ve tried rechargeable and new alkaline batteries and it s just plain dead, no lights, nothing. With shipping, I think this controller was about $27, which was a pretty good deal at the time, but not for lasting only about 4 months of very little use. I recently contacted ECOSHOPPING who finally replied only to say that I should have contacted them within half a month of the purchase for them to help, otherwise they would do nothing. Of course, the controller was still working after half a month. Anyway, my advice to Amazon shoppers is to keep ECOSHOPPING in mind and ask yourself if you want to take the chance spending your hard-earned money on extremely poor quality, but cheap products. I know I won t. Remember, you usually get what you pay for.

#Best PC RPG of all time (2010-05-11) I just happened to see this 4 in 1 product offering for under $20, and I just have to say that if you love D&D or computer RPG games (or both!) then this is an absolute must have. The Baldur s Gate series, even at its original price, is hands down the best value for the dollar of any PC RPG - or video game of any kind - that I have ever experienced. This game is HUGE. You can play through the whole triology as the same character and if you do you re looking at around 200 hours of total game play (10 cents an hour!) The NPCs you will encounter are a joy to spend time with. Some make you want to slap them, some will make you laugh, some will fall in love with your character, but all will stick in your memory long after you ve stopped playing the game. To add to this, you will also get to cross swords with Jon Irenicus, one of the most sinister and multi-layered characters ever to cast a malign shadow over a video game world. Are the graphics dated? Absolutely. Upside, you can happily play this game on a machine that is 5 - 7 years old without any problems. Has there ever been a better PC RPG written? No. Not in my mind. #Does not work (2010-08-24) Cannot get the product to load. Gets to the fourth disk and it locks up on one of the scenery files and will not go past. If you ignore this scenery the graphics look like something from a Commadore 64 way back in the day and not like current sofware graphics should look. I sent an e-mail to the folks who shipped this to me asking if they had any complaints of corrupted disks with this game and never received a reply. Wont buy any more software on line this way. #fs2004 (2010-07-19) i got fs2004 for my birthday. i like fs2004 because it makes you feel like your really flying. . unlike fs98. this simulator is very realistic. it has a variety of aircraft like the Boeing 747,Cessna 172,and old aircraft like the Wright flier,Amelia Earhart s Vega,and the dc-3. the atc is very realistic compared to fs98. during ifr s and vfr s you can change your altitude and can cancel your flight plan unlike fs2002. the flying lessons are fun and easy to understand.

So much fun and educative, this FS 2004 runs great on my vaio laptop with the logitech attack 3 joystick that I also bought for it, which I highly reccomend it for this purposes. . I ve been using FS since 12 or 13 years ago. . I remember my brother teaching me some very helpful basics lessons about navigation and all that stuff since he is a private pilot. . This 2004 Fs has lots of improvements from the 98 FS . . its more of what I expected . . I which they had included the airbus 340 but its ok . . B777 and 747 are very challening. . You will have a lot of fun and a lot of learning from this software. . 5 stars for FS 2004, and great service from amazon too. .

#Awesome! (2010-03-25) I own FlightSimX an FlightSim 2004, and I beleive 2004 is a much better version than FlightSimX! But That s only because I need to upgrade my computer or get a faster one to run FlightSimX (my bad). The sim studdered like crazy when running FlightSimX. But having said that, FlightSim 2004 is a really stable platform. I maxed out every setting and the frame rate wasn t affected one bit. The only time It did studder is when I installed add-ons like Las Vegas. I had to dial down the settings. Other than that, it s an awesome sim to fly. Just wish sites like [. . . ] had as many add-ons for 2004 as they do for X!

#Flight Simulator 2004 (2010-02-21) I previously owned this game and played it for 4 years before it froze up a year ago and would not play anymore. I recently received a Civil Air Patrol game as a gift and in order to run that game I had to purchase the FS2004 again. My problem with FS2004 is that the game does not line you up with the airport runway when you are trying to land. The headings are off so I have to pause the game and check on the position of the plane in relation to the glide path to line the plane up with the runway. Also, at about 3PM in the northeast, when it is still daylight, if I fly out of northeast airports it is already dark on the game and I have a night flight. That happens even if I correct the time on the game before I fly. I think there should be more correct time of day in relation to the time on the game. If it is 4PM and the sun is out, then it should be daylight on the game, and not dark. Also, there should be a button on the game where the diagram of the entire airport shows up so you can see the runways and their numbers. If I contact a small airport to land and the game voice tells me to land at runway #36, how do I know where runway 36 is unless I fly over the airport and try to find the number myself?Also, when I get clearance from the tower to land and I am about 300 ft. from the runway, suddenly the tower tells me to go around because there is another plane on the runway. I ignore the command and land anyway. Too late tower!! Why does the game put another plane on the runway when I had clearance to land? If I am ready to take off the tower tell me to hold short because of an incoming plane. It does not put me on the runway. Otherwise I am satisfied with the game.

#Great for 6 year old (2010-07-30) Bought this for my 6 year old. He is starting grade 1 next month. Some parts of it are difficult for him but thats when I get involved and teach him. He can add and subtract so it helps him practice that. It teaches addition, subtraction, vocabulary, reading, counting money, recycling, planets etc. He LOVES it and I have to limit how much time he spends on it. A real great learning tool.

#Best Source for the Belts (2010-07-20) These belts are the weak spot in the Hoover mechanism, so you should lay in a supply because the machine is worthless if one snaps (which can happen easily if you get something tangled in the brush while vacuuming)and there is no replacement on hand. I d suggest buying in bulk. The price is right and the supplier responds quickly. I give the product four stars because the belts are inherently weak. (To be fair, if they were any more robust they would be impossible for normal people to install. ) But I give this source five stars plus.

