Weight Watchers

DESCRIPTION
If you re a Weight Watcher, this collection of 500 recipes in a handy loose-leaf binder could put you in the fast lane on the road to success. This cookbook is designed for Weight Watchers 1•,2•,3 Success program: points are assigned to foods based on fat, fiber, and calories, and your daily point allowance is based on your current weight. So you can eat what you want, as long as you don t go over your allotted points. The better your food choices, the more you can eat before you run out of points. Recipes are varied and cover the whole gamut: sauces, breads, soups, meat, chicken, fish, and vegetarian entrees, pasta, vegetable, grain, and potato side dishes, and, of course, desserts. The recipes are more healthful but not drastically different from foods you and your family enjoy now. Many are familiar comfort foods, such as Pizza, Oven Fried Chicken, Beef Stew, Tuna Noodle Casserole, Chocolate Layer Cake, and Cheesecake. Internationally inspired favorites include Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), Orange-Flavored Fajitas, Moo Shu Chicken, Tandoori Haddock, and Senegalese Peanut Soup. The nutritional breakdown for each recipe is more complete than in most cookbooks, and includes calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, fiber, protein, calcium, and Weight Watchers points. --Joan Price
#Need to specify a serving size (2004-07-13) WW has great recipes but they ve done my pet peeve again! It is so annoying to look at, for instance, the soup you just made and be forced to either guess at 1/8 or measure the whole batch of soup and then extract an 1/8. Why not: Serving size 1 1/2 cup?
#Not what I was hoping for. (2004-04-21) No what I thought. I was hoping for more pictures and lower point recipes. Most meals called for several ingredients. Working full time and lack of cooking experience made this book difficult to fit into my schedule. Hoped more recipes would have me grilling in pam to cut out the unnecessary points in butter and oil.
#Great, with a few problems (2004-04-15) Like any cookbook, you re not going to love everything. There are some hits and misses here. Fortunately, so far, I ve experienced far more of the good than bad. For instance, I can t say enough about how great the Chicken Quesadillas, Tomato Basil Pizza, Beef Chili and Balsamic Veal Chops are. I will avoid like the plague the Chicken Hash and the Roast Beef and Arugula. What is really lacking from this cookbook, however, is the absence of portion sizes. Like other reviewers have pointed out, this is not a big deal if you are serving up a baked item. But for something like the Beef Chili, you are forced to divide up the meal upon completion just to see what one serving out of four looks like. This is extremely annoying. Aside from that, the recipes are very easy to make. (Note: when making a dish, trust your instincts. If it seems like too much spinach is being used, like in the Spinach Fettuccine, it probably is. Cut back. ) What I appreciate is the variety, which means you won t get bored and look to that bag of Fritos for comfort. Despite some shortcomings, I m still giving this four stars because when this book is on, it s on.
#Easy to Follow, Excellent Variety in the Recipes (2004-04-14) The WEIGHT WATCHERS NEW COMPLETE COOKBOOK (Spiral Edition 1998) is the first diet cookbook that I ever felt compelled to buy. I must say that, although I am not a Weight Watchers member, they sure do put out a very good cookbook, one that is easy to follow and even fun to use! I love the spiral binder design and tab sections, as it makes it really easy to thumb through to find the kind of recipe you re looking for. Whether it be appetizers, soups, salads, entrees or desserts, you are sure to find a wide variety of healthy alternatives. Not only that, but they actually taste good, and are even fun to make! What other diet book can you say that about?I credit this cookbook for two major things: helping to me to stem my earlier weight gain in 2002, and helping me to lose 40 pounds in 2003. Of course, exercise also helped a great deal. I definitely recommend this cookbook to anybody who wants to follow a healthier lifestyle (I won t even call it a ",diet",), but who---like me---doesn t see the sense in spending $70+ per week on half-hour group support meetings. As far as I m concerned, the food s the thing, and this cookbook will help you make better choices without feeling deprived.
#EXCELLENT COLLECTION OF TASTY DO-ABLE MEALS (2004-03-21) I love this cookbook. I have lots of them, and this is one of my very favorites. I made the WW Stuffed Turkey breast for Thanksgiving this past year. . . everyone loved it. And my family usually turns their noses up at anything lowfat or good for you. But that is what is so great about this book. . . you would never know some of these recipes are diet. . no sacrificing taste here.