#Mrs. (2010-07-07) This vacuum, though having a lot of suction, is pretty flimsy in construction. When the hose is used with the crevice tool, all the dirt, etc that is in the canister comes flying out from where the hose was connected for regular vacuuming. Within a week after buying this vacuum, there was a Recall Notice because of a faulty power cord winder. I had decided before I receive the Recall Notice that this was a substandard cord winder so I stopped using it. Now I just have a loose cord laying around. Nice. I have tried the phone number sent to me in order to receive the repair kit, but the phone number does not work. Having not been able to contact a live person (nor a recording) to remedy this situation, I will never buy a Hoover item again.

#It s your water!!! (2010-07-18) For all the people who say that their washers develop an odor--do any of them own a water softener? I don t have to use anything in my washer to keep it smelling fresh, however, I own a Kinetico water softener which takes the minerals and chlorine out of the water so you get water that is so soft you need less detergen to clean your clothes and the washer smells as fresh as it did when it was new. I used this product once as it came with my washer--I saw no difference!

#Affresh works, sorta (2010-07-14) My front load washer had become a smelly, moldy mess. I was spending about 20 minutes after each load spraying and wiping down the rubber seal around the door. There had to be a better way. I tried Affresh at the suggestion of an appliance store representative. So, I ve found that the washer smells better, but I m not completely convinced that the product is truly cleaning/stopping the mold. It may just be a deoderizer. But, having said that, it is a very good deoderizer. I used 3 tablets back to back at first, and now I just throw one in every 3 weeks or so. I still must absolutely keep the door propped open when the machine is not in use, but it smells better. I m going to keep watching for mold, but so far, so good.

It must come from the small air hole in the top. It drives my daughter crazy when she uses hers, but I don t mind it at all! It s fairly quiet, but it definitely chirps !! The 27-oz. is a good size and I don t have to keep refilling it often. Very happy with purchase.

#Hate these things. (2010-08-30) Ok, they get one star for being attractive. And one more for using safe materials. But they are horrible beyond that. I am shocked that anyone thinks they are any good. They let more air than water in through the nozzle, and they make a loud, bizarre whistling noise. And if you try to remove the white stopper to get better water flow they will leak water all over you. Yes, they do fit bicycle bottle holders, but if you buy the painted ones the paint will scrape off immediately when you take them in and out of the bottle cage (unless your cage is plastic - not sure about that). AND - the little nozzle WILL NOT STAY OPEN! If you try to drink it will slide shut when it is barely touched. If you are standing very, very still and not moving and concentrate very hard, you can kind of hold it open with your teeth or lips and try to suck the water that way. Then it will probably stay open. But of course, you are just going to get mostly air anyway, especially when the bottle is not completely full. Sending ours back.

It has held up remarkable well to considering I take it everywhere, certainly much better than other bottles I ve had or seen in the past. The sports caps I received with my bottles make drinking easy. (To other reviewers who say these make noises when drinking from them: these don t chirp if I hold it so the loop part is up. )Stainless steel bottle is durable. Cons:Cold liquids cause the bottle to perspire. Be prepared for a damp pant leg if you carry this using the sling. With the sports cap, if the bottle is tipped over, it leaks, even with the outer cap on. For anyone that cares, the two bottles are slightly magnetic. This helped with the pain in one foot but not the other. So I sucked it up and bought these. No more pain in my feet AT ALL! Have owned them for 6 months and wear them every day. My only complaint would be the mesh fabric in the toe area. If they would bring the leather part up a little bit over the toe, they d be less likely to bust through. Just bought my second pair because the toe was ripped. But hey, I got them for $50 less than what I payed at my local Shoe Station! I also received them in 4 days.

#Amazingly comfortable and sturdy! (2010-04-12) I have had these for quite some time and highly recommend them. They are extremely comfortable for running and are a very sturdy shoe - I have gotten so much use out of these and they are still holding strong.

#suprised... (2010-03-27) I have been wearing New Balance for years on the recommendation of my podiatrist. Started with the 990 or 991 and have upgraded every year as they new and improved the sneaker. I have always found them to be a long lasting, nice fitting (room in the toe area) with some arch support sneaker. THIS is the first time I have had to return a new balance due to size. I am a straight up 6 1/2 and could barely get my foot into this sneaker. I have never had this happened with a New Balance. Two of the things I love about them is they don t squish my toes and I have always been able to order online without trying them on first. Ultimatley I do recommend the sneaker however, if you are looking at this style, and can find it locally, try it on before ordering. Amazon usually has the best price but it stinks to have to return and then reorder especially if you have to pay postage each way. . . there goes the savings.

#Super soft, at least in the store (2010-03-15) I tried these shoes on along with a whole spat of running sneakers. While I d never fork over the $140 list price at my local store for a single pair of shoes, I must say that the heritage 993 is extremely soft and comfortable. The fabric or animal skin (not sure what it is) that lines the inside of the shoe is creamy to the touch, like suede. The price is the only thing that kept me from yanking the sneakers from the shelf and purchasing them on the spot. If you look hard enough you can find similarly comfortable shoes in the $50 - $70 range, some with the same thickness of the sole. I found a pair that had gel cushioning from the brand spelled OASIS that seemed to match the quality of these at a lesser price - not quite perfect, but close. Unfortunately I was not able to test the Heritage shoes during a run, but for the few hops I took to the mirror they minimized the impact like a dream. They will definitely remain on my wish list until they come down in price, or I save.
